Nokia Lumia 1520 unboxing video

lumia-1520Nokia have managed to produce an extremely popular range of Windows Phone devices with the Lumia brand and the Lumia 1020 certainly drew a lot of attention last year when that launched with its whopping 40MP camera.

Eager to break in to that interesting “phablet” market, Nokia announced the Lumia 1520 late in 2013. Since then the 1520 has turned out to be pretty popular for those wishing to combine the size of a tablet with the functionality of a phone while not wanting to carry two devices.

The Nokia Lumia 1520 has a glorious 6-inch full HD IPS LCD screen that really does look the business. Couple that with the 2.2GHz quad-core CPU, 2GB RAM and 16GB of on-board storage, the specification starts to add up and throwing in a 20MP camera doesn’t hurt either!

As always, I’m kicking off with the unboxing and hands-on video before we crack on with the review.

Special thanks to Clove Technology for our review unit.

In addition the 929 is expected to feature a 5-inch, 1080p display, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage and a Snapdragon 800 processor, and the same 20MP camera found on other Nokia Windows Phone models. Nokia Lumia 1020 Review

nokia lumia 1020 reviewSince Nokia began their partnership with Microsoft back in 2011 the Finnish company have fast become the number one manufacturer of Windows Phone 8 devices. This seems to have put other manufacturers off as at the moment there are only a select few other companies who have Windows Phone 8 devices on the market (HTC, Huawei, Samsung respectively). This could of course be down to the sheer amount of quality smartphones that Nokia have in the marketplace, but its more likely to be that Nokia Windows devices have extra features/functions compared to all others – or just the influence Microsoft now has since it purchased Nokia’s phone business.

Nokia do seem have fought super hard for Windows Phone 8 to try and make the operating system and them as a company succeed once again. The results so far have been quite positive for both parties but it could still be better as it still stands some way behind Android and iOS, but could Nokia release a game changing device to make consumers choose the Windows Phone 8 platform? Could Nokia release a smartphone with a spectacular camera, the likes which we’ve only ever seen once before on their own Nokia Pureview 808? Well, they’ve released what they believe to be the answer – the Nokia Lumia 1020 with its astonishingly high pixel count of 41 in a Carl Zeiss lens with full Xenon flash to accompany it!

To find out how the Lumia 1020 fares in the current market and to have all of your questions about the device answered I suggest reading on through my review and all will be revealed. Hopefully you will have already seen Matt’s Unboxing video of the Lumia 1020 but if you haven’t click the link so that you have a better idea of what to expect when reading the Nokia Lumia 1020 Review

Nokia announces Lumia 1320, Lumia 1520 and Lumia 2520

Nokia-lumia-2520Nokia World 2013 is now in full swing in Abu Dhabi and things have started off with something of a bang as Nokia have announced 3 new devices right of the bat.

Starting with the Lumia 1520 and 1320, both 6″ Windows Phone 8 devices, and also the much anticipated Nokia Lumia 2520 Windows RT Tablet.

For the most part it has been a case of confirming most of what we had already heard about each product.

The Lumia 1520 will have a 6 inch full HD screen, quad-core snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB RAM, 20 MP PureView camera and come with either 16 or 32GB of on-board storage.

As for the Lumia 1320 you’ll find a 6 inch 720p resolution IPS display, Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core 1.7GHz with just 1GB of RAM and a rather cut-down 5MP camera.

Arguably the most exciting to be announced though is the Lumia 2520 tablet device. Whilst technically not the first tablet device from Nokia, the N700 and N800’s came way before,  it will be the first that we’ve seen from Nokia to be of what we now commonly consider a tablet format. The 10.1-inch Windows RT tablet will have a 1920×1080 pixel resolution display and have a similar design to the other Lumia devices and will also be just 9mm thick.

Full specs of each new product will follow soon.

Nokia Lumia 1520 leaked

nokia_lumia_1520The mobile industry seems to be full of leaks at the moment and there’s more today for the rumoured Nokia Lumia 1520 aka ‘Bandit’.

We’ve seen previous leaks about upcoming Nokia devices and a few weeks ago we heard that Nokia would be releasing 6 or so new devices at Nokia World on the 22nd October. It’s possible that one of these new devices could be the 1520 phablet device.

Once again the notorious tweeter, @evleaks, has released the main specification of the Nokia Lumia 1520 citing that it will have a 6 inch full HD screen, quad-core snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB RAM, 20 MP camera and come with either 16 or 32GB of onboard storage. @evleaks also says that the device will come in black, white and yellow although other leaked images claiming to be of the 1520 have shown the device clad in blue.

The 1520 is also expected to feature the Qi compliant wireless charging technology. Qi, developed by the Wireless Power Consortium for inductive electrical power transfer over distances of up to 4 cm.

Also expected to be announced this week is the Lumia 2520.

Perhaps the most interesting though is the long-awaited Nokia tablet, code-named “Sirius,” that is also expected to be announced alongside this raft of new smartphones. This is likely to be called the Nokia Lumia 2520, and will take the form of a 10.1-inch Windows RT device.

Tuesday is going to be a very busy news day with announcements coming from Nokia World, Apple, Google and Microsoft. Have I missed anyone?

We’ll be here with the news as we get it.

Nokia Lumia 1020 unboxing video

Nokia Lumia 1020 unboxingSince its announcement in July of this year, the Nokia Lumia 1020 has created quite a stir. There’s pretty much only one reason for this; the 41 megapixel camera.

At 41 megapixels (38MP effective) not only is the sensor on the Nokia Lumia 1020 the highest pixel count on a mobile phone, but it’s among the highest pixel counts of any camera on the market and even many high-end Digital SLR cameras don’t go that high.

So what of the rest of the 1020, have there been huge compromises elsewhere in order to accommodate that huge sensor? On the face of the answer is no. The rest of the phone specification seems to be pretty good too with a large AMOLED screen, 1.5GHz quad-core CPU, 2GB RAM and a host of other to of the line features, if there are compromises it’s not that obvious.

In the unboxing video below you’ll get to see what accessories come with the Lumia 1020, have a tour around the hardware and I’ll take a look at the OS as well as having a quick play with that amazing camera.

Nokia Tablet Launch on October 22?

Nokia Tablet on its way?Nokia have been in the news quite a lot recently with Microsoft buying their mobile unit and the popularity of the Lumia 1020, could it be that Nokia are beginning to bounce back?

The answer could well be yes if the Wall Street Journal’s sources are to be believed. According to them, Nokia will be releasing 6 new Lumia phones, running Windows Phone 8 and possible some other more entry level S40 based devices.

Perhaps the most interesting though is the long-awaited Nokia tablet, code-named “Sirius,” that is also expected to be announced alongside this raft of new smartphones. This is likely to be called the Nokia Lumia 2520, and will take the form of a 10.1-inch Windows RT device.

The product blitz to be unveiled in Abu Dhabi Oct. 22, will include several Lumia smart devices that run Microsoft’s Windows phone platform, and lower-end devices based on Nokia’s S40 software, these people said. Nokia’s first tablet device will also debut, and will run Windows 8 software.

This news come just days after Microsoft’s Surface 2 announcement and is expected to cost around the same as the current Apple iPad models but with the new iPad 5 expected to be announced soon too Nokia may have a tough time realising the sales potential of the Lumia 2520.
