Orange to have iPhone 3G?

There have been a couple of rumours doing the rounds over the past few weeks to the effect of the above. But just a short while ago we had an email from a tipster that says he’s just had a call with Orange upgrades and they confirmed that Orange will get the iphone 3G and the original iPhone but not 3GS in about 6 weeks. He said this had been confirmed by his sales manager.

Now if this is true it’s an interesting turn of events. We’ll keep you posted!

Thanks for the tip Karl!

Sony Ericsson Bao Leaked

The internet today seems to be filled with leaked shots of handsets and now its the turn of Sony Ericsson with their handset codenamed Sony Ericsson Bao.

The Bao is a clamshell that not only looks like a Rubik’s Cube, but is almost as thick as one, ok maybe a slight exaggeration there but it certainly aint a phone on a diet.

bao0 bao2 bao3

Sony must have spent all its creative juices on its pair of touchscreen beauties, the Sony Ericsson Satio and Aino, because the Sony Ericsson Bao certainly isn’t so swish.

Oh, and if you were wondering, no it’s not just you, the Sony Ericsson Bao is a carbon copy of the Nokia Prism.

There are no known specs for the Sony Ericsson Bao just yet other than there being a camera lens on the back, but the screen is about the size of a postage stamp, so don’t expect this to be the Sony Ericsson Android phone we’re all eagerly awaiting.

Samsung Omnia II Rumour

For those of you desperate to get your hands Samsung’s upcoming Omnia II here is some very interesting news for you.

Samsung Omia II

rosoft’s Austrian website (hope you can read German) suggests that the phone will go straight to Windows Mobile 6.5 bypassing the now tired looking WM6.1.

I’m pretty sure that this is welcomed news not only for Samsung fans but for Windows Mobile fans also.

Orange to release the HTC Hero?

Well rumour has it that Orange UK has won exclusive rights to the new Google Android phone, dubbed the HTC Hero.

HTC’s new Android phone will come with HSDPA connectivity, bluetooth, and a 3-megapixel camera and will be Orange’s first Android-powered phone.

Vodafone have already snapped up the exclusivity of the second Android powered phone, the HTC Magic, which was launched in on 1 May. The first Google Android phone, the G1, was launched exclusively by T-Mobile in October last year. The handset was also made by HTC. The HTC Hero is targeted for an August launch in the US, but a UK release date has not yet been confirmed.

Sources at HTC and Orange would neither confirm nor deny the rumour which, in my opinion, is confirmation in itself!

More news as we get it.

Rumour: Motorola W7 Leaked

The masters of weird devices have struck again, this time in the shape of the Motorola W7 handset.

I’m sure you will all agree that it’s a pretty weird looking device with its elongated D-pad and rather poor choice of colours.

Rumour has it that it will have a QVGA screen and EDGE support. From the leaked photos, it’s clear that it will have a 2 megapixel camera with neither flash, nor even a self-portrait mirror.

moto w7 moto w7 side moto w7 back
Not the prettiest is it?

As for the colours, well see for yourselves. That yellow needs to go.

There are two other keys on the front besides the soft keys and call keys. Presumably, they have some sports-related functionality but it’s not clear what exactly right now. It will be nice if it’s something in the spirit of Nokia Sports Tracker – an app that uses GPS to track your jogging, running or cycling workouts. Or at least put some goodies in the retail box – an armband for example.

Anyway, no word on release date or pricing yet. We’ll keep you posted about that and any changes in the colour scheme that may come up.

The W518a Walkman handset supports HSDPA 3G data on the 850 and 1900MHz frequency bands as also features quad-band GSM/EDGE support. The W518a has both a small external display as well as a larger internal one that is expected to have QVGA (240×320 pixel) resolution. The outside of the flip houses external music controls and the phone also features an FM radio, M2 memory card support, and the Walkman music player on-board. We won’t know availability and pricing information until the phone is officially announced.

One of the latest pieces of info to appear on these 2 handsets is that  they are both being lined up for a July release on T-Mobile.

Snap Front and Back
HTC Snap

From what we can gather it seems that the HTC Touch Pro 2 will be renamed Wing II and be released on July 22nd whilst the Snap will remain Snap and be released on July 1st.

Obviously this is all subject to change but we thought it was interesting enough to share with the masses.

Rumour: Samsung i8910 to go all out to beat iPhone

It pretty much seems that Samsung are doing all in their power these days to beat of not match the iPhone. The South Korean mobile phone manufacturer is now reportedly readying a new iPhone rival which would be a bit better than the Omnia and may be the first non-Nokia phone to use the Symbian S60 5th edition for touchscreen handsets.

Samsung i8910
Samsung i8910 (Acme)

According to reports, the Samsung phone will be named as either the i8910 or Acme. So far all we can tell you is that it will have a very thin form factor, a powerful eight megapixel camera capable of HD video recording, and support for HDMI video output.

Like the iPhone, the Samsung phone will be released in two variants, an 8GB and a 16GB version with WIFI and GPS.

Will it beat or damage iPhone sales? I very much doubt it as the Apple brand is far too strong and with nearly all of the iPhone users have and i something else there will be very little any other company can do to touch them.

As soon as we here more we will post the info.

Rumour: Samsung S8300 Slips Past Us

It looks like Samsung are lining up a really nice cameraphone for us this year. Although not officially announced by Samsung the S8300 looks like it will fit straight into the 8MP camera phone market and hold it’s own.

Samsung S8300 1

At only 12.8mm thick, the Samsung S8300 has an absolutely massive widescreen OLED display, probably the largest one we’ve seen to date, and the fact that it’s a touchscreen, makes it that much sweeter.

Samsung S8300 3

The S8300 specs sheet is further pumped up by an 8 megapixel camera with auto focus, a GPS receiver, HSDPA and DivX video support.

Samsung S8300 4

Judging from the interface shots, the handset doesn’t seem to be a smartphone, but instead is running on the Samsung’s proprietary TouchWiz feature phone interface, well known from the Samsung Pixon for example.

Among its other niceties are FM radio with RDS, Bluetooth 2.1, and a microSD card slot however, unfortunately, as it’s evident from the photos the 8 megapixel camera is not equipped with a xenon flash. There’s only LED instead that’s best used as video light. There’s no mention of Wi-Fi functionality either.

Samsung S8300 5 Samsung S8300 6

As you may guess, there is no official info about the device yet, however word is out that it should be available by March 2009.

The picture below lists the specifications but it’s a little sketchy so to sum it up the Atila is rumoured to to support tri-band WCDMA 3G, HSDPA/HSUPA, quad-band GSM and have WiFi the MOTO Atila will run Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional.
