You may have seen our recent BlackBerry Torch videos that I shot at the London press event last week. As normal with these events the videos never come out as good as I would like so I have used my magic powers and got hold of a Torch 9800!
In the video below you will see me demonstrate most of the features on the new BlackBerry, and I must say I am really loving the device.
Enjoy the video and tell your friends to have a look too!
This week we’re joined by our old friend and special guest Chris Oldroyd. Tracy steps in with some special mobile deals and Andy has a mishap in his trousers.
Earlier today we showed you a video of what we believe to be a forthcoming HTC Windows Phone 7 device. The same site, solopalmari.com has also published a video of the HTC Desire HD which also looks rather nice.
We still have nothing official from HTC regarding this device but it is definitely coming, that I can confirm.
With Windows Phone 7 launching in the next few months a sighting has been made of what is believed to be HTCs first offering into the ‘7’ camp.
Allegedly called the HTC Schubert (What a funny name!) this device is said to be available from day one when ‘7’ hits the streets. Like the HTC Legend this one is said to be made from a single piece of aluminum which if true should set it apart from its rivals.
You can see the video below, compliments of Solo Palmari, and check out the back of the phone. It looks real sweet.
First confirmed in a Vodafone Germany stock system screen late July, HTC’s codenamed ‘Ace’ device has been building up a steady head of rumour, culminating in the recent leak of a rumoured prototype device (pictured here). You may be aware that James and Matt have been talking about the HTC Ace for several months but now we know that the new flagship handset will almost certainly be called the HTC Desire HD.
So, in a wheat/chaff sorting effort, let’s take a look at the whispers:
The LG Cookie Fresh (GS290) is another super good value touch screen device from the South Korean giant.
At under £60 the phone is lacking a few features such as Wi-Fi and 3G but it does offer great social network integration and includes its own Facebook client.
Sony Ericsson has met both ends of the size spectrum with their latest Android smartphones. The X10 and its 4 inch display sat at the top end, and the X10 mini obviously took its place at bottom end. The Mini Pro may be at the bottom end by size standards, but by no means is it bottom end in terms of features and functionality.
The X10 Mini now has a Pro version, and it remains virtually unchanged except for the addition of a hardware qwerty keyboard. My main gripe with the Mini was its slow text input, so when the Mini Pro was heading my way, it seemed like the perfect answer to my prayers. It’s probably the smallest qwerty slider the world has ever seen, and probably the smallest we’ll ever see, so its carved itself a pretty unique slot to sit in. But can a device so small make a large enough impression to deserve a place in your pocket? Read on to see our verdict.
As you will see in the video, notifications are shown at the top of the BlackBerry Torch screen. Giving them a touch launches a brand new way of viewing them. Now all notifications are shown full screen in a list. By tapping any one of them, whether they be a message, calendar event, Twitter or Facebook notification you are taken into that particular application.
A great new way to manage your notifications quickly and efficiently.
In the following video I give you a very quick demo of the keyboard options on the BlackBerry Torch 9800. As you will see, as well as the hardware QWERTY keyboard you have on screen options as well. What I don’t show though is that if you prefer you can have the onscreen keyboard set to suretype, meaning you have two letters on each key. I personally cant stand that one hence the reason that I didn’t think to test it!
As I mentioned in an earlier post the hardware keyboard is much the same as on the current BlackBerry Bold 9700. It did feel a little different to me but I am putting that down to the fact that the Torch feels totally different in the hand compared to the Bold 9700.
What I can tell you is that the onscreen keyboard worked perfectly. I managed to type 100% mistake free in portrait mode, something which I cant even to on my iPhone so overall i am incredibly impressed with the on screen typing options on the Torch. Nice work RIM.
Media has always been one of the things that has let down BlackBerry in the past and this has now been addressed with BlackBerry 6 on the Torch 9800.
As you will see I had a quick play with the media features on the device at the press event and things have most definitely taken a step in the right direction.
With a new picture gallery, music player and video player which looks good (unlike on current BB’s) RIM have really listened to what people want from a smartphone. Sorry about the camera going out of focus. It was the lighting in the room. You will however see the important bits.
