We have had the BlackBerry Curve 9360 for some time now but it didn’t come with a box. At last we have a retail unit so we can bring you the unboxing video.
Running BlackBerry 7 this Curve has the traditional QWERTY keyboard, unlike its brother the Curve 9380. In terms of an improvement over its predecessor, the 9300 it is a vast improvement. All the specs have been beefed up and what we get is a fantastic BlackBerry without the hefty price tag that comes with the Bold and Torch series.
With BlackBerry having such a huge market share here in the UK this new Curve may well be one of the best selling Smartphone’s over the next twelve months.

Earlier this week I got my hands on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and recorded a pretty long unboxing and demo video. Normally, as part of the demo video, I include a quick run through using Quadrant to benchmark the relative performance of a new device and this time was no different.
I commented in the video that I was surprised that the benchmark results were not much higher given that the Galaxy Nexus has a dual-core CPU. However, as several viewers pointed out Quadrant is not optimised for the new Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) operating system so the results were somewhat queued.
In order to resolve that and to give a fairer representation of the speed I decided to record another benchmark video, this time using AnTuTu Benchmark, this gives a far more realistic benchmark and to see how that compares to another device we’re running up against the XPERIA Arc which has a 1GHz single-core CPU.

The Nokia Lumia 800 is the Finnish companies first Windows Phone to go on sale. To say that Nokia are rather proud of the handset would be an understatement and if you ask me they have a right to be proud. The device is beautiful. As well as looking good it is powered by a 1.4GHz processor, runs Windows Phone 7.5 Mango, sports an 8 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and and shoots video in 720P HD.
The device will be available in three colours over the coming weeks however initially it is just the black variant you can buy. The device is available now at all the usual places and I have a sneaky suspicion it may do rather well.

This could quite easily be the most anticipated smartphone of the year. Just looking at the specification of the new Samsung Galaxy Nexus is enough to get the blood pumping.
This new Galaxy Nexus is the third in the lineage of handsets to have the Nexus name and follows the Nexus One, made by HTC, and the Nexus S from Samsung.
In terms of specification the Galaxy Nexus is definitely at the top end of the market. Not only have we got a 1.2GHz dual-core CPU but also 1GB RAM and 16GB ROM. Perhaps the most stand-out features though are the Screen and the OS. The screen is nothing short of awesome thanks to the Super AMOLED technology and the 720×1280 HD resolution display. This is also the first phone to have Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

We first heard about the Huawei IDEOS S7 Slim way back in February when Gareth was treated to a sneaky demo in Barcelona. Ever since the event we’ve had promises of a review unit but we’ve only just been able to get hold of one some 9 months after our first hands-on.
The S7 Slim builds upon its bigger brother, the S7, in terms of spec. You may recall our IDEOS S7 review from almost a year ago. We concluded that the S7 was a decent, inexpensive alternative to many of the more pricy tablets out there and more refined than the raft of sub £100 tablets hitting the market.
Currently the S7 Slim is shipping with Android 2.2 Froyo, hopefully an update soon will take it to Gingerbread also.
This week we have another HTC handset in for review, and it’s another with the Sensation name on it. This time it’s the Sensation XL’s turn to be put though the the tracyandmatt boot-camp.
As I mentioned last week, HTC have used the Sensation name on a number of handsets recently and this one, as the XL suffix suggests, is the largest of them all and is in fact one of the largest handsets that HTC have produced. You may argue that the XL really is one of those handsets that bridges between phone and tablet.
The XL screen is 4.7″ which will be great for web browsing and video watching but it’s a shame that HTC couldn’t make it qHD as it is WVGA instead. A 4.7″ qHD screen would have been great.
Performance is pretty good as you’ll see from the benchmark score in the unboxing and demo video below. Looking forward to the review of this one! 🙂
Announced earlier this week the BlackBerry Curve 9380 is the first touch screen Curve to grace us with its presence. While not having a hardware keyboard this new Curve will appeal to many.
Running BlackBerry 7 and all the usual features you would expect such as a 5 megapixel camera, NFC, GPS and a 3.5 mm headset jack, the Curve 9380 seems to do most things pretty well.
If you are after a touch screen device which is great for viewing photos, watching video and playing music, along with the bonus of push email and BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) the Curve may be right up your street.

I’m sure that most of you know that drill by now, we get a new product in to review and the first thing we do is record an unboxing video of the things and go through a short demo of a couple of key areas.
But “wait!” I head you cry, “You’ve already reviewed the Samsung Galaxy Note on the site.”. True enough we did review the Note about a week or so ago and we’re only now getting to the unboxing video. The reason for this is that our review unit came from Samsung in a simple envelope without any or the retail packaging.
Fortunately it’s Clove to the rescue with a fully boxed model for us now so it’s time for the unboxing.
As we said in the review the Note has a truly awesome screen the definitely sets it apart from other small tablets out there. Despite having only a 5.3″ screen it crams in 1280×800 pixels!

In a similar way to the treatment the HTC Desire had last year, HTC have been been expanding the use of the Sensation name to include new models; HTC Sensation XE and Sensation XL.
We’re starting here with the XE. The XE is the same overall shape and size as the original sensation but the internals have been updated a little. Now instead of the 1.2GHz dual core CPU you’ll find a 1.5GHz processor. This is the main change to between the two models but the XE also features beats audio, ships with beats audio headphones and has red colour accents on the loudspeaker and menu buttons.
There will be a full review from us in the coming weeks. As always we don’t commit to a review after just a few days, we spend time using devices day-to-day before we give our verdict. I can tell you that the handset runs extremely fast and you can see the benchmark score in the video below too.
Something a little different for us today, we have the EASYWAKEme sleep stage alarm clock to review so we’re starting off with a quick unboxing video.
During the working week I get up at around 5am so when the folks at Easywake offered to send me an alarm that would allow me to “Get healthier with the lifestyle-friendly approach to sleep. With EASYWAKEme you are ready to start a new perfect day feeling revived, happy and energetic!” I thought it was worth a try.
How does it work? Well you wear a small bluetooth enabled unit on your arm while you sleep. This monitors even the smallest movements you make when you are sleeping and then chooses the most appropriate time to wake you within your sleep cycle. This is achieved by pairing the unit with a compatible mobile phone.
I’ll be trying it out for a while to see what difference it makes to me and I’ll come back with a short review soon.
