Zappar showcases Accuray’s innovative technology through Mixed Reality

Zappar, the world leaders in augmented and mixed reality, has partnered with Accuray to help bring to life the company’s new Radixact™ Treatment Delivery System at the annual European Society for Radiotherapy & Oncology (ESTRO) meeting in Vienna, Austria. Renowned for its leading-edge medical solutions, our latest innovation enabled Accuray to demonstrate some highly advanced features of the Radixact System through Zappar’s new mixed reality technology.

Using Zappar’s technology, delegates who attended the meeting were taken on a journey ‘inside’ the physical machinery, bringing to life the internal components and offering a unique view of the product itself – all via ‘pointcodes’ which allowed a mobile device to track digital content to the physical device.

Designed especially for the ESTRO meeting, the inner workings showed potential customers how x-ray radiation, refined beamlines and fast imaging technology are used to deliver treatments to patients.  This offered an invaluable opportunity for the company to actively engage with customers and key decision makers. Birgit Fleurent, Chief Marketing Officer at Accuray commented, “We are working with Zappar to present an alternative digital channel which enables us to effectively demonstrate our products to a larger number of customers. As a company, we pride ourselves in providing innovative technology to the medical industry and our marketing solutions should be no different. We have achieved an overwhelmingly positive response to the mixed reality technology from this year’s attendees at ESTRO, which demonstrates just how valuable this type of innovation is for the industry.”

Max Dawes, Partnerships Director at Zappar, added, “Mixed reality can add real value to the medical industry especially in conveying the features and benefits of highly technical pieces of machinery to customers. We were excited to work closely with Accuray to make sure we delivered a practical and engaging solution that demonstrated the company’s innovative product in the best possible way.”

Philips launches S-line and V-line displays

243V7QDABX_ftl_rflxMMD, the leading technology company and brand license partner for Philips monitors, is extending its S7-line and V7-line. These lines bring great visuals to organisations and home-office users who seek displays that drive business efficiency at a good value. V7 is the entry point line with all essential features for productivity, while S7 also incorporates some premium features. S7’s complete line-up will consist of 2 variations in the size 21.5 inches and 4 variations in the size 23.8 inches. V7’s complete line-up provides an even larger spectrum to choose from, with 2 variations in 21.5; 3 in 23.8 and 4 in 27 inches. Both lines are equipped with technologies oriented toward wellbeing of the eyes during prolonged screen use.

Quality, performance and durability
Powerful and easy-to-use, the S7-line and V7-line displays offer the right mix of performance, essential features and affordability. They make screen time easier, more productive and budget-friendly for home-office users as well as for public and private-sector organisations ranging from call centres to schools and libraries, public and private offices.

Both display lines feature innovations that would not be out of place even on higher-end models. Even at first glance, the S7 displays, in particular, are built to impress, with a slimmer bezel and stand column that create a clean, minimalistic look as well as taking up far less room on the desktop. The latest models – in both S7 and V7 lines – are all frameless on three sides. As well as looking good, the seamless design is valuable for apps that need two displays to be placed side-by-side: the “joint” between the displays is barely perceptible, creating the impression of having one large display for better comparisons and productivity. With Full HD resolution and the wide viewing angle of IPS technology, the panels in both lines offer clear, crisp viewing, even when the screen is looked at almost from the side. The display positioning is adjustable for maximum comfort: the S7-line’s base enables the display to be tilted, swivelled and height-adjusted exactly to the right angle. The V-line displays all have a tilt option.

User-centric features to drive efficiency and promote well-being
The S7-line and V7-line displays are built to handle the rigours of intensive use, with just the right features to help users be as productive as they can for as long as they need, as Artem Khomenko, Product Manager Philips monitors Europe at MMD, points out: “These displays are designed with a host of standout features to make hours-long viewing more productive.”

All S7-line displays now feature the innovative SoftBlue LED technology as standard. Research has shown that blue light waves emitted by LED displays can potentially affect vision over time. SoftBlue is a technology built in the hardware of the monitor, which aims to counter this. Without compromising the colour or image, SoftBlue reduces the harmful blue light waves. V7-line displays feature a technology with similar effect – LowBlue light mode. LowBlue light mode is a software solution which reduces harmful LED blue light.

Other features oriented towards users’ eye comfort are EasyRead (S7 and V7-lines), which creates a paper-like reading experience for long documents, and SmartContrast (S7 and V7-lines), which auto-adjusts colours and backlight intensity to what is being displayed on the screen (the optimum settings for a spreadsheet, for example, are very different to those for video-viewing).

In line with the needs of business users, S7-line displays are equipped with additional capabilities. Built-in stereo speakers ensure a multimedia experience with great sound in tasks such as videoconferencing, and Flicker-Free technology regulates brightness and reduces flicker effects for more comfortable viewing.

F-Secure to Plug the Security Hole in Millions of Connected Homes

F-Secure_Sense_3534_2000pxSmart is the new Vulnerable

Here at TNW 2017 in Amsterdam, we will see the launch of the highly anticipated F-Secure SENSE.  Announced a few years ago F-secure has been steadily working on perfecting a product that will protect your home, family and smart devices from hackers.

How secure is your home?

Smartphones, Tablets, Televisions, Baby monitors all could potentially have a backdoor allowing hackers to steal private information. Thanks to SENSE it will act as a guardian protecting your home from any potential threats.

“F-secure SENSE is the combination of a smart security router, an advanced security app and industry-leading cloud protection. SENSE easily secures every connected thing in your home using on the device, now and in the future.”

Acting now and protecting your home and the people just makes SENSE. Do not wait to be a victim make sure you are #nothacked in the first place.

Shipping from June 2017 the F-secure SENSE costs 199 with 12 months subscription with a 9.90 subscription thereafter. A small price to pay for what could potentially be fatal.

Buckinghamshire, UK – 18th May 2017: F-Secure is delivering the one device that will secure the internet-connected things in consumers’ homes. F-Secure SENSE combines a secure Wi-Fi router with an advanced security app and industry-leading cloud protection to provide the missing piece that modern homes need to secure any device, computer or appliance that connects online.

By the end of 2017, consumers will be using 5.2 billion connected things, according to Gartner*. That number is set to more than double to 12.8 billion by 2020. As many of these devices gain access to our most intimate aspects of life, consumers feel worried and helpless as to how they should secure themselves against threats they read about almost daily. Unfortunately, they’re receiving little-to-no reassurance from the IoT-device manufacturers.

F-Secure chief research officer Mikko Hypponen fears that makers of devices for connected homes are repeating “the same mistakes we already fixed 20 years ago” in the PC market. Manufacturers are failing to prioritise security, even as the adoption of internet-connected devices and vulnerabilities in those devices grow exponentially. During his countless talks about security around the world, Mikko often warns that “The Internet of Things is a clear and present danger to the internet” and he tries to make consumers aware of Hypponen’s Law, which states: “Whenever an appliance is described as being ‘smart’, it’s vulnerable.”

Despite the risks, connected devices offer unlimited potential to make homes more comfortable, enjoyable and sustainable. That’s why SENSE offers a dynamic blanket of protection for those devices by meshing three security technologies:

  • The SENSE router replaces all internet security products in a connected home to protect everything from desktop computers to phones to smart TVs to baby monitors against viruses and hackers
  • The SENSE advanced security app manages the SENSE network, offering additional security features that provide protection on the go**
  • The SENSE cloud utilises cutting edge artificial intelligence to sense the traffic of connected home devices and to protect against IoT threats and hacking

“It’s an inspiring time for F-Secure and the IoT security industry,” says Perttu Tynkkynen, F-Secure vice-president of Direct Consumer Sales & Marketing. “There are new developments on nearly a daily basis. Within a short time of launching, we expect SENSE to receive regular updates with new security features to keep consumers protected at all times against evolving threats.”
F-Secure will initially deliver SENSE directly to customers and then plans to roll the product out to the 200 broadband and mobile operators already offering the company’s security products around the world.

“We are extremely pleased to launch F-Secure SENSE to our consumer customers and operator partners,“ says executive vice president Kristian Järnefelt. “Many of our operator partners are already looking into securing the connected home and F-Secure is uniquely positioned to help them execute this strategy. By combining award-winning endpoint protection, network-based security and a cyber security ready router hardened against hacking, a capability that many traditional Wi-Fi routers lack, SENSE provides one seamless solution that delivers the security most connected homes are missing, as the IoT explosion is happening.”

The release of F-Secure SENSE was previously announced and does not have an impact on F-Secure’s financial outlook for 2017.

Pricing and availability

F-Secure SENSE is available at F-Secure.com and includes the hardware and software, as well as a 12-month subscription to the service for 199 EUR/USD. Monthly subscriptions can be renewed for 9.90 EUR/USD per month.

SENSE is currently available for order in these countries:  Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, United Kingdom, United States. More countries will be added in the future. Device shipments and software will be available in June 2017. Learn more at www.f-secure.com/sense.

Hi Gareth,

If you’d like to spruce up your Google Home or just have it better match your home decor, not only are the different coloured bases available from Google, but Slickwraps have some great ‘skins’ available:

https://www.slickwraps.com/devices/cool-stuff/google/google-home.html

I got the Natural Series Bamboo one and it looks fantastic. They dispatched from the US and it was with me in the UK within a week.

Re:Flex 5000

For the price would have been nice if it had two adapters mounted on it for two people to use it after kids are in bed. Guess you could use a splitter, might want to try it if you have it.

Some things I would like you to cover in your review.

– Range claims to be 30m, how accurate is that in real world environments and if your listening to music, how well does it work if you walk around or even go into another room.

– Looked like there was a battery cover, is the battery removable (replaceable) or is another expensive disposable.

– How accurate is the advertised 12 hours of battery life in real world usage

Joe

The Nokia 6 looks like it will be a fantastic phone for repetitively little money, I love the fact that it is made from a single piece of aluminium rather than plastic. I also love the fact that it comes with stock Android. It could be interesting competition for the likes of the Moto G5 & G5 Plus.

The SoundPEATS Q16 Unboxing

6106Mgbv59L._SX425_Here we take a look at a truely wireless headphone arrangement, the SoundPEATS Q16. These are Dual Wireless Earbuds with separate batteries, Bluetooth 4.2 and a dash of Sweatproofing for the Sporty types out there. The In-Ear Headset also features a Microphone and a Secure Fit to keep them in place during whilst active.

SoundPEATS Audio is a relatively new company (2010) that has a wide range of music listening products for in-ear, on-ear, sport and business use. Their latest product is the Q16 True Wireless Bluetooth 4.2 Earphone. It’s a pretty nice and compact piece of gear because it’s simply two parts (one for each ear). It really is “true wireless” because there’s no connecting wire between your earphones or the streaming device.

The ideal application for the Q16 Bluetooth Earphone is sport or daily workouts. It really works well for anyone who is constantly on the go and doesn’t want the annoyance of wires. They’re quite simple to put on (just slips over and in the ear) and connecting them to your Bluetooth device is easy. Once you get them adjusted in the ears and connected the noise isolation is great but without blocking all your ambient noise. This leaves you to enjoy your music or talk on the phone while still remaining aware of your surroundings. It’s all hands-free.

The Q16 True Wireless Bluetooth 4.2 Earphone by SoundPEATS charges easily with a split USB cable (included) and has a battery life of about 6 hours.

The IMO S2 promises to provide users with a full 4G smartphone experience at a fraction of the cost of those offered by other brands. Finally, the IMO Dash represents the company’s first foray into the feature phones market. The 12-button device will include 3G, a 2MP camera and a battery standby time of over 8 days. Sim free pricing is expected to be below £30.
