Having switched from Windows Mobile to the iPhone nearly one year ago to the day I have been waiting for a device with a similar form factor without all the restrictions and frustrations that an Apple device brings along with it. Sure the iPhone does a fantastic job at making usability simple but with it comes a straight jacketed approach that really frustrates me. Welcome to the HTC Touch HD, can it live up to all the hype, is it really the device that can pull me away from the iPhone 3G and condemn it to my sock draw, read on to find out.
The folks over at Pocketnow have published a rather middling review of the T-Mobile G1. I spent a little time with this phone in the store yesterday and have to admit I felt it was a half baked offering. I may be be spoilt by the features available to a Windows Mobile user. In the months to come I hope the phone will have had several major updates as this is a work in progress.
“In talking about Windows Mobile 6.5, Steve Ballmer did not go in to specifics but did hint at an improvement in the interface and flow of the software. It is believed, however, that this will be the first release to contain the reported Zune software integration instead of the much delayed Windows Mobile 7 release. Though there was no specific date given for Windows Mobile 7, it was believed to be scheduled for as late as the third quarter of 2010, two years away.”
The European half of Sony Ericsson, Ericsson AB, has huge plans for mobile phones in the next couple of years. Does a 20-megapixel camera with full HD video recording capabilities, XGA 1024×768 screen resolution 1 GHz processor and LTE connectivity sound interesting enough for you?
Not really one for unboxing videos however the Touch HD really is such an exciting device I decided to do one. I have done a quick unboxing along with a look around the hardware and finally a quick look at the software side too. First impressions are excellent and the screen is simply stunning. Thanks to Clove also for getting this device out to me so quickly. Full review to follow after a few days of use, any questions about the device leave them in the comments and I will answer them. Video after the break.

3 the UK 3G network are rumoured to be ready to announce a new handset after the success of it’s Skype Phone. The phone, manufactured by INQ (Hutchinson Whampoa’s new handset making division), will basically be based on Facebook, meaning that we’ll be seeing unified contacts, texting through messages and IM through Facebook chat. The phone itself, the INQ1 (as it’s the company’s first handset, the name makes sense), is a fairly basic slider, though it carries an HSDPA connection for super-fast network speeds.
Coolsmartphone have got hold of the new HTC Touch 3G and posted a couple of videos to see what this device is all about. The videos will give you a tour around the handset, a look at the GPS in action, Opera browser, TouchFLO interface, where the SIM and microSD cards live and a lot more. We have them right after the break and it does look like a nice device if your after something smaller than the Touch HD.

The Xperia X1 is a new phone from Sony Ericsson powered by Windows Mobile 6.1. It has amazing build quality and is smaller than I expected from seeing the press shots and other reviews. For me this device is for keeps and I am very happy for it to replace my HTC Touch Diamond and keep me away from iPhone 2G.
Full review after the break.
