Meizu M8 starts shipping

meizu-m81 We have covered the Meizu M8 here and on a podcast but here is an article I came across on The Phonereport. The most-awaited ‘iPhone clone’ of 2008 has began shipping. The Meizu M8 is available at US$478 with 8GB of internal memory, and dual band connectivity.

The M8 features a 3.4? touchscreen display with 720×480 pixels of resolution, the size being slightly smaller than the iPhone, but incorporating a larger resolution. The phone weighs 118g only, and measures 108 x 59 x 12mm, smaller and lighter than the iPhone’s 133g mass and 115.5 x 62.1 x 12.3 mm size. It also possesses Wi-Fi and Bluetooth like the iPhone, but unlike Apple’s masterpiece, the M8 has MMS, a removable 1200mAh battery, and a 3.2 megapixel camera. It lacks GPS or 3G, and there is no version with 16GB of memory yet.

The iPhone’s CPU speed isn’t known, but it is expected to be 625MHz, lower than the M8’s 667MHz. The latter has 256MB of RAM, while it is unknown how much the iPhone has.

It is unlikely for the M8 to become a fierce competitor of the iPhone, simple due to its company’s size when compared to Apple. It will however have a strong market in China if it achieves the right amount of marketing.
