O2 iPhone exclusivity, is it coming to an end?

image So far Apple has had exclusive agreements with normally one major Carrier in every country that it is available in, just recently we have heard numerous rumblings that the UK exclusive deal with O2 is coming to an end and now we are actually starting to see other UK networks starting to mention the iPhone in strange ways. Earlier this week we saw a webpage from Orange with internet settings for your iPhone, a little strange considering that the settings were UK internet settings and Orange does not offer the iPhone as it is an O2 exclusive. Now we have discovered a Vodafone portal designed for the iPhone. It is basically a portal that gives you access to news but the question is why would Vodafone go to these lengths if they weren’t about to get the iPhone, adding to the confusion is the following line from the page:-

“Available to all iPhone users including non-Vodafone customers.”

This is getting very suspicious and leads us to believe that we may very soon see the iPhone on more than O2 in the very near future and to be honest, it is a good thing as choice of Carrier is a very important choice to have.

imageT-Mobile today announces the launch of the MDA Compact V (aka Touch Diamond2), an advanced touchscreen smartphone designed exclusively for T-Mobile which combines elegant styling with an impressive feature list, including access to the latest mobile internet and entertainment services.

Building on the success of last year’s T-Mobile MDA Compact IV, the Compact V is the latest in T-Mobile’s exclusive MDA portfolio, a collection of high-end smartphones designed for those who won’t compromise on either sophisticated style or outstanding functionality.

The T-Mobile MDA Compact V is the first T-Mobile device to showcase internet on your phone with widgets, which allows users to select their favourite websites, including eBay, BBC News and Twitter, and receive updates as soon as information comes in, keeping them in-the-know on the latest news and views. Orange Vegas unboxing video

We’ve mentioned the Orange Vegas a few times on the site already but we managed to get hold of one to review.

The Orange Vegas

The Orange Vegas

Although the Vegas looks a bit like the HTC Touch, and has some obvious design similarities, it is in fact made by ZTE as the ZTE X760 rather than being made by HTC. It’s also not a Windows Mobile handset instead having it’s own custom UI.

Orange claim that the Vegas is the smallest, lightest and cheapest touchscreen handset available, while I agree that the £49 price tag on PAYG probably does make it the cheapest touchscreen, I feel sure that the smallest/lightest prize would go to the Neonode N2.

So the Orange Vegas is designed as an entry level handset, there are no bells and whistles. The lack of WiFi and 3G as well as the poor camera resolution will, perhaps, make the Vegas a no-no for the more sophisticated consumer. However the price point will certainly be a big plus!

We’ll have a review of the Orange Vegas up shortly but in the mean time have a look at the quick unboxing video and handset tour.
