Acer Liquid unboxing video

Acer and formerly Eten are no stranger to Windows Mobile smartphone devices but before the launch of the Acer Liquid (Acer A1) they’d never strayed from the Microsoft platform. The Acer Liquid launched earlier this week and is Acer’s first foray in to the world of Android OS and there’s another first for this handset, it’s the first Android powered handset to have a WVGA, 480×800 pixel display. Previously the largest display was 320×480.

Acer Liquid (Acer A1)

Acer Liquid (Acer A1)

If you take a look at the specification of the Acer Liquid (aka Acer A1) you’ll see some excellent plus-points. Starting with the Snapdragon processor, not the 1Ghz version but still a pretty rapid 768MHz then there’s 512MB ROM and 256MB RAM to keep things running along at a fair old clip. There’s also a 5MP auto-focus camera, and although there’s no flash, it’s about the best camera to be found on an Android handset, the 5MP camera with flash in the Motorola Milestone being just that bit better.

So we’ll be spending the next week or so trying out the Acer Liquid, one of us on the team will be using it as our main handset and giving it a thorough test. The review will be here for you soon. As always we have a quick unboxing video for you which is more of a tour of the hardware. I’ll also have a more detailed video of the OS and UI for you soon. Please do feel free to submit your comments or questions about the Acer Liquid over on the forum and we’ll do our back to address them for you!

Motorola Milestone unboxing video

This is another of those eagerly awaited devices, having sold over 1 million units in the US as the Motorola Droid it’s expected to be a big hit here in the UK as the Motorola Milestone.

The Motorola Milestone (Motorola Droid)

The Motorola Milestone (Motorola Droid)

This is the first Android 2.0 Eclair OS device to hit the market and one of only two Android handsets to have a 480×800 pixel display, the other being the Acer Liquid that we are also reviewing at the moment.

I’ve only had the Milestone for about half an hour and after finishing the unboxing video (below) I’ve had a little play. I am so far impressed with the build quality of the handset and the speed belies the 550Mhz processor that sounds to be a little on the slow side, but really doesn’t ‘feel’ it!

We’ll be reviewing the Motorola Milestone over the next week or so and we’ll have that onsite for you as soon as we can. For now have a look at the unboxing video below for a quick tour of the hardware. Also as I mentioned in the video, just like the Dext you cant do anything with this handset without installing a SIM-card which is a little annoying. I’ll have another video of the OS for you later on!

Nokia E52 unboxing video

Not long ago Emma reviewed the Nokia E55 and she was pretty impressed with it. The 20-key compact QWERTY of the E55 wasn’t to everyone’s liking so Nokia have now come up with the Nokia E52. The E52 looks almost identical to the E55 but instead of the compact QWERTY offers a standard numeric keypad.

Dragon for iPhone now available

photo If you have ever used any voice to text applications on your PC then I am sure you have heard of Dragon. Well today the Dragon Application has hit the App Store (US only at the moment) and it is totally free.

This little program allows you to talk to your iPhone and have it transcribed to text, you can then paste it into Email, SMS or any other iPhone App and I have tested it and it works pretty well.

Gear Diary have done a video of the application in action and here is the iTunes link for the App.

LG GD510 unboxing video

Launched a few months ago in Korea the LG GD510 Pop offered to be a more environmentally friendly handset with the option of a replacement battery compartment with a built-in solar panel.

Pop-angled-left

The LG GD510 Pop

The DG510 may be fairly basic, no 3G or WiFi connectivity available for starters, but it’s not a bad looking handset and if you are looking for something that’ll easily slip in your back pocket or purse then the GD510 is small, slim and light enough to do that and still sports the S-Class user interface!

So we’ve been playing with the LG Pop for a few days and will have a full review on site for you soon. Have a look at the unboxing video below for a tour of the hardware and a brief look at the UI.

LG GD510 unboxing video

LG GD510, or more simply, “Pop”, the most compact 3-inch full touchscreen phone ever made. The LG GD510 is the handset people who want a simple touchscreen phone have been waiting for.

LG has been one of the industry’s leading innovators in touchscreen phones since it launched the world’s first full touchscreen phone, PRADA Phone by LG, in January 2007. Since then, the company has achieved great success in the touchscreen devices market by creating an array of handsets designed to meet different consumer needs. For instance, LG’s Cookie (KP500) is an affordable full touchscreen phone that has already sold more than 7 million units worldwide since its launch earlier this year. With the LG GD510, LG is applying its tried and true strategy to another new model – this time, to a compact full touchscreen handset.

LG GD510 Pop specification:

  • Display: TFT touchscreen 240 x 400 pixels – 3.0 inches
  • Memory: 42MB internal storage
  • Card slot: up to 16GB
  • Dimensions: 97.8 x 49.5 x 11.2 mm
  • Weight: 87g
  • 2G: GSM 900 / 1800 / 1900
  • Camera: 3.15 MP, 2048×1536 pixels
  • Radio: Stereo FM radio with RDS
  • Bluetooth: v2.0 with A2DP
  • USB: microUSB

Nokia E72 unboxing video

Well it doesn’t seem so long ago that we reviewed the Nokia E71 but it was in fact over a year ago that the E71 landed on my desk! This week we are going to be looking at the Nokia E72 which replaces the E71.

The Nokia E72

The Nokia E72

As you can see, the E72 is an evolutionary step from the E71 rather than a revolutionary handset. Virtually the same keyboard, screen and form-factor for the E72 but the design is updated, the black version we have has a chrome bezel around the front and a mirror finished battery cover which I think looks really good.

The other thing to like about the E72, and the E71 for that matter, is just how thin it is; just over 10mm thick it will easily fit in your trouser pocket without leaving an awkward bulge.

We have a number of forward-facing QWERTY handsets in for review at the moment so we’ll be making comparisons between the E72 and the Blackberry 9700 and Samsung Omnia Pro. Review will be here soon but take a look at the unboxing video for a tour around the handset.

Nokia E72 Specification:

  • Dimensions: 114 x 59.5 x 10.1mm
  • Weight: 128g
  • Battery: Capacity: 1500 mAh
  • Talk Time: 12.5 hrs
  • Standby Time: 576 hrs
  • Display: 320 x 240 pixels/2.36 inch
  • 2G: 850/900/1800/1900 (Quad-Band)
  • 3G: 900/1900/2100 (Tri-Band)
  • Camera: 5 mega-pixels (auto-focus)
  • LED Flash
  • FM Stereo Radio (RDS)

HTC Tattoo is growing?

htc-tattoo-unboxed-6

Doing a little Youtube watching tonight I found this video of the HTC Tattoo and I think HTC have decided to market the device as being a great deal larger than it actually is. I have one sitting here and unless this is the child’s finger there is no way the HTC Tattoo is this size. Are they embarrassed about how it ended up? the screen is super small and something quite off putting, especially with “stumpy” fingers as a comment once declared on one of my video. See the video and my comparison after the break:

LG GM750 unboxing video

There’s a raft of new Windows Mobile 6.5 handsets hitting the market at the moment. LG want a piece of the action and have launched the LG GM750. The GM750 is quite similar in form and spec. to the Samsung Omnia Lite that we reviewed a few days ago. It’s strange how LG and Samsung often seem to have very similar handsets out at the same time!

The LG GM750

The LG GM750

The LG GM750 is a Vodafone exclusive here in the UK at the moment so if you want to get your hands on one you’ll either have to be a Vodafone customer or else splash out on getting one unlocked.

Steve is doing a review of the GM750 at the moment and will, in sure, be making comparisons between this and the Omnia Lite that he reviewed the other day. I’ve told him that he cant just send me the Omnia Lite review with Samsung crossed out and LG written in!

Have a look at the brief unboxing video below where you’ll find a quick tour of the UI too.
