HTC and Beats Electronics team up

htc-logo-536x357

HTC have announced a new partnership with Beats Electronics, the company redefining the audio market with its iconic Beats by Dr. Dre audio experience.

“The HTC and Beats by Dr. Dre partnership is an opportunity for two world-class companies to redefine the smart phone industry and define the future,” said Jimmy Iovine, Chairman of Beats by Dr. Dre and Chairman and CEO of Interscope Geffen A&M Records which is a division of Universal Music Group and a stakeholder in Beats. “For Beats by Dr. Dre, this represents a critical step in our continued mission to clean up the destruction of audio caused by the digital revolution; and reengineer how sound is delivered so that the consumer feels the music the way that the artist intended.”

HTC and Beats have been working together to create superior mobile audio experiences for consumers, which will result in a line of HTC devices integrated with Beats sound innovations, available this fall.

“Beats has found a unique way to harness popular culture in a manner that is unlike any other brand today,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation. “It’s an exciting brand that has been built around providing something very special, and we believe our strategic partnership will provide customers with unbeatable sound on HTC phones. We obsess over every detail of a consumer’s mobile experience and audio is a critical part of that experience.”

BlackBerry Bold 9900 Review

BlackBerry Bold 9900 ReviewResearch in Motion (RIM) have been getting some pretty heavy criticism recently and it is now time for another flagship device, the Bold 9900.  The previous Bold, the 9780, was just a rehash of the 9700 with a very few improved specs, so it is great to see that things have changed quite a lot with the 9900. Many users of the original Bold, the 9000, loved the device so much due to its size and it looks like RIM have listened to its customers as the new Bold 9900 is very similar with the added bonus of losing the track ball in favour of the track pad and some other great specs including a capacitive touch screen as well as a 1.2 GHz processor.

In North America, BlackBerry sales have been plummeting in with users opting for other platforms such as Android and iOS. That said, worldwide BlackBerry sales are far from doom and gloom. RIM shipped 13.2 million devices in the last quarter which is not bad at all.

There is no doubt that the 9900 will be a huge hit but the big question is will it bring back lost customers to the BlackBerry platform?

Read on to see the full review as well as my thoughts on whether the Bold 9900 can carry RIM through the next year or so as a flagship device.

BlackBerry Bold 9900 Unboxing Video

Screen Shot 2011-08-09 at 16.17.56

I am sure you saw our initial BlackBerry Bold 9900 demo video we did a couple of weeks ago. As you may have noticed, that device was not a retail one and it didn’t come with a box so an unboxing video was impossible. We have now had a retail one for a some time so we thought we had better show you what you get with the device.

The other good news with this second 9900 we have is that the ROM is carrier approved here in the UK, so what you see here on the handset is what you will get when it goes on sale very soon.

You can see the video below and the full review will be live shortly.

The BlackBerry Colt – RIM’s first QNX BlackBerry?

QNXCorpLogo

BGR have today posted that they have received information that RIM’s first QNX Smartphone is due for release in Q1 of 2012 and is codenamed the BlackBerry Colt.

Of course these rumors have not been confirmed by RIM and as we are well aware, timescales very often change so I wouldn’t get too excited just yet. After all, we are still to get our BlackBerry 7 devices so lets enjoy those first.

I understand that one of the delays with QNX Smartphones is the fact that RIM need to re-write BES for QNX and that clearly isn’t done yet or we more than likely would have a native email app on our PlayBooks.

Anyway, we know that QNX is coming but I wouldn’t count your chickens before they hatch.

Orange Film to Go

Screen Shot 2011-08-08 at 09.41.49

We know that Orange are already kind enough to offer us Orange Wednesdays where customers can get into the cinema with a two for one offer. Well now Thursdays are a good movie day too as Orange have launched Film to Go. The new service will enable Orange customers to request a code via SMS, which will allow them to rent a movie from iTunes each Thursday. The movie needs to be watched within 30 days of download and like normal once you start watching the rental will expire after 48 hours.

How cool is that!

Click here to head over to the Orange Film to Go page for further details.

The new BlackBerry Smartphones – Which to choose?

Screen Shot 2011-08-06 at 15.33.30

Unless you have not looked at the internet in the last week or so you will be aware that Research in Motion are launching Three new BlackBerry Smartphones here in the UK in the very near future. All three are running the new version of the Operating System, BlackBerry 7 but the question is which one do you decide to buy.

To make things a little easier I just thought I would post what we know about the new devices in one place. That way comparing them and seeing which one will suit you best will hopefully be made a little easier. Of course, you do not have to rush your decision. We don’t have any confirmed dates for release yet although it is pretty certain to say that the Bold 9900 will be first. Dates are being left up to the carriers here in the UK so I would imagine that some networks will launch before others.

You can see the key features and photos of all three new handsets below:
