Sky Sports Football Score Centre app for BlackBerry hits one million downloads

The Sky Sports Football Score Centre app for BlackBerry smartphones, which has a 5/5 star rating, has proved a hit with football fans across the country. The app allows fans to track their team’s performance, and any number of other teams wherever they are. Passing the million download milestone was aided by a BlackBerry/Sky Media online awareness campaign where the BlackBerry app supported the online version of the Football Score Centre on skysports.com. The Score Centre is visited by circa 500,000 users a day over a weekend.

The application is an extension of the successful multi-platform Sky Sports Football Score Centre and configured specifically for Blackberry devices.  It can add fixtures direct to the user’s BlackBerry calendar and, for when fans are not able to follow the action live, the app pushes the latest score and results direct to the users inbox in real time, as well as providing a live commentary feed as the action happens, keeping fans up-to-date with their team whilst on the go.

“Football is all about community and tapping into people’s passions. We see real value in facilitating this for our customers inside the BlackBerry application. It creates more opportunities for us to offer value to our customers,” says David Gibbs, Director of Mobile Services & Applications, BSkyB.
“The Sky Sports app is a great example of how brands can offer more value to their customers and we’re pleased to see it doing so well,” said Stephen Bates, UK MD for Research in Motion. “With over three million downloads every day from BlackBerry App World it’s clear there’s a huge demand for compelling experiences on BlackBerry smartphones that’s only going to keep growing.”

With in-app advertising opportunities, the Sky Sports Football Score Centre also allows brands to talk a dedicated football audience across multiple phone formats.

ZiiLab’s Jaguar tablet look good on paper

ziilabstabsss-550x388The Computex tradeshow is about to start in Taipei and Ziilabs has put together a couple of Android based tablets they’re calling Jaguars. This family of Honeycomb tablets is built specifically to showcase their new ZMS-20 and ZMS-40 StemCell processors and they’re hoping manufacturers will take notice.

The tablets will come in 2 flavours, a 7-inch (1024×600) and 10.1-inch (1280×800) displays with both featuring front and rear facing 5MP cameras. But the real bread and butter is in Ziilabs’ StemCell processors. Both are based off of  the ARM Cortex A-9 platform and come in a dual-core (ZMS-20) and quad-core (ZMS-40) flavors. Would be interesting to see these tablets running some high-end benchmarks.
