Engadget have gone through a number of the new features on the device and in the 2.0 software release, but apologies in advance if you’re looking for side by side speed tests (there are some coverage issues where we’re at). Sidekick "2008" pictured

sidekick-2008-gecco There has been a bit of speculation as to what’s in the new Sidekick, as per usual no one can tell. However, Engadget Mobile has manage to grab a picture of it. I like the Sidekick, however, like the iPhone and Treo it’s always been one step behind the most recent features. I hope this time around the Gecco/Gekko/2008 will pack in all in an become a phone that most will desire.

Toshiba Portege G910 review at Pocketnow

toshiba-g910-thumb Pocketnow finally do the review of the Toshiba Portege G910. This was a phone I was very interested as I appreciated the form factor a great deal. Sadly the phone seems to have its problems and merely receives a medocre review.

O2 = Disgrace

image Just got off the phone to O2 customer service who couldn’t find my order, then they found it, then they told me the iPhone was out of stock then they told me I would definitely be receiving it tomorrow. I put the phone down content as much as possible that I would be receiving the phone tomorrow only to receive a SMS message 5 minutes later telling me I would be receiving the iPhone before the 18th July as they were out of stock. My order was placed at 8.03am on Monday. O2 state that the iPhones were sold on a first come first served basis, if this is true how come people ordering hours after me now have confirmation that they will receive their iPhone tomorrow. This whole thing is a disgrace and O2 should be ashamed of the way this whole saga has been handled, Apple should reconsider this exclusive agreement as it is clear O2 are not capable of handling it properly.

App Store launching with 500 iPhone applications, 25% free

image Steve Jobs told USA Today that the Apple App Store will launch with "more than 500" applications Thursday night for the iPhone and iPod touch. Of these, 25% will be free and 90% will cost $9.99 or less. "This is the biggest launch of my career," said Jobs, adding, "When IBM introduced the PC, it was good, but it didn’t take off until people started discovering the software." It’s these apps then, that Steve says will "dramatically differentiates the iPhone" from Treos and BlackBerrys. Indeed, while consumers are focused on the launch of the iPhone 3G device, it’s the App Store which has analysts in such a tizzy.

Anyway there is a video showing the iPhones arriving at an AT&T store in America and they are definitely getting them at launch, they also come in a different white box to suit. Hand-held lie detector running Windows Mobile

image The Pentagon will issue hand-held lie detectors this month to U.S. Army soldiers in Afghanistan, pushing to the battlefront a century-old debate over the accuracy of the polygraph. The Defense Department says the portable device isn’t perfect, but is accurate enough to save American lives by screening local police officers, interpreters and allied forces for access to U.S. military bases, and by helping narrow the list of suspects after a roadside bombing.
