Today is the day a lot of iPhone fans here in the UK have been waiting for – The release of the iPhone on Orange. And I’m not surprised that the sales of the iPhone have been humongous!

Our friend Conor from orange told us this:
- Orange are delighted to reveal, that as of 4pm today Orange had sold more than 30,000 iPhones across the UK – smashing what we believe is the previously published first day sales records for a handset in the UK
- At the same time, Orange’s first ever exclusive UK app – Orange Wednesdays – has gone to the top slot in the Entertainment Category, and hit second place in the free apps chart on the Apple App Store. The app combines the latest film reviews and trailers with up to date info on what’s on, where films are showing, information on how to get there and the ability to redeem the 2-for-1 Orange Wednesdays cinema voucher on your Orange iPhone.
- Orange’s 3G mobile network covers more people in the UK than any other, and is currently the focus of our recently launched £multi-million pound advertising campaign, which from today features the iPhone, entitled ‘You’re Covered’.
These figures are sure to keep climbing day after day and I would imagine that Vodafone will be doing everything in their power to get their iPhone in the shops as soon as possible.

3 has reported Orange to the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) over its claims of having the largest high-speed mobile network. Orange, which launched the iPhone on its network today, claimed that it has a 3G network covering 93% of the population – but 3 said this claim is misleading and confusing for customers.
3 has been carrying out work across its network recently and is currently working in the London area to improve coverage. It has 9,192 sites in comparison to Orange’s 7,500 3G masts and claims to be adding 150 sites a week. 3 complained that if it applied a ‘different measure’ it would be able to claim 95% coverage and said it would like a third party to measure the level of 3G coverage to provide a ‘realistic’ picture for consumers.
Orange told the Times that it was ‘not how many masts you have’, but ‘where you stick them’.
Orange has released a little bit of information regarding their release of the iPhone. A rather successful first day.

It looks like Admob have agreed to sell to google. Admob is used by many developers on not only Android but iphone. Clearly google are now seriously entering into the mobile advertising market in a major way.

Who’d have thought that O2 would be offering a legitamte unlocking service for the iPhone after all. This should please a fair few folks out there as they will slip in their Vodafone/Orange sims and see the signal rise. You obviously have to ride out the O2 contracts and who knows, this may ease conjestion on O2’s network as some may opt for a different carrier most of the time. Details after the break:
O2 announces the iPhone Total Connectivity Bolt On, which allows new and existing iPhone customers to purchase the iPhone Internet Tethering bolt-on and receive the standard O2 Home Broadband package completely free.
Pay Monthly iPhone customers who purchase the discounted £9.79 per month 3GB Internet Tethering Bolt On before 31 December 2009 will be entitled to the O2 Home Broadband standard package for free. The service means users can stay totally connected and get the best connection possible, whether at home or out and about on their phone or laptop.
The 3GB Internet Tethering and O2 Home Broadband package is available for just £9.79 per month and will be compatible with all versions of the Apple iPhone 3G. Alternatively, customers can claim a £7.34pm discount against any other O2 Home Broadband product including Premium, Pro or O2 Home Broadband Access.

Vodafone is going to be doing a new phone called the Apple iPhone 3Gs. This is a phone that has made a bit of noise over the last couple of years, but no one could blame you if you haven’t heard of it before.
In this press release oddly hosted by Cheetahmail.com you can read but not pre-order. Instead there is a link to the Vodafone Access Gateway and you can give Vodafone some ideas about their approach to the iPhone.
