Samsung Electronics Co. UK Ltd, the UK’s number one TV brand with the most awarded TV range, today announces Netflix, the global internet subscription service for films and TV programmes, as the latest partner for its Smart TV App store, Samsung Apps. People who log on to the Netflix website (www.netflix.com) today can start a free, one month trial of Netflix to instantly watch unlimited films and TV programmes streamed over the Internet to their Samsung Smart TV, PC or mobile devices.
The Netflix App, which is currently available on Samsung’s D7000 and D8000 Smart TV series (and in the coming months on 2012 Smart TV and Blu-ray players), will give viewers instant and unlimited access to tens of thousands of great films and TV programmes including recent big screen hits like The Expendables, popular US series such as 24 and 90210, previous full seasons of UK favourites including The Only Way is Essex, Top Gear and The Inbetweeners plus a wide-range of documentaries, art house films and film classics ranging from The Princess Bride to The 39 Steps.
More films and TV programmes will be added regularly, where Samsung Smart TV users can instantly select and play films and TV programmes for the monthly price of just £5.99 without any contracts or commitments.
Guy Kinnell, Marketing Director for TV, Samsung UK said: “Our partnership with Netflix is the latest in our commitment to deliver a variety of top-quality video services to our customers. With multiple methods of payment available across our raft of entertainment Apps, the new Netflix Smart TV App provides significant value to viewers who love movies and TV.
With thousands of hours of entertainment across Hollywood blockbusters to local TV programmes, people can enjoy a seamless cinema-like experience via the true-to-life picture quality and revolutionary product design of their Smart TV and, soon on their Blu-ray players.”
“Samsung Smart TVs will offer Netflix members in the UK a great streaming experience with an amazing variety of films and TV programmes streamed over the Internet from Netflix directly to their TV,” said Greg Peters, vice president of product development at Netflix.
Netflix will join an ever-growing collection of services available on Samsung Smart TVs such as BBC iPlayer, YouTube, Teletext Holidays, Rightmove, Thomson Local, Facebook and Twitter giving viewers a huge choice of content for the television. ‘Samsung Apps’ is the first and biggest App store available for TVs, with over 10 million Apps already downloaded worldwide, proof that consumers are rapidly embracing the Smart TV format.
Samsung Smart TVs have a Smart Hub that opens up content from specially designed Apps, the internet and other access points directly from the TV. The Smart TV also acts as the entertainment hub for the home as it connects wirelessly to other devices such as smartphones, laptops or tablets so users can show photos or stream music on the big screen.
