Samsung Knox approved by department of defense for use in the US Government

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., today announced that Samsung Knox-enabled devices have been approved by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) for use in DoD networks. The Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) has finished successful testing of Samsung Knox devices.

With the official approval, Samsung Knox-enabled devices, including smartphones and tablets, will be listed as approved products for use by U.S. government and military officials within DoD networks. The DoD security requirement guidelines for mobile operation systems are one of the highest security standards in the world and this marks the first time for Android-powered devices to meet such high security requirements.

EE roll out 4G to more UK towns

EE, the UK’s most advanced digital communications company, today announced that 4G is available in 12 more towns across the UK, bringing the total number of towns and cities covered by the superfast mobile network to 62.

Today, 4GEE is being switched on in Aylesbury, Berkhamsted, Billericay, Blackpool, Brentwood, Dewsbury, Huddersfield, Lytham St Annes, Marlow, Pontefract, Thame and Windsor as roll out continues to progress ahead of schedule. 4G from EE now covers the homes and businesses of more than 50% of the UK population. By the end of June, EE is committed to launching 4G in at least another 18 towns and cities, bringing the total to 80, and aims to cover 70% of the population by the end of 2013.

Virgin Media offer up a Galaxy S4 deal

Virgin Media has announced that its TiVo and Broadband customers will be able to get their hands on the Samsung Galaxy S4 from just £31* per month when it hits stores this Saturday.

Virgin Media TV broadband or home phone customers who choose the Samsung Galaxy S4 will get £5 off their monthly mobile tariff, inclusive insurance worth £7.99 per month and unlimited calls and texts to other Virgin Media mobiles.

Key Highlights:

· Strong demand for superfast 4G services: 4G customer base reaches 318k after just five months of trading, firmly on track to meet target of more than one million 4G customers by the end of 2013; over 1,600 medium and large companies using 4G; network rollout to reach 70% UK population by year end

· Secured UK’s best spectrum portfolio for superfast 4G data services: acquired 2x5MHz of 800MHz and 2x35MHz of 2.6GHz spectrum for £589m; now hold industry-leading 36% share of UK mobile spectrum, an unrivalled foundation for the future

· Steady underlying service revenue performance: service revenue excluding regulatory Mobile Termination Rate (MTR) and roaming cuts of -0.4% (Q4 2012: +1.5%) year-on-year (yoy) following macroeconomic/competitive pressures; including regulatory impact -5.4% yoy (Q4 2012: -3.9%)

· Attracting high value customers: postpaid mobile net adds of 166k (Q1 2012: 151k) (excluding MVNOs and M2M), the best Q1 postpaid net adds performance since the creation of the company; 53% (Q1 2012: 49%) of mobile customers now on postpaid plans that deliver five times higher Average Revenue Per Customer (ARPU) than prepaid; in-line with industry shift toward postpaid and reflecting post-Christmas seasonality, prepaid customers decreased by -571k (Q1 2012: -494k)

Motorola DEFY+ now available on Three

Samsung and EA Games team up for the Galaxy S4 launch

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. Has announced that the highly anticipated Galaxy S4 will introduce an exclusive edition of EA’s bestselling racing title ‘Need for Speed Most Wanted’. The game which has been optimised for Samsung will feature in-game Samsung branding and will be available for download from Samsung Games.

EE partners with Guardian News & Media

EE has today announced a partnership with Guardian News & Media to unveil a new online and mobile user-generated content platform, GuardianWitness. Powered by EE, GuardianWitness will allow the general public to submit their videos, pictures and text directly to the Guardian for inclusion on the platform, allowing anyone, from anywhere across the globe, the chance to have their say.

EE is the UK’s first and only superfast 4G mobile network, making EE the perfect partner for this new platform – a digital network for a digital age, which echoes the Guardian’s digital-first strategy and open approach to newsgathering. GuardianWitness will champion open journalism by encouraging the public to capture and share their content instantly via their mobiles and other internet connected devices, wherever they are. 4G from EE typically works up to five times faster than 3G, allowing 4G users to upload content quicker than ever before. The service is already live in 50 towns and cities across the UK.

The new platform is available via free iPhone or Android apps, or online via witness.guardian.co.uk. Selected submissions will go on to be featured on the Guardian website or in the Guardian or Observer newspapers, enabling users to help set the news agenda and become part of the Guardian’s award-winning journalism, comment and reporting. Huawei announce the G150 in partnership with Vodafone

Huawei has annouced its big-screened entry-level Ascend G510 smartphone will be on sale with Vodafone UK from April 12. The launch of the Ascend G510 will be attended by a significant ATL marketing campaign, which brings to life the handset’s ‘Outstanding Features’ and will run across print, digital and outdoor media.

Available from Vodafone UK from £13 per month on pay-monthly and £130 on pay as you go, the Ascend G510 combines unmatched functionality, form-factor and firepower in its class to deliver big-screen mobile entertainment for a new generation moving to smartphones and upgrading old technology.

It follows a series of Huawei smartphones combining great features and value in the low-to-mid tier, including the highly-successful and award-winning Ascend G300, a direct predecessor of the Ascend G510 with Vodafone UK.

ZTE announce the GEEK – Yes, you did read that right!

ZTE has debuted the ZTE GEEK, the first ZTE smartphone powered by Intel’s new 32nm Atom processor Z2580, at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) in Beijing, China.

The ZTE GEEK has a 5-inch HD screen with resolution of up to 1280×720. It runs on the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS and has 8GB eMMC+1GBRAM. It also features an 8-megapixel rear camera, 1-megapixel front camera, an LED supplement light, and a 2300mAh large-capacity battery. The phone is powered by the Intel’s new 32nm Atom processor Z2580, which has a CPU frequency of 2.0GHZ. Tests show that compared to Intel’s previous processor, the Clover Trail+ processor is twice as fast for computing and three times as fast for graphics. It also reduces power consumption.
