JCB Toughphone Pro-Smart unboxing & water test video

jcb_3

We mentioned earlier in the week that the JCB Pro-Smart was now available to order from Clove. The Android 2.3 device may be big and chunky but it will withstand drops, knocks, water, dust and scratches. The Pro-Smart may not be suited to everyone but if you are in the sort of business where dropping your smartphone could render it useless this may be the perfect handset.

One feature I love with the JCB Pro-Smart is its battery size. 2000mAp should easily get you through the day and some, especially as it is only powering a 3.2 inch touchscreen.

You can see the unboxing video below and I also perform the scratch and water test. Will it survive?

Nokia record a commercial using just the 808 PureView

Nokia-808-pureview-white-portrait-nok-pure

We know what a wonderful camera the Nokia PureView has and Nokia are showing this off with the latest commercial they have posted on their YouTube channel. The video has been filmed only using the 808 and it goes to show what an amazing job the 41 megapixel image sensor does.

I am still a little dubious as to how well the 808 PureView will sell for two reasons. The first is its price. Sim free the 808 is over £500. That is a lot of money and this leads me into the second reason which is the OS. The 808 runs Symbian. While Symbian has been a huge success for Nokia they have clearly said that Windows Phone will be their primary OS of the future. So to spend over £500 on a device that may have limited support in the future concerns me.

That said the camera capabilities are outstanding on the 808. You can see for yourself below.

Vodafone Mobile Wi-Fi R205 unboxing video

Voda MiFi

These mobile Wi-Fi units have been around for a while and we’ve looked at offerings from O2 and Three in the past. Sometimes referred to as Mi-Fi devices these units have a SIM card inside and, in Vodafone’s words ‘Makes Wi-Fi from Mobile’.

This new R205 model from Vodafone (Made but Huawei) is the same size and shape as previous models but has been updated so that the maximum speeds it can now achieve are 21Mbps down and 5.54Mbps up. A few firmware changes are also apparent and there’s a new usage counter that will help save you from going over your contract limits.

The one we have here in the video is on PAYG and can be purchased from Vodafone for just £65 when purchased at the same time as a £10 top-up.

Check out the brief video below while we crack on with the review.

HTC One V unboxing video

HTC One V

The smallest of HTC’s One Series is the V. With a 3.7 inch screen you could say it is dwarfed by its big brothers the One X and One S. Being smaller it may actually be a popular choice for many consumers. Clearly with a cheaper price tag this also may be attractive.

The specs of the HTC One V are a long way off that of the flagship One X. It packs a 1GHz processor, 5 megapixel camera and 720p HD video recording. With only 4GB of internal storage you will glad to know that the One V has MicroSD support up to 32GB.

At first glance you may think the One V looks familiar. That may be due to its ‘chin’ that it has inherited from the HTC Hero and Legend of years past. I’m quite a fan of the chin so I am personally glad to see it back.

In the following video you can see us unbox the One V and have a quick look around the device. Please ignore that part where I say it takes a micro-sim. I presumed that was the case as the X and S take one. I was wrong!

Mini Keyboard for BlackBerry PlayBook – Hands-On Video

mini-keyboard-12

I have had my eye on this piece of kit for a while now. The first batch of Mini Keyboards for the PlayBook arrived in the UK in the last day or so and I managed to secure one for testing.

The kit comes as two parts, as you will see. It consists of a nice leather case and a separate Bluetooth keyboard that slots into that there case. Once the PlayBook in the case and with the desk stand flippy out thing erected you pretty much have a small portable mini computer.

I can certainly see the benefits to using a product like this but I shall reserve my final judgment until I have had a good few days with it.

If you use the BlackBerry PlayBook you want to watch the following video.

HTC One S Unboxing Video

htc-one-s_01

The second ‘One Series’ device we have managed to get our hands on is the HTC One S. Slightly smaller than the One X, this beast sports a 4.3 inch screen which may well suit more people than its big brother. Powered by a nippy 1.5 Ghz dual core processor, the One S still packs a mean punch. Complete with a 8MP camera and full HD video capabilities, its 16GB of internal storage are boosted with the 25GB of free DropBox cloud storage you get with it.

We will of course have a full review in the next week or two so in the meantime you can see the unboxing below. Feel free to fire us any questions you may have that you would like us to cover.

HTC One X unboxing video

htc-one-x The HTC One X is the first of three new Android phones from the HTC stable to announced at MWC this year. All three will carry the “One” name but we’re starting off with the biggest. The One X has a whopping 4.7″ display manages to cram in 720×1280 pixels. It may sound like it’s going to be a monster in terms of size but HTC’s clever design and styling means that it really doesn’t look or feel as big as you might think.

The HTC One X is all about performance and thanks to the QUAD-core 1.5GHz CPU it doesn’t disappoint in this department either. Check out the benchmark results in the video below but I can tell you we’ve ended up with the highest benchmark numbers ever seen.

There’s no Micro-SD card slot on the One X but fortunately there’s 32GB of internal memory to store your photos and media.

You can find the unboxing and first impression video below and we’ll have another video for you later on where we’ll look at some of the other features in more detail.

Archos 101 G9 Unboxing Video

archos101g9icsArchos have been confusing the market lately by releasing a new version for their current line almost every month. This original version for the Archos 101 G9 weighs in with a Dual Core 1ghz processor, 512mb of RAM and 8gb of storage, Essentially what we are looking at is the original, basic version of their flagship device however over the last six months there has been a number of revisions to the specifications for you to consider.

The Archos 101 comes in four flavours, with roughly three variants of each flavour.

  1. Archos 101 G9 – Dual Core OMAP4, 1ghz, 512mb RAM with the option of storage size. 8/16gb flash or 250gb HDD storage
  2. Archos 101 G9 Turbo – Dual Core, 1.2ghz, 512mb RAM, 8 / 16 / 250gb storage
  3. Archos 101 G9 Turbo 1.5 – Dual Core, 1.5ghz 512mb RAM, 8 / 16 / 250gb storage
  4. Archos 101 G9 Turbo 1.5 – Dual Core, 1.5ghz, 1gb RAM, 8 / 16 / 250gb storage

Quite a lot of choice. Each model weighs in at a different price point however it might be more difficult to find the first options and even then it might be old/unsold stock. There is no 3G/Wi-Fi option as with many other tablets on the market. Instead Archos have given the customer the option to upgrade to 3G later if they so choose buy purchasing a 3G modem USB stick that slips snugly into the USB host port on the back.

The Archos tablet puts video playback first, and always has. Armed with a host of licensed codec’s the Archos will playback any and all major video formats you throw at it. The Archos also has SMB and other network storage streaming features built into it’s native video player to make it just that little bit easier to handle media servers.

It is important to note the unboxing features Android Honeycomb, however the final review will feature Ice Cream Sandwich.
