Mobile imaging experience redefined with Motorola and Kodak technology
LIBERTYVILLE, Ill. — Nov. 3, 2008 –Motorola (NYSE: MOT), a leader in wireless communications will bring the mobile imaging powerhouse, MOTOZINE™ ZN5, to North America today, available exclusively for T-Mobile USA customers. Created in collaboration with Kodak (NYSE: EK), the world’s foremost imaging innovator, MOTOZINE ZN5 combines a high-quality phone and camera experience to help users click together and share the memories they capture.
MOTOZINE ZN5 delivers a picture-perfect camera and mobile experience. ZN5 is the first mobile phone to combine Motorola’s ModeShift technology and KODAK Imaging Technology. Together, they redefine the quality, convenience and connectivity of mobile imaging devices. The dedicated, simple share key allows one-touch sharing with friends and family while on the go through access to: picture messaging, T-Mobile

MyAlbum, Kodak Gallery and compatible Bluetooth enabled printers.
“The arrival of the MOTOZINE ZN5 at T-Mobile provides a new opportunity for customers to instantly capture and share each special moment in their lives,” said Dennis Burke, vice president, Sales, Motorola Mobile Devices. “The MOTOZINE ZN5 simplifies mobile imaging while empowering users with the tools they traditionally rely on in a digital camera.”
“The MOTOZINE ZN5 is a terrific phone for T-Mobile customers who value instant connections with loved ones,” said Travis Warren, Director of Device Marketing at T-Mobile. “Who wants to lug around several tech devices during the holidays when
one – the ZN5 – will suffice, making it easier than ever to snap and share photos with family and friends.”

Built to Shoot
ZN5 puts image capture first with a high-resolution screen and one of the fastest click-to-click times available. To launch the camera, simply slide open the lens cover to transform the phone into an ultra-fast, natural-feeling 5 megapixel imaging device. Unlike most “camera phones” on the market, the ZN5 has the feel of a digital camera with the shutter button, flash and viewer in the standard placement consumers expect. Plus, with auto focus for sharp, vivid pictures, a Xenon flash, an included 1 GB memory card (with 4GB of optional external memory support) to store favorite images, optimized settings for low-light environments and red-eye reduction, there is no longer a need to carry two devices. ZN5 is both a phone and a digital camera.
Built-in KODAK Imaging Technology ensures that every picture taken with ZN5 looks its best. When KODAK Imaging Technology is combined with KODAK PERFECT TOUCH Technology, images become brighter and more vivid on the spot. Multiple capture modes, like multi-shot and panorama, which automatically stitches together continuous shots taken on the horizon line into a single, extended image, makes taking photos fun.

Built to Share
With one click, photos can be viewed right from the home screen; no menus, no searching. This multimedia device provides a fun, quick and easy way to share favorite photos with friends and family. Using high speed Wi-Fi or GSM networks, full resolution pictures can be wirelessly uploaded in one simple click to the KODAK Gallery (www.kodakgallery.com)¹. Consumers also have additional options for sharing, whether sending over MMS¹, transferring to a computer via USB, showing slideshows on a TV (TV output/AV cable included in box), or using Bluetooth wireless technology2. T-Mobile customers who purchase a ZN5 will receive 50 free prints from Kodak Gallery (www.kodakgallery.com).

Built to Talk
In phone mode, ZN5 features Motorola’s patented CrystalTalk™ technology to help callers hear and be heard, even in noisy environments. With dual compatibility for GSM and Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN), users can connect in more areas around the world3 and enjoy high-speed wireless connections to surf the Web1 via a full HTML browser. To complete the communications experience, ZN5 also supports SMS, MMS, IM and personal e-mail1.

Availability
MOTOZINE ZN5 is available today at select T-Mobile retail stores and online at www.t-mobile.com. For more information on the MOTOZINE ZN5, please visit www.store.motorola.com or www.t-mobile.com.

I have to openly admit that I’m not the world’s greatest fan of Motorola on the Mobile Phone front but reading through what this device can really do does kind of sway me a little.

At this stage we still don’t know if it will ever be available in the UK but at just $99 on a two-year contract I’m sure it well sell well out in the states before Christmas.

Press Release: T-Mobile G1 Hits the UK

Folks I feel like I have been neglecting you all when it comes to news and reviews on the G1 front. Let me start off by saying that the UK wait is finally over and there are some very lucky people out there just now playing happily with their brand spanking new T-Mobile G1 handset. I have pestered the life out of HTC and T-Mobile and hopefully we should have one of these next week to play with (fingers crossed). I know that what is seen below is a lot to take in but I think it’s a worthwhile post and would like to hear your comments and thoughts on the G1.

G1 in Black

London, 30 October: The T-Mobile G1 – the phone built for the Internet and the first to run on the innovative Android open source mobile software platform – went on sale in the UK today prompting a queue of gadget enthusiasts outside T-Mobile’s Central London store stores eager to get their hands on this year’s most anticipated mobile phone.
Queues began at 5:00 am at T-Mobile’s Oxford Street store which opened early to allow shoppers to get their hands on the T-Mobile G1.

Exclusive to T-Mobile, the G1 offers a completely new mobile internet experience with full touch screen plus QWERTY keyboard for easy online communication and high speed internet with popular Google services already on board. The T-Mobile G1 also offers access to innovative application downloads from the new Android Market, 50 of which are available now to download for free. These initial applications enable you to do everything from compare prices to mix a cocktail and even measure the earth’s movements.
Andy Burgess, a software programmer from Farringdon, London, was the first to emerge from T-Mobile’s Oxford Street store with a T-Mobile G1. He said: "Being the first person in the UK to own this mobile phone is amazing – I’m going to be popular at work! I’ve been waiting for this phone for months and I knew I had to be the first to own it."

Jim Hyde, CEO, T-Mobile UK said:  "With the richest web experience ever seen on a mobile and thanks to the Android Market, the unprecedented ability to make your mobile work just the way you want, the T-Mobile G1 is set to revolutionise the way we use our phones. And judging by early reports coming in from our stores today, people are enthusiastically embracing this revolution and signing up for the T-Mobile G1."

The T-Mobile G1 is available for free on T-Mobile Combi and Flext price plans from £40 a month, including unlimited fast mobile internet browsing powered by T-Mobile’s award-winning network.

The G1’s full QWERTY keyboard makes it simple to write exactly what you want to say and navigating is even easier using the touch screen and trackball.  There’s also one touch access to all your favourite Google applications including web search, Google Maps, Google Talk and Google Mail. So whether it’s email, instant messaging, social network updates or even calling and texting, the T-Mobile G1 is perfect for whatever form of communication you prefer.

With Google Maps, T-Mobile G1 users can instantly view maps, satellite imagery, find local businesses and get driving directions. And Google Maps synchs with the built-in compass – an industry first – to allow users to view locations and navigate 360 degrees by simply moving the phone with their hand.

The 50 applications available to download for free at Android Market include Wikitude, which displays local information from Wikipedia live on-screen when scanning your local surroundings using the phone’s camera. There are also a number of applications designed to help consumers make their money go further including ShopSavvy, which uses the G1’s camera to ‘scan’ product barcodes and then searches the web using the browser to find the best available prices. Other applications help users indulge their interests. SplashPlay teaches users how to play the guitar by streaming video over the web, whilst Cooking Capsules and Cocktail! comb the web to provide recipes and instructions based on the contents of your kitchen or drinks cabinet.

So much has happened since the release stateside of the G1 starting with the fact that an exploit had been found and then there was the ability to unlock the handset by IMEI. number making it open for use on any network.

SanDisk Sansa Clip review

Introduction

Matt recently sent me a SanDisk Sansa View which made such an impression on me that I asked for another SanDisk MP3 player to review. Matt got hold of his contacts over at SanDisk and got hold of a Sansa Clip for me.

clip_main
SanDisk Sansa Clip

This was great news but he then told me I had to do a review on it too which kind of scared me a little because I had only ever reviewed Phones before and admittedly I was a little worried about how this review would go.

The 10 Second Review

Device: SanDisk Sansa Clip
Cost: £39.00
Available from: SanDisk Store
Best of: Sound, Packaging, Price, Ease of Use, Ability to add music
Worst of: No separate power cable

What’s in the box?

  • Quick Start Guide
  • Warning Leaflet
  • Special offer card from audible.com
  • Earphones
  • MicroUSB Charge / Sync Cable
  • SanDisk Sansa Clip
  • Mini Installation CD

Specification

  • 4 GB internal memory (2 & 4 GB model available)
  • FM Radio
  • Built in microphone for recording
  • Four-line OLED screen
  • Easy-to-wear clip
  • Battery Life: Internal rechargeable battery lasts for up to 15 hours of continuous playback (Depends on settings and file types)
  • MP3, WMA, secure WMA and Audible file formats
  • 2.2 x 0.6 x 1.4 inches

General

The SanDisk Sansa Clip is the smallest in the Sansa range and is very lightweight.

Taking a look at the front of the Clip there is a very small OLED display but not so small that it can’t be read or seen. A HOME button, jog dial and select button can also be found here.

clip_angled_right
SanDisk Sansa Clip Powered On

On the left there’s a MicroUSB port and an ON/OFF/HOLD slider switch which moves to left or right.

clip_left
SanDisk Sansa Clip Left View

The right side has the volume rocker and the headphone jack socket.

clip_right
SanDisk Sansa Clip Right View

The bottom and top of the Clip are very empty except some printed text on the bottom telling you the model number and I think the part number.

clip_angled_left
SanDisk Sansa Clip Front View

The back of the clip again is very straightforward and has just the namesake plastic clip and the SanDisk name printed with the size of the model.

Highlights and Lowlights

+ Superb sound
+ Ample Memory Capacity for Size & Price
+ Light Weight
+ FM tuner (20 Presets)
+ Voice Recording
+ Loveable Design with Fantastic Colour Options
+ Format compatibility (MP3, DRM WMA, WMA, Audible)
+ USB 1.1 and 2.0 connectivity
+ Can be used as a USB drive / mass storage
+ Can sync music with drag & drop or via software

– Only way to charge is via Data Cable

Sound Quality

The sound quality of the Clip is surprisingly up there with the View. Comparing the same MP3 track and using the same headphones the sound given from the Clip is very much like the sound like that you come to expect with the View.

There are various EQ modes and sound level adjustments available in the menu too which will help get the sound perfectly suited to various audio devices.

Review

When I opened the box of the Clip I was seriously shocked at just how little it was. Not many things this small have a screen of any sort and the OLED display hides itself with a mirrored front on the silver version and when powered on stands out very clearly.

The first thing I wanted to do after getting it powered on was to stick some songs on it so I took out the Data / Charging cable stuck into my USB 2.0 port on my Windows XP ran laptop and immediately it changed into sync mode and started finding the drivers etc….

clip_angled_left
SanDisk Sansa Clip Angled View

Transferring the music was simple, drag and drop…. no iccy manufacturers software to load / run.

After getting the music across I then disconnected the device safely using the safely remove hardware function on XP and plugged in the earphones to start my review.

I was impressed with how easy the menu system was and also how many features it had.

The music quality was awesome without even tweaking the EQ settings which made life a lot easier as I plan in giving this to my 7 year old daughter.

CONCLUSION

Once again SanDisk have done impressed me beyond what I expected. If you are looking for something small, lightweight and affordable with an excellent battery life then this is just what you need. The other good thing is the fact that you wont be rejected by your loved ones for not having an iPod as it’s sill very stylish.

Defo worth the money and a device that I would fully recommend to others

Rumour – GT-C6620 Takes Shape & Colour

On Monday night we gave you FCC photos of this new and rumoured device from Samsung (courtesy of windowsmobileitalia) and now tonight (courtesy of TIM and GSM Arena) we give you the phone in all it’s colour and glory.

It seems now to have leaked onto the website of Italian carrier TIM and is rumoured to be only 11.9mm thick. With a full QWERTY keyboard, tri-band GSM support and UMTS with HSDPA support it is also rumoured to have a landscape QVGA display.

Samsung GT C6620

All that being said, the Windows Mobile 6.1 powered Samsung C6620 is still a lower to midrange phone which is why it has no GPS or Wi-Fi connectivity. It also sports only a 2 megapixel camera which is rather lame these days.

The Samsung C6620 is still not available, but when it starts selling, it will retail for 199 euro with 1GB microSD memory card on a pre-paid basis.

Rumour – GT-C6620 is the name of Samsung’s next Windows Mobile smartphone

According to the winowsmobileitaly team Samsung are about to release a brand new Windows Mobile based device.

SamsungGT-C6620_label
Image from FCC Site

As many of you may remember, a few days ago we were the first in the world to disclose the existence of a new Windows Mobile smartphone manufactured by Samsung. Unfortunately, we are not able to publish any pictures yet, but here are some new details about it that we have been told about by our confidential and exclusive source.

The new smartphone is named the Samsung GT-C6620 and, as the name clearly indicates, it will be the first smartphone to sport Samsung’s new coding for naming its products. Below you can read further information about this smartphone, once more published by us as world exclusive.

The Samsung GT-C6620 is a Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard based phone and therefore it lacks a touchscreen but nevertheless it sports a built-in QWERTY thumb keyboard, a similar form factor to the Samsung i600 Mail’n’Call although it is not to be a real follower of the successful SGH-i600, so that it wouldn’t be correct to dub it a new Samsung Black*ack.
Samsung’s new smartphone also sports a 2 Megapixel camera, a microSD expansion slot, Bluetooth connectivity (but it’s lacking Wi-Fi support) and a special user interface which is completely customized especially for the mobile operator which will be offering it and its Value Added Services.

Among the other remarkable specifications of the GT-C6620, which has just been approved by FCC – Federal Communications Commission, a two-tone casing (in white matched with another high color), confirming once more thatit was designed with the younger generation in mind (yet another remarkable milestone in the WinMo history), UMTS/HSDPA 3G/3.5G connectivity and full support for 3G video calling thanks to the in-built front camera.

According to our source the Samsung GT-C6620 will probably be launched in Italy before the end of 2008 as an exclusive by the new MVNO – Mobile Virtual Network Operator MTV Mobile (powered by TIM – Telecom Italia Mobile) at a price lower than € 200. Unfortunately official images of the C6620 are still lacking but below you can see the back casing’s profile, taken from the FCC documents.

Unfortunately the team were unable to break down the FCC document but with a little PDF knowledge I have been able to do this and show you it in it’s full glory.

Samsung C6620 Samsung C6620 2
Images from FCC Site broken down

Now all I need is for someone to read the lingo on the page and tell us all what it means.

Google Earth now on iPhone

Continuing in their quest for World Domination, Google have now made Google Earth icompatible with the iPhone and iPod Touch.

In the words of the girls over at shinyshiny.tv…..

Having Google Earth on your iPhone means that you’ll now be able to… Well, I guess you could… Nope. I’ve never really found a use for it apart from trying to find my house on my street, and that’s only amusing for so long.

If you’ve got an iPhone you can connect via 3G as well as WiFi, and there’s special gyroscopic functionality, such as the ability tilt to adjust your view.

iphone_google_earth
Apple App Store

So Google now seem to have their hands in virtually every O/S possible although I’m sure I will stand corrected on this comment.
