TCPJ app for iPhone – review – The Cellphone Junkie Podcast as an app

TCPJ stands for The Cellphone Junkie Podcast and it is the number one cellphone podcast in iTunes. Last week an app has been released with which you can experience this podcast through a separate app, instead of using iTunes and going to websites for show notes etc. Author of the podcast – Mickey – is getting 50% from sales of this app, so we decided to support him by buying and reviewing it here.

Acer Liquid A1 Announced, First Snapdragon Android

P1050735-copy-580x362

That Acer Android smartphone we were promised earlier this year? It’s here and we’ve just gone hands-on with it: read on for first photos and impressions.

We’re live at the Acer press conference in London this morning, and on show is a nameless Acer Android smartphone. It’s yet to be detailed at the prezzer, but we do know the Acer Android smartphone packs a Snapdragon processor and WVGA screen, plus a 5MP camera. From our quick play, we’re not won over by the massive bezel or the lack of auto-correct for typing, but it’s a polished looking effort nonetheless.

UPDATE: The Acer Android smartphone is the A1, and it comes with Android version 1.6 – AKA Donut. Acer’s talking about it right now at its London prezzer, so more details to come.

UPDATE 2: Acer’s dancing to two different tunes here. Despite Acer’s top execs calling it the A1 on stage, it’s now been launched as the Acer Liquid on Acer’s UK website.

Many pics to follow.

Motorola Dext (Cliq) unboxing video

It has been a long, long time since I used a Motorola handset so I was pleased when they announced the Motorola Dext recently and even more intrigued to learn that it would be a Google Android device.  Originally announced in the US as the Motorola Cliq for some reason it’s called the Dext in the UK.

The Motorola Dext (Cliq)

The Motorola Dext is a decent looking handset with a sliding QWERTY keyboard. It’s good to see another Android powered device with a QWERTY as the G1 is becoming a little dated now. The Dext looks a little like some LG handsets that you can find on the market too with its three button arrangement below the screen.

It’s good to see more Android handsets hitting the market. We’ll be reviewing the Dext over the next week or so and will have the review online for you soon. Don’t foget to head over to the Dext forum post if you have any questions about the Dext. Until then have a look at the unboxing video below for a quick tour of the handset and a little look at the OS.

N900: First Look

Ewan from Mobile Industry Review received the N900 and 10 minutes later, had the video camera out recording his first experiences. This means that you’re getting completely unfiltered reaction. Although he had seen the device before at Nokia World, he didn’t manage to play with it for any length of time — so what you’ll see in these videos is him experiencing is the out of the box experience, and even doing it one handed while filming couldn’t stop Maemo impressing Ewan.
