BBC iPlayer on the iPhone

image There is no application as yet to allow you to watch any content from the BBC’s iPlayer website it is not a problem. If you actually visit the website within the iPhones Safari browser you can actually watch all the content without a problem. The videos on the iPlayer site, when selected, open up and play through the iPhones inbuilt Quicktime video player. It works really well and the quality is great too. You have to be in the UK though to enjoy it due to licensing. Video of it in action after the break.

Wide Email application for iPhone

image As you are no doubt aware the iPhone cannot be used in landscape mode to compose emails which is another strange quirk that we are waiting for Apple to address. Until that time we have seen various applications that can help. One such application is Wide Email which gives you this functionality but more importantly also gives you short cuts for well used phrases or words. For example I can program the letters mta and the keyboard will automatically type Mobile Tech Addicts. Take a look at the video after the break to see how well this application works.

iPhone overtakes Windows Mobile

image Q3 2008 saw Apple’s only current smartphone, the iPhone 3G, outsell the numerous devices based on the Windows Mobile platform not only in the USA but on a worldwide scale. Despite the global financial crisis the smartphone market share is still growing (though at a slower pace than last year) and territories are being remapped. Amazon MP3 store now available in the UK

image Amazon has finally launched their UK MP3 store. If you don’t want to be hooked into iTunes DRM you now have a viable option. Single tracks range in price from 59p to 80p, and albums start from £3.00 up to £10. You can download songs direct from the site, or you can install a program which allows you to download more than one song at time and download entire albums. The Amazon MP3 store is DRM free so once you have bought a track you can have it on any device you wish, they are compatible with iTunes so this maybe a good route for iPod and iPhone users too. Don’t expect a selection as big as iTunes yet but it will come with time. Take a look here.

Meizu M8 reviewed in Chinese (translated)

1257013 There is now a translated review of the Meizu M8. It is extremely thorough and if you are not totally put off by the pigeon English translation then its worth a read. Not only does it look like the iPhone but the UI seems to be rather similar but is apparently Windows CE 6.0n albeit heavily redesigned. If this is ever released outside Asia I would imagine that there would be a great deal of confusion. That said, the device is given top marks!
