BlackBerry Music Gateway goes on sale

music-gateway

You many remember that when I was at BlackBerry World last month we showed you a video of the new BlackBerry Music Gateway that RIM were demonstrating.

If you are not familiar with the product I will summarize it. Essentially, the Gateway is a small gadget that connects to your TV or stereo system and by using NFC on your BlackBerry you connect your device to it with a quick tap and then control music output and volume controls via the handset itself. Not only perfect for at home but great for parties allowing multiple users to play what ever music they happen to have on their BlackBerry.  I don’t have a UK price as yet but the in the USA the Music Gateway is priced at $49.99 which seems very reasonable.

If you missed my hands on video you can see it again below and we will of course have one of these in for a review ASAP.

Samsung Galaxy S3 benchmark video

Samsung-Galaxy-siii_azul Following on from our Samsung Galaxy S3 unboxing and demo video we have another short video of the S3, this time James runs Quadrant so that we can see what the benchmark scores say.

We’re all expecting to see the Galaxy S3 put in a massive performance here but just how quick is it compared to it’s closest competitor the HTC One X? Check out the video below to find out, it’s a close run thing but does the S3 actually come out on top??

Samsung Galaxy SIII unboxing and hands-on video (the pebble blue version)

SG SIII

Thanks to Vodafone we have managed to get our hands on not just any old Samsung Galaxy S3 but the infamous pebble blue one that is currently delayed and not available to buy just yet.

Tipped to be the best Android phone of the year the SGSIII sure has some great specs that may well out do the competition. Its 1.4GHz quad core processor sure makes things speedy and combined with the 4.8 inch Super AMOLED display it it certainly looks like the phone to beat.

Our man Vince will be doing the review over the next week and he will also have with him the HTC One X so expect some comparisons.

Which one will come out on top I wonder.

Stay tuned for the review and in the meantime you can see the unboxing and hands on video below:

Another reasonably priced Android device launches today, the Vodafone Smart II. Priced at just £70 on Pay as you go price plans the handset may well be perfect for first time smartphone users.

The Smart II outperforms its predecessor in every way, while still retaining its low price point to appeal to people thinking about picking up their first smartphone. It runs on Android 2.3, offers a bigger display, better camera, longer battery life, a more powerful processor and more memory than the original Smart, making for an even better user experience.

The Smart II gives users great connectivity and provides access to Google Android services such as Gmail, VoiceSearch, YouTube and Google Talk. Combined with a large collection of embedded apps such as Facebook and Twitter – plus access to SWYPE for quick and easy typing, and Vodafone AppSelect to discover even more great apps – the Smart II offers a high quality, affordable option in the smartphone arena.

Available in dark grey and white, customers can make the most of their new Smart II with our great value Freebees, which include a choice of free minutes, text and web access or international calls – www.vodafone.co.uk/freebees. Every pay as you go customer is also automatically opted-in to Freebee Rewardz.

Sony Xperia U unboxing video

sony-xperia-u Sony have been releasing Xperia handsets with regularity recently and the latest to be made available is there Xperia U that we are looking at here.

The ‘U’ is the smallest of the new Xperia range with ‘only’ a 3.5″ screen. Having said that Sony have still crammed 480×854 pixels in to that relatively small space which gives it a sharp and clear appearance. Colours are strong and even thanks to the LED backlight technology.

The Sony Xperia U is touted as the budget Xperia but it doesn’t really have a bargain price-tag, there’s quite a lot inside that keeps the price fairly high so the ‘budget’ label is rather relative here.

There are perhaps two main bugbears with this handset. The first being that there’s no memory card slot. Whist there is 8GB of internal storage that’s a fixed amount that cannot be expanded and let’s face it, 8GB isn’t huge these days.

Secondly, Sony have chosen to ship the Xperia U, and indeed all of the current Xperia range, with Android 2.3 Gingerbread. This feels a bit ‘old hat’ now and whilst Sony have promised Ice Cream Sandwich soon I suspect that many will be wary of such claims and will remember a similar situation with the X10 and X10 mini being left as 1.6.

Anyway, you can check out my unboxing and demo video below.

Angry Birds Friends – Video

Angry Birds Friends

It looks like Angry Birds on Facebook is getting a boost. The above video was released on Rovio’s YouTube channel today and says that users will be able to compete with friends in weekly tournaments to win power-ups, with new levels to play each week.

I haven’t personally tried Angry Birds on the web. Maybe I will now.
