Good news – Google releases Chrome for Android, Bad news – ICS 4.0 only

Chrome

Google labs have been busy and have released a beta version of chrome for Android, that’s the good news, the bad news is that it’s only available for handsets running ICS/4.0 software and at the time or writing that’s limited to you lucky people with a Galaxy Nexus.

The first version is (apparently) “just like” the desktop version, browsing is a great user experience and runs very quickly, the latter being more to do with connection speed I would guess.

Another great feature is that anyone using Chrome Sync will also get their bookmarks synced on the android version too, how cool is that?

Standby if you have a high spec android running the latest version as updates are imminent, especially those handsets with fast processors. HTC have put a list of handsets up on their Facebook page that will receive ICS in Q1. Others will surely follow soon.

Three Web Cube – Unboxing Video

Three Web Cube

The Web Cube’s Wi-Fi signal is powered by 3G so it comes ready-to-go with a mobile broadband SIM card. It’s really easy to set up – just plug it in, turn it on and connect using the name and password supplied in the box. You don’t need a phone line to get going, as long as it’s plugged into the mains and your SIM is inserted, our network will do the rest.

The Web Cube is HSPA+ enabled to the 21.1Mbps technical standard, to deliver typical download speeds of 2-5Mbps, comparable to those of entry-level fixed-line broadband solutions, with the potential to reach a maximum download speed in excess of 10Mbps. Up to five Wi-Fi enabled devices can be connected at any one time, including smartphones, laptops and tablets, and it has a range of up to 30 metres.

  • Fast, secure Wi-Fi broadband at home
  • No phone line needed
  • Plug in and get online instantly
  • HSPA+ technology for faster browsing
  • Connect up to five devices at any time

The Web Cube is currently being tested out in a few key cities across the UK so you can’t actually buy one yet, but I’m sure it wont be long.

Would I recommend it? Too flaming right I would!

BlackBerry App Success

BB Logo

At DevCon Europe, sessions have showcased how developers are already benefiting from BlackBerry® App World. Two billion apps have been downloaded to date and the momentum continues with 6 million downloads per day. In addition to serving an installed base of more than 75 million devices, the BlackBerry platform is also recognised as one of the most profitable for developers:

· BlackBerry users download more paid apps on average than Android users do (Yankee  Group)

· BlackBerry apps generate 40% more revenue than Android apps (Vision Mobile)

· 13% of BlackBerry developers made $100,000+ from BlackBerry App World apps, considerably more than Android or Apple developers (Evans Data Corp)

To the people that keep saying RIM are finished I ask you to think again. The RIMPIRE STIKES BACK!

T-Mobile UK accessory website lists unannounced BlackBerry Curve 9320!

9320 spec

We mentioned this device just a week or so ago however it seems that a crackberry.com reader spotted an accessory page for the BlackBerry Curve 9320 on T-Mobiles website. The page has since been removed but as I said last week this is looking good for a low cost BlackBerry Curve to keep the youngsters happy.

Clearly RIM has not announced this future Curve however it would appear that we are more now more likely to see it here in the UK.

This makes me happy too!

You can see the accessory screen shot below:

Apps Crashing? Apparently you’re not alone

Crit

According to app data reporter/monitor Crittercism iOS crashes more apps than Android. They carried out a study in November and the first two weeks of December 2011 recording over 200 million app launches and recorded the crash data.
Now whilst the overwhelming majority where iOS launches the percentage of crashes per app were higher for iOS than Android.

One important thing to note is that the data shows different versions of both software’s and the one common thing they share is that it would appear newer version suffer more crashes in the first few weeks of launch, this would seem to point that developers are slower to update apps to work effectively with new software versions. Interesting though as they also pointed out not only could some be compatibility but some are hardware related but also dropped connections and Wi-Fi issues.

They do expect a similar pattern to occur in the first few months of Ice Cream Sandwich becoming more widespread just as the crash reports looked at iOS 5.0 and 5.1.

Do you suffer from app crashes on a regular basis?
