HTC 7 Mozart on PAYG

HTC-7-Mozart-Orange-UK

You will be pleased to know that our review of the HTC 7 Mozart and Windows Phone 7 will be ready for publishing in the next couple of days. If you have been thinking of getting the Mozart but are not due for an upgrade the word on the street is that you can get the HTC 7 Mozart from Orange on PAYG.

It is not cheap at £399.99 but thousands of us buy sim free phones every year so I am sure that Orange will sell plenty of them.

You can get the Mozart either online or at your local Orange retail store.

iPhone outsells BlackBerry in Q3

apple-v-rim-_original-400x254

For the first time ever Apple have sold more iPhones in Q3 than RIM has sold BlackBerry smartphones, according to Strategy Analytics. In fact 20% more which is quite a jump.

Nokia are clearly still number one worldwide but could Apple make the gap even smaller? With rumors rife that Verizon Wireless will release a CDMA iPhone sometime soon Apples sales will only grow and grow.

Come on RIM. We need something special from you and I’m not talking about a tablet with a funny name. We need a super BlackBerry, please.

Trick or Tweet – Angry Birds goes Halloween

angry As if to wipe the smug grin off of all those Android owners with their free copies of the world’s premier avian demolition game, Rovio have released Angry Birds Halloween.  It’s still only 59p and even better, the HD version is only £1.19 for us fans of giant iPods (you know, iPads).  The plot remains the same – pigs inexplicably steal eggs, eggs parents become feathered suicidal sling ammo – but the graphics and sounds have all been given a Halloween makeover, including the requisite pumpkins, werewolf howling and green pigs in ghostly sheets.  Even the jolly Angry Birds polka ditty has been giving a spooky makeover, rounding off a very good addition to an already excellent game.  Sling yourselves over here to take a look.

Gingerbread is Almost Out of the Oven

thumb_550_gingerbread--google Now we know the latest version of Android  is almost here, and how do I know. Well a giant gingerbread man has just arrived at Google’s headquarters is how. Google still hasn’t said a word about the new version of Android, codenamed Gingerbread, but the rumours floating around the internet are saying that Gingerbread will have better media support, speed improvements and a nicer UI. And I presume the arrival of the gingerbread man suggests that we will probably see an announcement of Android 3.0 within the next couple of weeks.

The giant gingerbread model is taking it’s place alongside the éclair, the cupcake, and cone of frozen yogurt. Check the video of the Gingerbread arriving below.

Dell Venue Pro coming to the UK sim free!

dell_venue_pro

Hot of the press this afternoon I have discovered that the Dell Venue Pro will indeed be available to buy sim free here in the UK this year. Clove have been told to expect stock in early November which is a turn up for the books as a lady from Dell told me it would not be in the UK this year.

We will of course have an unboxing video and full review as soon as the device arrives with us. In the meantime if you did not see my hands on video at the Windows Phone launch event you can do so by clicking here.

Please head on over to Clove for more info on the device or look at the pics after the break.

BlackBerry Style officially announced for Sprint in the USA

blackberry-style-press-release

We wont be seeing this one anytime soon here in the UK, if at all. The BlackBerry style is a CDMA device and will be exclusive to Sprint. An acquired taste this one I think.

Over in the States 100 million people use a flip phone so it kind of makes sense for RIM to come up with this design which is there first BlackBerry flip with a full QWERTY on board. The Style is also the first CDMA device to launch with BlackBerry 6.

The BlackBerry Style rocks the 5 megapixel camera found in the Torch and also has GPS and Wi-Fi. 512MB of internal memory are there to power BlackBerry 6 and a 8GB memory card comes in the box for media. You also get a choice of two colours – Steel Gray and Royal Purple.

I would love to get my hands on one of these but I fear that will not happen.

More pictures after the break:

Angry Birds for Android is here and it’s free

angry-birds-218-85 Perennial iPhone favourite, Rovio’s Angry Birds has finally left the beta stage and is now a fully fledged released product for Android handsets.  You’ll need to be on 1.6 or about, be able to run Open GL ES 2.0 and have a display larger than QVGA (320 x 240) and currently it’s only available from getjar.com and Motorola SHOP4APPS.  No word on a release date onto the Android Market but it can’t come soon enough with the getjar page currently down through what I guess to be quite a pounding.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Angry Birds phenomenon, it’s one of those games with a very simple premise but it still offers a good challenge. Best described as an Avian catapult kamakaze simulator with a touch of Worms, the titular birds are somewhat peeved by their eggs being stolen by an up-to-no-good group of pigs – green at that.  The idea is the birds are so angry at this loss, they are prepared to sacrifice their own lives to destroy the flimsy dwellings built by the green pigs (pigs, it appears, just don’t get excel in construction), and to this end the player fires them from a catapult into the birds dwellings to destroy both the pigs inside and the properties outside.  Different birds have different uses – the yellow fast one to barrage through wood to the little blue cluster bird.  It’s clever and requires more thought about gravity than you might imagine.

Angry Birds is one of those games (like Mario) where you feel mistakes are by you and not the game, so you keep on trying.  That, plus its pick-up and play nature makes it a great game, and a total bargain for zero pence.  Now there is no reason to miss it.
