Vodafone Mobile Wi-Fi R205 unboxing video

Voda MiFi

These mobile Wi-Fi units have been around for a while and we’ve looked at offerings from O2 and Three in the past. Sometimes referred to as Mi-Fi devices these units have a SIM card inside and, in Vodafone’s words ‘Makes Wi-Fi from Mobile’.

This new R205 model from Vodafone (Made but Huawei) is the same size and shape as previous models but has been updated so that the maximum speeds it can now achieve are 21Mbps down and 5.54Mbps up. A few firmware changes are also apparent and there’s a new usage counter that will help save you from going over your contract limits.

The one we have here in the video is on PAYG and can be purchased from Vodafone for just £65 when purchased at the same time as a £10 top-up.

Check out the brief video below while we crack on with the review.

HTC One V unboxing video

HTC One V

The smallest of HTC’s One Series is the V. With a 3.7 inch screen you could say it is dwarfed by its big brothers the One X and One S. Being smaller it may actually be a popular choice for many consumers. Clearly with a cheaper price tag this also may be attractive.

The specs of the HTC One V are a long way off that of the flagship One X. It packs a 1GHz processor, 5 megapixel camera and 720p HD video recording. With only 4GB of internal storage you will glad to know that the One V has MicroSD support up to 32GB.

At first glance you may think the One V looks familiar. That may be due to its ‘chin’ that it has inherited from the HTC Hero and Legend of years past. I’m quite a fan of the chin so I am personally glad to see it back.

In the following video you can see us unbox the One V and have a quick look around the device. Please ignore that part where I say it takes a micro-sim. I presumed that was the case as the X and S take one. I was wrong!

Pebble E-Paper Watch concept attracts two million dollars of interest

imageYou may or may not have heard of Kickstarter; for those who haven’t, it’s a website where entrepreneurs can pitch their ideas on the internet, looking for funding to take those ideas into commercial production. Many successful projects have turned into worldwide hits such as the Lunatik iPod nano watch case, but the Pebble watch threatens to send even that into the background, as it is currently the highest funded project ever by over half a million dollars. Despite setting out for a target of $100,000, they surpassed that in well under 48 hours and are now sitting at a cool two million, still with 35 days to go.

The Pebble watch was born out of Palo Alto, which carries on from their previous product, the inPulse, and is similar to the MOTOACTV or Sony Smart Watch. Of course, the Pebble does the expected smartwatch things – it connects to your iPhone or Android smartphone via Bluetooth 2.1, alerting you via the vibrating motor to new texts, email, calls etc.

The Pebble promises two key differences however which drastically improves the practicality of using a smartwatch on a daily basis. The first is the E-Ink display – not only is it very readable in sunlight, it is also super power efficient, allowing a claimed 7+ days of battery life. The second is the open nature of the software – a free SDK allows anyone to develop and distribute their own watch faces and apps for the Pebble such as everything from a simple stopwatch to a GPS powered Golf Rangefinder.

This all sounds mighty exciting to me, and you can join myself and the other 14,383 (and counting) backers and their $2,000,053 (and counting) by pledging cash here in return for a black, white, or red Pebble watch (or a hundred!) due for delivery in September.

Motorola Launches MOTOLUXE in White at Tesco in the UK

White Motoluxe

Do white Smartphone’s float your boat? If so you may want to take a look at the White Motorola MOTOLUXE that you can now pick up from Tesco Mobile for just £20 per month.

When it comes to panache, this Android 2.3 powered smartphone sets the bar high. With a 4-inch touchscreen that’s perfect for writing emails, surfing the Web and watching movies, you’ll always be connected, clued-up and entertained – whether at work, hanging out with friends or out on the town.

For photo buffs, an 8-megapixel autofocus camera with flash lets you shoot like a pro. You can even instantly share the pics with friends and family using the phone’s pre-loaded social networking apps.

But there is a reason this is called a smartphone! Incorporating Motorola’s MotoSwitch user interface, the MOTOLUXE learns who you talk to and which apps you use the most, and puts all that information front and center.

The Social Graph feature gives you easy and fast access to the people who really matter. It learns who’s most important to you and uses that information to populate the home screen. The more frequently you communicate with someone, the bigger their icon becomes. The Activity Graph focuses on your app habits; automatically changing to reflect the apps you use the most to provide customised menus.

BlackBerry of the future?

TK_Victory

We have seen a few BlackBerry 10 concept designs but none until now with a hardware keyboard. This concept designed by DigitalHomeBoy is possibly the dream BlackBerry for many, including myself.

It is pretty much certain that the first QNX powered BlackBerry 10 device we will see will be touch screen only. This should be confirmed in the first week of May at BlackBerry Jam which is the developer conference taking place at BlackBerry World in Orlando. However, will Team BlackBerry be happy to ditch their beloved hardware keyboards for a touch screen slab? I’m not convinced so RIM had better take a good look at this concept and make it happen, or as close as they can anyway.

You can see more info on the concept device below. Would you consider a move to BlackBerry if you could have a smartphone like this? Please let us know.

BlackBerry PlayBook Mini Keyboard Review

BlackBerry PlayBook Mini Keyboard

The Mini Keyboard for the BlackBerry PlayBook is very much a luxury accessory and being pretty expensive maybe one that most PlayBook users wont pick up. It does however have some benefits that many users will love and come to cherish.

Being such a huge BlackBerry fan as I am, and also a PlayBook user, I was obviously pretty excited to get my hands on the Mini Keyboard. The question I initially was asking myself though was can I justify spending about £80 on an accessory when the on-screen keyboard on the BlackBerry PlayBook is wonderful to type on.

Only one way to find out and that’s to read on.
