The year of the tablet continues. HP are pushing out their snazzy gizmo with an ad campaign that points out a few features Apple could have put in their iPad but didn’t. The only thing that is missing is a kid at the end with his thumb on his nose, wiggling his fingers and blowing raspberries. Like the iPhone I doubt these will make a huge dent in Apple’s sales but at least there will be a device somewhere along the lines that ticks all the boxes be it from Archos, Dell, HP etc.
Well I finally got my hands on the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 last week. This is a handset that I’d waited a long time to review as it’s one we’ve known about for months but for some reason the actual release seems to keep being pushed back. However, I understand that the X10 will go on sale any day now and is already available on O2 and the white version will be an Orange exclusive.
The X10 is a large Android powered device and with a 4″ capacitive touchscreen it is of a similar overall size to the Toshiba TG01 or the HTC HD2 although just a little smaller. I believe that it’s currently the largest-screened Android phone available at the moment.
Having had the handset for a few days now there are some things that really impress me about it. First of all the 4″ screen is really good. At 480×854 pixels it’s of a high enough resolution and of a large enough physical size to make watching videos and using the web browser a pleasurable mobile experience.
The camera too is great. Sony Ericsson are known for having good quality camera-phones and the 8.1 megapixel shooter in the X10 is no exception. I think this too is that highest resolution camera in an Android handset at the moment.
So it’s unboxing video time and below I have a slightly lengthy one for you. As the Desire videos I recorded last week seem to have been popular with a combination of unboxing and brief demo I thought I would stick to that format with the X10. Check it out after the jump:
Ok I actually hate these videos but I am sure some of you will enjoy this one as there has been so much iPad news over the last few weeks that it has become a bit unbearable.
Enjoy Tom doing his stuff:-
We’ve reviewed a few of the media player products from the Sony Walkman range in the past so were pleased when Sony offered to send us the newest NWZ-A845 which went on sale at the beginning of March this year.
There were a few things that made the NWZ-A845 stand out. Firs of all it has a fairly large OLED display at 240×400 pixels, good for video playback, secondly it’s only 7mm thick! Impressive when you consider what Sony have packed in to that small space, including a battery that claims to give 29 hours of MP3 playback.
Another cool feature of the NWZ-A845 is that it comes with special noise cancelling headphones. The headphones have a built in microphone to pick up the ambient noise which the Walkman then processes to produce anti-noise. They work really rather well!
As always we’ll have a full written review for you soon but for the time being you can enjoy the unboxing video below.
It’s been a while since we reviewed a projector here at tracyandmatt and this week we’ve ended up with two to look at. The first of which is the Mitsubishi XD600U DLP projector.
On paper the XD600U sounds pretty impressive with its 4500 ANSI Lumens brightness, probably one of the brightest projectors that you can buy at the moment. This means that you can use the projector in a room without having to close all of the blinds/curtains and turning off all the lights, particularly useful if you are using the projector for business applications.
The other thing about the XD600U is that it’s 3D ready. You will need some additional kit in order experience 3D with this projector, including a set of 3D shutter glasses but I believe this is one of the few projectors to offer the capability so far.
So to test this projector out of got myself a large projector screen and hooked up to my PS3. Take a look at the video below to see the unboxing and a look at the connectors and controls. Later on in the video you can also see a bit of a demo of the XD600U in use.
It’s been a while since we had a dedicated SatNav device in for review and over two years since we last reviewed anything from Mio.
When it comes to satellite navigation products most people will think or TomTom, CoPilot or maybe Navman but I don’t think Mio’s name would spring to mind for mot people but in actual fact Mio have been making GPS enable PocketPC’s and dedicated GPS devices for years.
When Mio contacted me offering the Moov for review I thought it would be just another Pocket PC style devices with built in GPS capability and maps from one of the better known sources.
I was wrong.
The Mio Moov Spirit V505 is a bit different. It’s a dedicated SatNav unit with not only a BIG screen but also a built-in TV tuner. Ideal for those that drive professionally and want to do something when they have to take their rest breaks.
James spends a LOT of time on the road so will be doing the review over the coming week but I’ve recorded a brief unbox to show you what it’s all about!
Gareth, James, Matt and Andy are back for another chat about all things mobile. In this weeks episode Matt gets all gooey over the HTC Desire and slightly less gooey about the Xperia X10, new Tarrifs hit for 3 and Orange and a dreamy new phone emerges for the American market.
Regulars: James Richardson, Matt Davis, Gareth Myles and Andy Lee
I have been using Vlingo for just over a week now and boy, has it made my life easier. If you have not heard of Vlingo then to summarise it, its an application that will allow you to convert speech to text.
I spend anything from two to five hours a day in my car which means if i want to email or instant message people I need to either pull over or wait until I have stopped. Not any more!
With the touch of a button Vlingo records your voice and converts it into text in pretty much any application on your phone.

He’s got an iPad and he’s put together a very short unpacking video. He doesn’t unbox but shows off a handsome array of accessories to compliment. Obviously he is going to have a productive day.
