Samsung Galaxy Ace review

Samsung Galaxy Ace reviewSamsung have already put out countless Galaxy branded phones, most notably the super popular Galaxy S. Running with the popularity of the Galaxy brand name, the newest edition (also known as the S8530) has just been pushed to shelves. Although it may be newer, the Galaxy Ace technically slots in below the Galaxy S, looking to cater for the fierce mid-range smartphone market. Despite having a middling price tag, the Ace stacks up quite favourably in the specs department – an 800MHz processor underneath a 3.5 inch HVGA touchscreen, 5MP camera and Android 2.2 is already sounding good.

Despite being yet another Android phone, it does look to be a hidden gem in the sea of droids currently available and with it’s reasonable pricing, will it continue the Galaxy trend by selling in droves?
Read on to find out.

Motorola Atrix Coming Soon to Orange

Screen shot 2011-04-05 at 08.02.43

The Motorola Atrix has now appeared on the Orange website and is listed as coming soon. Historically this could mean the Atrix is available on the network from a day to many weeks so don’t get too excited just yet.

The Atrix comes with a dual core processor however I cant see this mentioned on the Orange site which baffles me slightly as you would have thought that with so many Android phones on the market both Motorola and Orange may want to mention this to help sales. Oh well.

There is also no mention of if Orange will sell the laptop dock that you can buy as an accessory.

If you missed our demo video of the Atrix you can watch it here and there is also a reminder of its specification below.

Acer tablets up for preorder on Amazon

ScreenClipAcer’s Iconia Tab A500 10" and A100 7" tablets have shown up for pre-order on Amazon UK, for £449.99 and £299.99 respectively. Amazon has a release date of April 20.
The 7" A100 looks to be the first 7" Android 3.0 Honeycomb equipped tablet to be shipping. Both tablets are listed with Nvidia Tegra 2 Cortex A9 dual-core processors. The 7" A100 has only 512MB of RAM and 8GB onboard storage to go with the significantly smaller form-factor, though it is expected to have a nice WSVGA (1024×600) display. The 10" A500 looks to be the usual 1280×800 display with 1GB RAM for Honeycomb devices. It shall also ship with 32GB of onboard storage Both tablets are wifi-only tablets that also come with Bluetooth connectivity.
Acer Android products have seen limited success compared to the likes of HTC and Motorola in the past. Their lack of support and history poor response to GPL source code requests does not bode well with the end-users, despite their competitive pricing schemes.

New version of the Sony Ericsson X10 Mini Pro pics appear

sony-xperia-x10-mini-pro-2-successorSony Ericsson will soon be launching a new smaller devices with a keyboard. Another crop of images have surfaced showing what looks to be the successor to the X10 Mini Pro. Things look pretty much like they always have, but these new shots confirm they’ll be sticking with a rendition of their custom overlay used on the first generation of Xperia devices (which differs from what’s on the Arc and Play) and will have Android 2.3 Gingerbread at launch. Perhaps this is why Sony Ericsson only announced the 2.3 upgrade for the X10.

Importing video in to iMovie for iPad – how to video

imovie_ipad_gallery1_20110302 Since the iPad 2 was announced a little over a month ago one of the things I was most looking forward to using was iMovie for iPad 2. iMovie was demonstrated at the iPad 2 press event and it looked like it would be an ideal way for me to do video editing while out ‘on the road’ as I’m frequently at various product launches recording video but to get the video edited while away from home requires me to take along my Macbook a well as my camera and cables etc. iMovie on the iPad looked like it might be a great way to bridge the gap while still enabling me to travel light.

So I started to play with iMovie last weekend and frankly I was instantly disappointed! I record almost all of my videos on a Sanyo XACTI camcorder, the video quality is good, the cameras are nice and small and recording to SD card makes life easy. So I put the SD card in to the camera connection kit for the iPad and plugged it in.

It takes only a few seconds for the thumbnails of the recorded videos to appear and just a little longer to import the video in to the iPad. Once the videos are imported I can see them in the recent imports and they playback quite happily on the iPad itself. The frustration starts when you launch iMovie and cant see the videos you’ve just imported!

WP7 first impressions from an Android user

HTC-Mozart

The other day I lent my Windows Phone 7 device to a friend of mine as he was interested in checking out the platform for the first time and even toying with the idea of developing apps for it. 24 hours later he sent me the below comments detailing his first impressions and I thought that they were worth sharing with you on the off chance you are thinking of trying WP7 yourself.
