Asus EEE Pad Transformer review

IMG_2707Of all the Android tablets out at the moment, the Asus Transformer is the most notable. So called for it’s ability to turn into something of an Android netbook with an attachable keyboard. Can it break loose from the mediocrity off Android tablets so far? Could this be the closest thing we have at the moment to an iPad alternative or is it a modestly price clunk-a-tron with an interesting peripheral?

Documents to Go on the BlackBerry Bold 9900 – Video

docs-to-go-icon

In the olden days it was only business people that use a BlackBerry. Those days are now gone but the new BlackBerry Bold 9900 now comes with a fantastic business application that will come in handy for both business users and us normal people.

Documents to Go comes pre-loaded on the BlackBerry Bold 9900. It is designed to allow you to open, edit, save, or create new documents including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files on your BlackBerry Smartphone. When you need to make one small change to that report, or a colleague is asking for you to review a presentation, you can make changes quickly and efficiently while on the go. Good eh?

I have recorded a short demo video that you can see below:

The Motorola Fire – Pre order

moto fire

Clove have let us know today that the first stock of the Motorola Fire is due to land late September and will be priced at £180 + VAT. At the moment they are only expecting the keyboard version of the FIRE to be available SIM-free and are unlikely to stock the touch screen only version, the XT531 Fire, but that doesn’t mean to say that it won’t be available via the mobile networks.

You can head over to the Clove website for more details. For the time being, here’s a look at its main features:

  • Front Facing QWERTY keyboard
  • Android 2.3 (Gingerbread)
  • 2.8″ Touch screen
  • 3MP Camera
  • Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth
  • 3G
  • 1420mAh Battery

Looks pretty nice if you ask me.

HTC and Beats Electronics team up

htc-logo-536x357

HTC have announced a new partnership with Beats Electronics, the company redefining the audio market with its iconic Beats by Dr. Dre audio experience.

“The HTC and Beats by Dr. Dre partnership is an opportunity for two world-class companies to redefine the smart phone industry and define the future,” said Jimmy Iovine, Chairman of Beats by Dr. Dre and Chairman and CEO of Interscope Geffen A&M Records which is a division of Universal Music Group and a stakeholder in Beats. “For Beats by Dr. Dre, this represents a critical step in our continued mission to clean up the destruction of audio caused by the digital revolution; and reengineer how sound is delivered so that the consumer feels the music the way that the artist intended.”

HTC and Beats have been working together to create superior mobile audio experiences for consumers, which will result in a line of HTC devices integrated with Beats sound innovations, available this fall.

“Beats has found a unique way to harness popular culture in a manner that is unlike any other brand today,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation. “It’s an exciting brand that has been built around providing something very special, and we believe our strategic partnership will provide customers with unbeatable sound on HTC phones. We obsess over every detail of a consumer’s mobile experience and audio is a critical part of that experience.”

BlackBerry Bold 9900 Review

BlackBerry Bold 9900 ReviewResearch in Motion (RIM) have been getting some pretty heavy criticism recently and it is now time for another flagship device, the Bold 9900.  The previous Bold, the 9780, was just a rehash of the 9700 with a very few improved specs, so it is great to see that things have changed quite a lot with the 9900. Many users of the original Bold, the 9000, loved the device so much due to its size and it looks like RIM have listened to its customers as the new Bold 9900 is very similar with the added bonus of losing the track ball in favour of the track pad and some other great specs including a capacitive touch screen as well as a 1.2 GHz processor.

In North America, BlackBerry sales have been plummeting in with users opting for other platforms such as Android and iOS. That said, worldwide BlackBerry sales are far from doom and gloom. RIM shipped 13.2 million devices in the last quarter which is not bad at all.

There is no doubt that the 9900 will be a huge hit but the big question is will it bring back lost customers to the BlackBerry platform?

Read on to see the full review as well as my thoughts on whether the Bold 9900 can carry RIM through the next year or so as a flagship device.

BlackBerry Bold 9900 Unboxing Video

Screen Shot 2011-08-09 at 16.17.56

I am sure you saw our initial BlackBerry Bold 9900 demo video we did a couple of weeks ago. As you may have noticed, that device was not a retail one and it didn’t come with a box so an unboxing video was impossible. We have now had a retail one for a some time so we thought we had better show you what you get with the device.

The other good news with this second 9900 we have is that the ROM is carrier approved here in the UK, so what you see here on the handset is what you will get when it goes on sale very soon.

You can see the video below and the full review will be live shortly.
