PS4 USA and Europe Release date officially announced

gaming-playstation-4-sony-first-full-look-at-hardware-e3-2013-e2013 is a huge year for gamers across the globe because it is the first time since 2005 that we get new console hardware! E3 2013 brought us the official unveiling of both the Xbox One and the PS4 and it’s the latter that we will focus on today because Microsoft STILL haven’t released official launch dates for their console.

With that in mind Sony yesterday at their Gamescom 2013 press conference announced that as of November 15th in the US and on the 29th November in the UK we will be able to get our hands on the long awaited ‘Next-Gen’ console! This is almost as bigger coup for Sony as the £100/$100 difference in price compared to its Microsoft counterpart, which should at first at least grab gamers attention more than the hugely expensive £429 for the Xbox One.

The official prices for the PS4 on its own are as follows: US=$399, UK=£349

I have spoken to my local GAME store representatives though and they say that yes you are still able to pre-order the PS4 but they are as of now unable to guarantee ‘Day One’ delivery of the console as demand has been so high, so if you want one as close to launch day as possible then i recommend pre ordering one right now.

Here’s a refresher on the main features of the PS4 for those of you still unsure about which console (if any) to plump up the cash for:

  • CPU: low power x86-64 AMD "Jaguar", 8 cores
  • GPU: 1.84 TFLOPS, AMD RadeonGraphics Core Next engine
  • Memory: GDDR5 8GB
  • Hard Disk Drive: Built -in
  • Optical Drive (Read only): BD 6xCAV, DVD 8xCAV
  • I/O: Super-Speed USB (USB 3.0), AUX
  • Communication: Ethernet, IEEE 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth® 2.1 (EDR)
  • AV output: HDMI, Analog-AV out, Digital Output (optical)

There is a lot to look forward to regards the PS4 with a whole host of amazing games that will launch alongside it on November 29th including, Assassins Creed 4 Black Flag, Battlefield 4, Call of Duty Ghosts, Watch Dogs, Killzone:Shadowfall, DriveClub and many more!

Just one last thing to add here.watch this space at the end of September because i will be at Eurogamer in London covering all of the amazing gaming tech that will be on offer so look out for lots of posts and photos on the site around then, i will be tweeting live from the event as well so drop me a follow at @veseinho89.

Samsung Galaxy Mega As the title of this post suggests Expansys UK have the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3, which for those of you who aren’t aware is Samsung’s answer to the ‘bigger than Note 2 but smaller than the Note 8 form factor’ Basically if you have huge hands then this is the phone/phablet for you! Otherwise it could basically be used a tablet, which in my opinion wouldn’t be a bad thing at all.

The device can be purchased in one of two ways, you can pay the amount in full as you would any other product online but the second option is what’s different with this deal, Expansys have recently added Finance packages to their deals and for this particular device it’s a pretty tasty prospect for anyone looking to buy this phone but don’t necessarily have the funds to do so immediately.

HTC Announces ‘Change’ Platform

Envelope HTC have today announced a new brand platform called ‘Change’ this new strategy is designed to move the company forward further than ever before with a special Two year partnership with Iron Man himself Robert Downey Jr (that’s cool in itself!) Certainly with this announcement it will bring about a new kind of rivalry between HTC’s biggest competitors because as most of you will know by reading on this site and others that HTC’s One products have severely outshone that of the Samsung Galaxy S4 on design and build quality but hasn’t so9ld nearly as many of their devices due to lack of a decent marketing strategy. Well today that will all change with ‘Change’ (sorry for the awful pun!) It remains to be seen if this new strategy will improve HTC’s fortunes but it’s a positive beginning, mainly because they have the best super hero ever marketing their products! Sorry geek moment there.

See the Press Release below:

HTC CHALLENGES STATUS QUO WITH NEW GLOBAL BRAND PLATFORM

‘Change’ marks bold new move by HTC in new brand position

Taipei, Taiwan – 12 August 2013 – HTC, a global leader in mobile innovation and design, today unveiled its most powerful marketing campaign to date. The Change brand platform is a long-term strategy that celebrates HTC’s disruptive impact on the mobile industry over its 17-year history. Ushering in an innovative new approach that will transform the industry, the campaign represents HTC’s largest-ever investment in marketing and will reach consumers through a broad spectrum of traditional and digital media outlets.

To mark the launch of the global platform, a new above-the-line campaign will be rolled out from August 2013. Featuring acclaimed actor and director, Robert Downey Jr., the first ad creative will screen on YouTube on 15th August, to be immediately followed by a series of cinema and TV executions.

Ben Ho, CMO of HTC comments, "HTC’s innovation, authenticity and boldness have made us the change-makers in the mobile industry and led us to launch what influencers regard as the best phone in the world, the HTC One. Our original and playful Change platform is different to anything else out there and aligns our brand with the same qualities our phones are already known for. With this campaign, we are affirming what HTC’s role is in the mobile market which is to define change and to lead the industry in developing the newest and most innovative technologies."

The face behind the Change

Recognised as one of the most popular faces on the big screen, Robert Downey Jr. has signed a two-year deal with HTC. In addition to starring in the ad, he has injected his own style, working closely with HTC’s global agency 171 Worldwide (WWP Group) to shape its creative direction, putting change at the core of HTC’s brand by offering a variety of unique interpretations of the HTC acronym.

Celebrating the change-makers

The brand platform will roll out in three phases with the initial advertising campaign highlighting HTC’s brand with a playful take on what it means to different people. The second phase will feature executions which highlight how HTC innovations-like BlinkFeed, Video Highlights and BoomSound-have changed the face of the mobile industry. The following ad spots will then focus on how HTC products empower individuals to drive change in their own lives.

Changing the media mix

Aligning with the preferences of HTC’s target audience, the ATL campaign will be heavily weighted to cinema, online and digital media. Experiential events in key markets, like the UK, US and Taiwan, will also bring the brand message to life for consumers, who will be able to experience the various creative interpretations of HTC for themselves. Extending the interpretation to consumers, a word randomiser app hosted on HTC.com and promoted via a range of social channels including Facebook, Google+ and Twitter, has also been developed to allow people to identify the most outlandish possible interpretations of HTC, building on the variety of permutations first introduced in the ATL campaign.

Blackberry Q10 Review

Blackberry Q10 ReviewBlackBerry are trying a new tactic in the smartphone wars with their new operating system, BlackBerry 10, we will talk a lot more in the review.

The first BlackBerry 10 device is the Z10 which is BlackBerry’s flagship device and the Q10 is the more ‘BlackBerry’ BlackBerry with a more conventional look. What I mean is that when you hear someone say ‘I’ve just got a new blackberry’ you expect to see a phone with a smaller screen and a full QWERTY keyboard.

So with that in mind how will this device cope with competing with the full touch devices? And not to mention the Z10 too!

To find out those answers and answers to any other questions then please read on. Not before you’ve watched the BlackBerry Q10 unboxing video from Matt of course.

Xbox at E3 2013

xbox-one-logo-wallpaperThis week starting 10th June is one of the, if not the ultimate week of gaming excitement that gamers across the globe get to enjoy. I’m talking of course about the yearly Electronic Entertainment Expo in LA and this is where we see the latest and greatest announcements from the industry leading companies in gaming.

This year was always going to be one of the best E3’sever simply because we were going to see the biggest console battle between two companies for 8 years ish, the battle is of course between Microsoft and Sony respectively. Both companies have announced their new next generation consoles, the Xbox One and PS4 and to be quite honest before the conferences the talk was all about how Microsoft could ‘redeem themselves’ after the shambles they created after their Xbox One reveal event a couple of weeks previous. To a point I think that Microsoft did redeem themselves by showing some incredible games running in real time on their new console, but the problem regarding the trading in of games and the ‘online check in’ still remains.

Fifa 14 Gameplay Trailer

fifa-14This will be my first sports related gaming post for the site and it just so happens that Fifa is a game type that i am very addicted to! So for me this trailer is the start of the yearly excitement all over again.

The trailer shows off EA’s tweaks to the gameplay, namely the player impact engine and the whole ‘Precision’ of the game. So things like precision shooting and passing and also the way that each player reacts to certain gameplay situations. It is overall just a small insight into Fifa 14 and here’s hoping that E3 in a few days will bring actual gameplay footage in real time so that us Football/Soccer fans can get really excited about the game!

Sony Xperia Z Review

Sony Xperia ZSony have been trying their best over the past months since buying the Ericsson half of the company to release smartphones that are capable of competing with the ‘big boys’ as it were. Their issue with that idea though has been timing, what I mean by this is the fact that last year their flagship device was the Xperia T, which they released a long time after HTC’s One X and even the Samsung Galaxy S3 and we all know how good they both were and still are!

So Sony have some ground to make up you could say, well their latest and greatest device is what I have here, the Xperia Z and it is an absolute beast! Both aesthetically and on the hardware side too so maybe 2013 will be the year that Sony can absolutely compete with their considerable competition?

To find out all of the answers that you seek please do read on, but not before watching the Sony Xperia Z unboxing video from Matt, unless you already have of course!
