At long last Samsung have seen sense and announced that the i780 front facing QWERTY Windows Mobile Professional device will be getting an update to Windows Mobile 6.1. When we reviewed this device it was excellent and the only thing stopping me from buying it was that there was no update to 6.1. Now that has changed this will be my Windows Mobile device of choice. They state that the i780 will be available with 6.1 from November as part of the BizBee branding.
Fusion Voicemail Plus is out for the Android G1 for USA users. Michael Manna gives us a step by step overview on how to setup your voicemail and finally keep up with those iPhone users who are enjoying visual voicemail. Spb Software created an Spb Mobile Shell-powered touch screen interface for O2 Xda Zest. Designed exclusively for O2’s latest Xda handset, the ‘O2 Menu’ helps to make the device ideal for those subscribers new to the Xda phones. The O2 Menu is carefully fitted to O2’s style and brand, and is integrated with the built-in Opera Mobile, for seamless Internet browsing. The new O2 Xda Zest is expected to encourage the conventional handset users to switch over to the more powerful Xda smartphones. Screenshots after the break.
VITO Technology have released Winterface 1.2 – mobile shell for Windows Mobile devices. Winterface greatly improves the default Windows Mobile interface by making it more customizable, finger-friendly, and functional. Since its release Winterface has proven to be very popular among WM users. Winterface gives Windows Mobile users unlimited freedom to customize. They can place icons to applications, settings, contacts, files, and favorite web sites to access any of them with one tap. Most important icons also show actual information, like number of unread text messages, missed calls, scheduled event, active phone profiles and much more.
Sony Ericsson has just launched the latest panels for its multimedia convergence phone, the Xperia™ X1, teaming up with the popular social networking site Facebook and Microsoft Windows Live. These web-centric panels come in addition to the existing connectivity panel from Dashwire, a site which allows you to sync your phone content to the web and share it to a range of popular social networking sites.
Riding in the wake of the successful Diamond and Touch Pro comes the rather uninspiringly titled S740. It’s not easy to understand why HTC have opted for this configuration however it’s here and it’s very much worth having a look at.
As Skyfire is now in public beta we decided to shoot up a short video showing the browser in action. You can see how web pages look and we also take a look at YouTube videos and JibJab in a browser windows. Check out the video after the break of this highly impressive browser.
If you have been frustrated by the closed private beta of the Skyfire web browser the good news is it is now open to everyone, well officially they say US, Canada, and UK, although you might be able to use Skyfire outside the US, Canada and UK, their focus is providing the best user experience for their active countries. Using Skyfire outside these countries is at your own discretion. Currently Skyfire runs on two phone platforms. Windows Mobile and Symbian S60 (3rd edition). Skyfire is a great browser that supports flash so viewing Youtube videos and other flash sites in your browser is now a reality. Since the launch of the Blackberry Storm there has been a lot stories floating around about a laggy OS amongst other things. Some reports suggest that the firmware was downgraded at the last minute to overcome these problems, seems strange that these problems are only mentioned on the US Verizon version not the Vodafone UK version. Mobility Today think very highly of the device and have produced a video showing the OS in action where you can make your own mind up if it is laggy or not, personally after watching it, it doesn’t seem too bad.
