Review: HTC HD2

DSCN0638 The world is pretty excited about the HTC HD2 and it’s easily the most notable Windows Mobile phone to hit the market in years. Bold, daring and huge but is the HTC HD2 worth looking at?

Samsung Omnia Pro unboxing video

The Samsung Omnia Pro will be the second Omnia branded handset that we’ll look at this week as the Omnia Lite review is already under way.

The Samsung Omnia Pro

The Samsung Omnia Pro

The Samsung Omnia Pro B7330 (Aka Pro Scala) is one of any a few Windows Mobile Standard handsets out there at the moment, even fewer are of the forward-facing QWERTY keyboard design. The Omnia Pro goes pretty much head-to-head with the HTC Snap which has been around a little while now.

The Samsung Omnia Pro ships with Windows Mobile 6.5 Standard, you need to upgrade the Snap to get to 6.5, and is a good looking handset. There’s isn’t a great deal of difference between WinMo 6.1 Standard and WinMo 6.5 Standard visually, the difference is no where near as obvious as Professional 6.1 vs Professional 6.5 but there are a number of differences under the hood.

James is reviewing the Samsung Omnia Pro at the moment and will undoubtedly be comparing it to his HTC Snap. We”ll have the review for you soon.  Until then we’ll leave you with the unboxing video below.

Nice video of the Xperia X10

Sony-Ericsson-Xperia-X10

Blimey, two Xperia stories in one day? The phonescoop takes a look at the gorgeous Sony Ericsson Xperia X10. I know, I know the X3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 were oddly skipped out, perhaps they will release a bunch of phone with lesser specs around the same time. However, I can safely say from the video, I want one.

Sony Ericsson Aino unboxing video

Last week our friends over at Clove Technology sent over the Sony Ericsson Aino for us to take a look at. First impressions were that it was much like any other slider-style handset, it has a 3″ limited functionality touch-screen a numeric pad under the sliding screen and 8.1 mega pixel digital camera. It’s not until you turn the Aino on that you realise that the screen is a little different to your average mobile – it’s a full 16.7 million colour display. Now you may wonder if that makes any difference and looking at the spec, I wondered the same, but when you watch video or look at photos on this handset, there’s a clear difference.

As well as having that lovely display, the other thing that sets the Aino apart is that it comes complete with a mini docking station and a bluetooth headset with media controls. An excellent idea!

So we’re in the middle of reviewing the Sony Ericsson Aino at the moment and we’ll have that for you over the next week or so. For now then take a look at the unboxing video to see what’s included.

Powermat unboxing video

A few months ago, when we were away in the US we went to one of my favourite shops, Best Buy, and saw a huge display of Powermat products. I’d heard about the technology which is basically wireless inductive charging, but to that point hadn’t seen a product to make use of it.

The Powermat essentially comes in two parts. The mat itself, available in office/home and portable versions, and a ‘receiver’ unit. The receiver comes in a variety of forms from a simple Powercube that comes with the Powermat allowing you to charge USB devices to a selection of ‘jackets’ to fit iPhone, Blackberry and Nintendo DS.

Powermat

The nice people from Powermat sent me over a review unit to take a look at so in the video below you’ll see the home/office version of the Powermat as well as the Powercube and a receiver/dock for the iPhone/iPod.

Powermat unboxing video

There are many other receiver units available so head over to the Powermat site to see if they make one for your favourite device.

No more tangled mess of cords or searching for the right adaptor, simply place your enabled device on the Powermat to charge. Featuring a full range of wireless charging solutions for all your favorite devices, Powermat is compatible with iPhone, BlackBerry, MP3 players, cell phones, headsets, hand held electronic games, digital cameras, and GPS units. Whether you charge at home, at the office, on the road, or in all of these places, Powermat has a solution for you.

HTC HD2 demonstration video

Yesterday we unboxed the HTC HD2 and promised you a video demo of the user interface and some applications, well here’s the video!

Obviously we’ve only picked out a couple of things to look at else the video would have been a week long but we’ll comment on more of the apps and general usage when we come to do the full HD2 review later this week.

HTC HD2 demonstration video

As I said in the previous post, please keep your questions about the HD2 coming and we’ll try to answer them either straight away or in the review itself. You can submit your questions via the HD2 forum thread.

EDIT: Our extensive HTC HD2 review is now live on site.
