BlackBerry starting to advertise PlayBook software version 2.0 in stores

Screen Shot 2012-02-06 at 18.53.13

N4BB have spotted a rather nice banner advert inside a UK retail store tempting customers to check out the new PlayBook software that is due at some point this month.

As well as a slightly different UI,  PlayBook OS 2.0 will finally bring some native PIM apps with email, calendar, contacts and more.

I am certainly excited. Are you?

Apps Crashing? Apparently you’re not alone

Crit

According to app data reporter/monitor Crittercism iOS crashes more apps than Android. They carried out a study in November and the first two weeks of December 2011 recording over 200 million app launches and recorded the crash data.
Now whilst the overwhelming majority where iOS launches the percentage of crashes per app were higher for iOS than Android.

One important thing to note is that the data shows different versions of both software’s and the one common thing they share is that it would appear newer version suffer more crashes in the first few weeks of launch, this would seem to point that developers are slower to update apps to work effectively with new software versions. Interesting though as they also pointed out not only could some be compatibility but some are hardware related but also dropped connections and Wi-Fi issues.

They do expect a similar pattern to occur in the first few months of Ice Cream Sandwich becoming more widespread just as the crash reports looked at iOS 5.0 and 5.1.

Do you suffer from app crashes on a regular basis?

HTC Refocusing? You bet.

HTC Logo

HTC, the super Taiwanese High Tech Computer company is claiming it’s lost direction last year slightly and are pulling it back in to “refocus”.

According to UK boss Phil Robertson they “ended last year with more products then they started with and tried to do too much”.

They are going to get back to making amazing hardware and adopt the “hero” approach. If this means more products similar to the iconic Hero that was loved and followed then that’s a good move.

I must admit that being a fan of HTC I found it hard to keep up last year with the large number of handsets being released, it was like the design team were on high energy drinks!. The danger of this is that the market place waits to see what your doing next and you quite often miss out to a competitor. One thing many bloggers noted is that they have moved away from is the “one piece” aluminum shells they were gaining a good name for, the last few handsets have gone down the traditional pull off back system.

So what for the future?, well as they now have the majority share in Beats Technology I am sure we can expect some more high end “music” focused handsets along with new smarter version of Sense.

I am sure HTC as a brand has a long life span and will produce many more awesome handsets, they have certainly made their mark in the last three years since own branding.

No Samsung Galaxy S III for MWC

Galaxy-S-IIITechRadar received an official statement from Samsung that the much anticipated Samsung Galaxy S III, Samsung’s successor to the Galaxy S II that turns one year this month, won’t be announced at this month’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The official statement says that  "Samsung is looking forward to introducing and demonstrating exciting new mobile products at Mobile World Congress 2012. The successor to the Galaxy S2 smartphone will be unveiled at a separate Samsung-hosted event in the first half of the year, closer to commercial availability of the product". At this point the real reasons for the announcement-shift are unclear.

Rumours have circled the internet of just what to expect from the Galaxy S III’s load out. More recently we have hear it’s going to launch with ICS, the camera is going to be upgraded and 12MP and it will run with a 1.5GHz-1.6GHz quad-core processor. It all sounds like a dream phone but lets not forget The SII rumours were pretty much spot on.

T-Mobile’s Full Monty data capped!

Screen Shot 2012-02-03 at 21.43.13

We told you earlier this week about T-Mobiles ‘Full Monty’ plan which gives you 2000 Minutes, Unlimited Texts and Unlimited data for £36 per month . Well it would appear that things are not all they seem. Dan at coolsmartphone.com dropped me a message with some rather interesting information that will not go down well with T-Mobile customers.

Data will be capped at 1Mb/s. That is like a snails pace in this day and age.

I suggest hope T-Mobile revise this or ‘The full Monty” may turn out to be "’The Full Flop!’

UPDATED: T-Mobile have today said that there Full Monty speeds will not be capped at 1Mb/s but will ensure the best speeds possible.

A white HTC Sensation incoming?

Sen white

Rumor has it the super fast and highly popular (in black) HTC Sensation is getting a paint job in awesome white (matching with the Sensation XL). It is apparently coming to the UK in March and comes ready packed with the latest Google offering of namely Ice Cream Sandwich. A list of carriers is not yet confirmed but I’m thinking white is the new black for HTC.

HTC has sent out a press release that some of its higher end phones have a potential security issue over Wi-Fi passwords, the fix for most handsets comes in the form of an OTA but some will have to manually done.

HTC said, "HTC has developed a fix for a small Wi-Fi issue affecting some HTC phones. Most phones have received this fix already through regular updates and upgrades. However, some phones will need to have the fix manually loaded. Please check back next week for more information about this fix and a manual download if you need to update your phone."

Affected devices include the Desire HD, Glacier, Droid Incredible, Thunderbolt 4G, Sensation, Sensation 4G, Desire S, Evo 3D and Evo 4D. Keen eyed HTC fans will note that some of these handsets are US only models.
