HTC One (retail) unboxing video

htc-one It’s been about six weeks since I first got my hands on the HTC One and I recorded the typical unboxing and demo video.

The unit I unboxed back then was a pre-release unit and although it was final hardware it wasn’t final ROM nor was it in final retail packaging, coming instead in the customary plain white box from HTC.

So for the sake of completeness I thought I would record another video now that I have the retail version in my hands to show what you get if you buy an HTC One on the high street, and also to recap the specs.

If you are looking for a bit more detail please check out the earlier HTC One demo video.

Nokia Lumia 520 unboxing video

Nokia-Lumia-520 Nokia seems to be bouncing back quite well at the moment and their Windows Phone 8 powered Lumia range seems to be serving them rather well.

Yesterday I managed to get hold of one of their latest handsets, the Nokia Lumia 520. Pitched as an ‘affordable value smartphone’ it’s the smallest of the range and sits firmly at the bottom end sitting under the Lumia 620 and cheaper by around £50.

There are a few features absent from this model, for example there’s no front facing camera and the rear 5 megapixel shooter has no LED flash for companionship. The former may be of little concern to most but the later may be of concern to many. The camera itself is also not great but usable.

On the more positive side, true to the rest of the range, there are colour options for the 520 and you can change the back cover to update the colour to match your mood. Very important to the fashion conscious I’m sure.

So what we do have is a fairly small and light Windows Phone 8 device that’s actually quite capable.

Check out the unboxing video below to see more.

HTC One cases from Mobile Fun

DD1 I’ve never really been a fan of putting a phone in a case. I just don’t really like how it affects the shape, size or design of the phone. However, with phones becoming larger, their screens becoming bigger and more fragile, getting a decent quality case for your phone is a very sensible thing to do in order to protect your investment.

Buying a case for a phone that has just been released isn’t as easy as if you were buying one for a phone that has been on the market for a while so upon getting my HTC One, and realising that it definitely needed some protection, it was time to scour the web for something suitable.

I recently came across the site www.mobilefun.com and they already have tons of suitable cases in stock.

I picked the ArmourDillo Hybrid Protective Case as it looked like that would offer optimal protection, ideal for when I’m spending the day in a more ‘hazardous’ environment. I also picked the Double Dip Hard Shell as this seemed to offer a design that was in keeping with the look of the HTC One.

Have a look at the video and photos below to see them in greater detail. Both are excellent, fit well and have all the cut-outs and holes in the right place, definitely worth considering!

Great news for EE 4G customers

ee-logo

EE is doubling the speed and capacity of its 4G network, doubling the average speeds for 4GEE customers to more than 20Mbps and future proofing the network.

Double-speed 4G will roll out to ten existing 4G cities by summer – Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Manchester and Sheffield. The improvements will be automatically available within existing plans to new and current customers.

EE has set a target of reaching one million 4G customers by the end of 2013, and stated its aim to always offer the fastest network in the UK.

9th April, 2013 – EE, the UK’s most advanced digital communications company, is doubling the speed and capacity of its 4G network. The arrival of double-speed 4G, which enables lab speeds of 130Mbps, will boost headline 4G speeds to 80Mbps plus, and double the average speeds for 4GEE customers to more than 20Mbps.

EE is doubling the amount of 1800MHz spectrum bandwidth dedicated to 4G, from 10MHz to 20MHz. This will give 4GEE customers increased capacity, and access to some of the fastest mobile speeds in the world, reinstating the UK as a leader in mobile and digital communications.

EE is forecasting mobile data traffic to grow by as much as 750% in the next three years alone. Increased speeds and capacity are vital for mobile operators to continue to deliver a consistently high quality experience. EE is committed to always having the fastest network in the UK.

Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes/Phantom Pain announced

metal gear 5Metal Gear Solid is one of the best and longest standing gaming series and has a huge fan base to boot, so you would imagine that the announcement from GDC 2013 has got the community all excited.

As you will see In the title there are Im fact two separate titles for what initially seemed to be one game, but Konami have moved to quash the rumour mill by announcing that there are two separate games that make up to Metal Gear Solid 5, named Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain – this is definitely an interesting decision from Kojima productions but i imagine they will pull it off with very few hitches as Kojima himself is a perfectionist.
