Leaking the Huawei Nexus 6

QQ_20150824155811Some images have appeared online today of what could possibly be the Huawei Nexus 6 refresh. A few days ahead of the Huawei launch of their new flagship phone these images may be something other than the new Nexus. The claims are coming from a Google+ user, Tiessen Fu insisting the device was given to him by a friend working on the Nexus successor.

For a design this radically different to the current Nexus 6 Google may be making some insane marketing choices. However, there is a lot to be said about breaking the mould and going with something different. It would be a hard sell to ask a company to keep some of the design influences from the previous model built by an entirely different manufacturer. Certainly companies do this however with a Nexus there is no need to imitate as the name and brand are already established.

I hope this is the new Nexus 6, whilst many are suggesting that it is a ugly ducking I find it refreshing to see something a little different.

ASUS Zenfone 2 crams in 256GB storage

enhanced-15664-1440341113-8There was never a storage war. Manufacturers seemed to be content to bring 8, 16 and 32gb variants with only the hardware daring to go further. Why both we the customer can go out a purchase a an SD card to expand as little to no expense for the manufacturer. Few grumbled with only those looking a cheap phone with 4 or 8gbs becoming infuriated. Recently, we have seen manufacturers becoming creative when it comes to including the SD card in a combined storage solution and others hoping that the cloud to solve the storage starved.

On of the less popular flagships out there, the Zenfone 2, is about to be produced in a Deluxe Special Edition versions with specs identical to the high-end version of the original Zenfone 2, 4GB of RAM and a faster Atom Z3580 processor, with the a mch greater storage capacity. A 256GB version will be available in two colors, one with a diamond-pattern back and another with black and grey diagonal stripes. Both get orange trim around the front screen and navigation panel and around the volume buttons on the rear. The device also includes a mircoSD card slot that supports up to 128gb cards.

The diamond rear is very reminiscent of the old HTC Touch Diamond from years gone by, a few with many merits however I seem to remember the back design not being one as the phone was prone to rocking when used on a flat surface. At any rate this is an exciting addition to the Zenfone line and I hope to have a look at this in the near future.

here_is_a_short_glimpse_at_a_blackberry_venice_promo_video-news-13619.phpTop leaker Evan Blass, @evleaks, has posted a beautiful video of one of the most exciting announcements we are hoping for in Berlin in two weeks at IFA. The high-end Blackberry smartphone that will run Android, might debut as early as next month during IFA with sliding QWERTY keyboard. The pictures were called out as fakes almost immediately due to differing keyboard layouts however as there is nothing concrete right now we are going with exciting rumour and we hope what we see here is what we are getting. This could the be most exciting combination phone this year and a relaunch of the physical keyboard.

The new Samsung Gear S2

1440001479-bce21be9aaca4607e2e05b5159e1140b-1038x576The Samsung Galaxy Gear S2 will be unveiled during a major press conference on the 3rd of September at IFA in Berlin. A video has popped up showing a rather sexy device that bears little resemblance to it’s predecessor. The new interface really looks to be the middle ground between Apple’s Watch and Android Wear. More than likely running Tizen the Gear S2 should really be the most mature smartwatch out there as no other company has tested the water more than Samsung in the last couple of years.

We hope to be reporting live from the Press conference and will post a little hands on  experience with the wearable in a fortnight.

Ever had an affair on Ashley Madison?

mzl.bjttmrvoSome months back we heard that Ashley Madison has been hacked and nearly 10-gigabytes of stolen data had been stolen. The dating site for cheaters admitted member email addresses, credit card transactions, and even profiles had been compromised.

The data has now been released, as the demands of the hackers were not met, and can be found on the dark web. Those who have downloaded are reporting there is a lot of interesting material. One analysis of the data stolen found it contains almost 15,000 military or government email addresses. The hackers demand to take down the site fell on deaf ears and there is now a real possibility that some families could be destroyed.

Calling themselves the Impact Team, the hackers said:

We have explained the fraud, deceit, and stupidity of ALM and their members. Now everyone gets to see their data … Keep in mind the site is a scam with thousands of fake female profiles. See ashley madison fake profile lawsuit; 90-95% of actual users are male. Chances are your man signed up on the world’s biggest affair site, but never had one. He just tried to. If that distinction matters. …

So to make sure that you are playing safe and you will find someone to have fun make sure that you use reliable sex sites.

Too bad for those men, they’re cheating dirtbags and deserve no such discretion. Too bad for ALM, you promised secrecy but didn’t deliver.…

Controversial outcome, they carried it through, true to their word and elements of people’s privacy will be exposed. Some might say for the greater good. Here’s a screenshot of the full statement included with the release:

CaptureRestarting you router is a given these days, with the amount of conflicts an traffic the router is contractually having to deal with it is no wonder it just gives up after a while. It will then take the flack from the owner as they stomp across and hit a button to get things going again. It’s happened to us all and those Router Gremlins are a real pain in the backside. Will there be a 5 inch iPhone 6C?

iphone-6s-5-inchA refresh is on the way for the iPhone and as usual there js little in the way of official details. Expected are two variants with 4.7 and 5.5-inch displays. However there are reports of an iPhone 6c being in the works, and more recently a suggested rumour emerged that the 6c will be built by Foxconn with a 4-inch display.

However, a more recent rumours of a 5-inch model being manufactured by Foxconn are making the rounds. According to the Foxconn insider the 5-incher will apparently rock an 8 MP camera, a dual-LED flash and powered by an A9 processor. A sketch depicting the alleged 5-inch iPhone 6s model has popped up from the Foxconn insider who was not able to provide a photo of the device due to Apples security measures.

Might the UK have an Electric Highway?

55d2850e04d0aElectric Motorways that allow electric cars to charge whilst on the move are to be tested in the UK this year. The 18-month scheme, announced by Highways England, will “test how the technology would work safely and effectively on the country’s motorways and major A roads. The concept of wirelessly charging technology under the road is used to power buses in Korea. However, these tests in Britain are said to be the first of their kind.

The potential to recharge low emission vehicles on the move offers exciting possibilities. The government is already committing £500 million over the next five years to keep Britain at the forefront of this technology, which will help boost jobs and growth in the sector. As this study shows, we continue to explore options on how to improve journeys and make low-emission vehicles accessible to families and businesses.

Transport Minister Andrew Jones

If successful, the new roads will mean that electric cars could be driven for long distances without the need to stop and charge their batteries. Although, it’ll require Highways England to install plug-in charging points every 20 miles on the motorway network, something which they’ve committed to doing. The days of autonomous electric cars could be here sooner rather than later.
