Piccadilly phone case has ‘Trusted Protection’

Piccadilly-iPhone-6-6s-Proective-Case-Gear4-D3O-Case-2The people of the UK have spoken! When looking for a new case to protect their all-important smartphone, consumers are looking for maximum protection, high-quality materials without making the case bulky and a great colour (according to an NPD survey).

Maybe this is why then, the Piccadilly phone case, featuring D3O technology from GEAR4, the number one trusted impact protection case brand, has proven to be one of the best-selling cases over the last year in the UK as it ticks all of these boxes.

Featuring the same D3O® impact absorbing technology that is trusted worldwide in U.S military combat uniforms, American football helmets and protective gear worn by pro athletes (including Usain Bolt), the stylish Piccadilly case for iPhone and Samsung devices boasts unrivalled protection without adding bulk or unsightly padding.

In fact, the level of protection offered by the Piccadilly case was independently tested at Cranfield Impact Centre (the UK’s leading independent test centre for F1 and defence) and it topped the charts. When impacted three times on its side from 1.7 metres (ear height), it was proven that GEAR4 D3O cases transfer less force than competitors by 30 percent. Not only this, on average the GEAR4 D3O range was also 53 percent lighter than other competitive cases.

GEAR4 is the first case brand to use injectable metallic D3O® to perfectly colour match the iPhone in Gold, Rose Gold, Silver and Black delivering more impact protection per cubic millimetre than other leading materials. Piccadilly is scratch-protected with UV coating and offers easy access to all ports.

So what exactly is D3O?

D3O materials in their raw state flow freely when moved slowly, but on shock, lock together to absorb and disperse energy, before instantly returning to their flexible state. This reaction is counter intuitive. The greater the force of the impact, the more the molecules lock together and the greater the protection meaning your device stays safe when dropped.

The GEAR4 Piccadilly case is available for iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus for £29.99 from Carphone Warehouse and www.gear4.com

5 tech tends to fly in 2017

reichelt elektronik Online Electronics and Components SpecialistWith 2017 well upon on us it’s time to take a look at what’s set to be the next big thing in the tech world. Whether you’re a tech enthusiast or just after a nifty gadget, Holger Engelbrecht, Product Manager of Home & Security, and Tools of reichelt.co.uk gives the lowdown on some of the big trends that will be coming our way…

  1. Storage breakthrough with SSDs

Ever heard of 3D Nand Flash technology? It’s the latest range in SSDs and many of the big tech giants will be rolling it out this year. This technology is a type of flash memory in which memory cells are stacked vertically in multiple layers to help achieve higher densities at a lower cost per bit. Ultimately, 3D Nand Flash can offer higher capacity in a smaller physical space compared to 2D Nand. More space for less money – makes sense.

  1. Lightening fast USBs

The introduction of Thunderbolt 3 technology as the new interface for USB Type-C cables, has presented a desktop-level performance from a mobile computer. This advancement in technology supports the fastest data transfer and most video bandwidth available on a single cable in the world. To get technical, it provides 40Gbps – doubling the speed of its predecessor and eight times faster than USB 3.1 – it will be a technological marvel this year!

  1. The virtual reality revolution continues

Virtual reality is here and 2016 has proven to be the year that it’s moved into the mainstream. However despite many VR headsets on general sale, there is still a need for VR content that fully lives up to expectations. Expect a new expanded offering of VR content not just from gamers but also the film industry, streaming services, and even new areas like visual novels and comic books. Users still need a solid enough reason to invest in VR headsets. As slick as they may look, content is king.

  1. Smart home tech is the future

From decor-friendly gadgets and wireless power controls, right through to sophisticated security systems, advances in technology continue to make it easier to make homes smarter and safer, and it seems homeowners are waking up to the value. Day-to-day tasks are made simpler and it’s inevitable that more exciting smart home products will come to market this year. This year, sales of general smart home devices are up 21% at reichelt.co.uk, with one of the best-sellers being the Konig Smart home security starter set.

  1. Robotics

Robots are reaching a whole new realm of realism and this year promises to deliver a new generation of robot. The arrival of these mechanical companions is making the unthinkable a reality. We’ve already seen the announcement drone deliveries and there will be a whole host of new robotic product launched as the year goes on. Our fascination with A.I is fuelling the advancement of this technology at an alarming pace. Our robot friend, the Ubtech Humanoid Alpha 1S has been a hit so far and we’re predicting he’ll be just as popular throughout 2017.

As well as its robotic kits and smart home range, reichelt.co.uk offers a wider variety of tools, components, tech accessories and more – offering many items up to 20% cheaper than elsewhere in the UK.

Y-cam launches Protect

aalrm-banner-imgY-cam Solutions, a leader in smart home security since 2007, announces Protect, a complete Triple Layer™ smart security system designed to actively monitor your home and reduce your chances of becoming a victim of burglary. Simple to set up, everything you need is in the box so you can secure your home within minutes. Protect is part of the multi-award winning Y-cam smart security range, expanding the company’s vision to give peace of mind and make home security easy and accessible to everyone.

Smart Technology You Can Trust

Crime is a fact of life, but installing a home security alarm acts as an effective deterrent and can combat opportunist burglars. Protect is a flexible, hassle-free way to monitor your property and ensure your family feels safe and secure. Protect has been designed to deliver peace of mind 24/7 and help you look after what matters most.

Protect features include:

Triple Layer™ Security – It is estimated the average UK home broadband internet connection is down approximately 18 full days a year. With SIM card backup, Internet backup and 8 hour battery backup, your Y-cam Protect system remains fully operational, even if your internet connection is down or you have a power cut. Triple LayerTM means you benefit from high professional security standards, without the high cost

Total control – providing access at your fingertips anywhere, anytime. Arm and disarm your alarm through your smartphone or tablet with Y-cam’s free iOS and Android app; change settings, view recent activity and manage sensors from the app and even sound the alarm

  • Instant alarm notifications to your smartphone – Y-cam Protect gives you the information you need so you can take appropriate action no matter where you are. In addition to instant push notifications being sent to your smartphone, Y-cam Plus members can also receive SMS notifications to you and your trusted pre-defined contacts to tell you whenever an alarm has been triggered.

24/7 line monitoring – Around one in five burglars will attempt to cut communication lines before breaking in; Y-cam Protect has a secure communication line to the outside world which is monitored 24 hours a day using Y-cam’s unique cloud technology and experienced engineers, ensuring you are notified whenever the line is down.

The complete solution – Over 94% of all burglar alarms are estimated to be false, i.e. not caused by a break-in. Y-cam Protect gives Front Line Protection against break-ins and together with Y-cam cameras allows visual verification of alarms remotely from your device

Hassle free simple set up – Designed so that no technical knowledge is required to be up and running in minutes. Ideal for consumers who want an “out of the box” home security solution with no messy cabling or drilling required

  • Expandable System – Every property is different, so Y-cam Protect is designed to be a personal system tailored to your individual needs. Easily expandable over time, you can add up to 32 sensors and remotes to fully protect what matters to you

Portable system – Y-cam Protect can be used in many different locations and scenarios, from protecting a whole home to a single drawer. The principle is the same – if access has been breached, you will know. Even if you don’t have internet connection available at the location you can still connect via the mobile networks*

Flexible – Use via Internet with SIM backup, internet only or SIM only*, you decide. There is also power back up. This also means you can install anywhere without being limited to internet or power availability

*Plus Service – designed to complement Y-cam Protect, Y-cam Plus gives customers optional added benefits and additional peace of mind.

Established in 2007, Y-cam Solutions Ltd is an award-winning British technology company specialising in easy to use and affordable smart security solutions for the non-technical consumer. Customers can buy with confidence, knowing that the product they own today will only get better over time. Our technology is being updated regularly and these new benefits are passed directly to our customers. Over the last 12 months Y-Cam has released new functionality on average once every 7 weeks, including many new features for free.

What’s in the box?

Protect Hub – The Protect Hub is the central nerve centre for your Protect Alarm system and is what all your sensors link to. It includes 8 hour battery backup, a pre-installed SIM card and a Siren. You can control your Protect Hub from your Remote or by using your smart device app, meaning you can access it anywhere and also receive instant alerts at any time.

Protect Access Sensor – The Access Sensor secures any potential access points in your property including doors, windows and cupboards. The sensor come in two parts and will trigger the alarm when the link between them in broken. It also has a tamper switch, meaning any interference with the sensor will also trigger the alarm.

  • Protect Motion Sensor – The Motion Sensor picks up movement when the Y-cam Protect Alarm is activated. It is also linked to the remote, so when you press the ‘Home’ button the motion sensor will be deactivated, so you or your pets can move around your property while the alarm is still activated without setting off the alarm, knowing the exterior perimeter is still armed.
  • Protect Remote – The Remote allows you to conveniently control the Y-cam Protect alarm system without having to open up the Y-cam app on your smartphone. It enables instant arm/disarm, has a home button that will disarm internal sensors and a Plus Action Button for Y-cam Plus Service members, allowing you to customise your Protect alarm system. The remote is for use within local reception range of the hub.
