It’s easy to take for granted the 3G iPhone’s launch at this point. After all, Steve said it was "coming later this year," as did a number of prominent mobile executives. For Apple watchers, next week will — if rumors are correct — bring a host of reasons to rejoice.
The sold-out Worldwide Developer Conference, or WWDC, happening June 9-13 in San Francisco, is widely expected to be the venue at which company CEO Steve Jobs unveils a second-generation iPhone, a panoply of new applications for the iPhone and iPod Touch, a new MacBook Pro and the next upgrade to OS X, codenamed "Snow Leopard."
Developers wishing to release software applications for the iPhone and iPod touch for free are being encouraged by Apple to charge a fee instead, according to AppleInsider.
People familiar with the iPhone Developer Program initiated in March note that companies and individuals approved for the program are being assigned a liaison, or "development partner," who serves as a resource, offering advice and gathering feedback on plans for applications that will eventually be submitted to upcoming App Store for approval.

Microsoft Corp will focus on improving music in future versions of its Windows Mobile software for mobile phones, an executive told Reuters on Friday. Software giant Microsoft’s mobile communications division provides operating systems for smartphones and other mobile devices based on the Windows Mobile platform.
"One thing that Apple has leveraged on is the music scenario, and I think that that is something the operators and ourselves are partnering on, just to make sure that consumers can use live music in the best way," said Andy Lees, senior vice president of Microsoft’s Mobile Communications Business. He declined to provide any details.
