SPV “VOX” appears in Dutch Orange magazine

It has only been about a week since we found out that Orange were planning to carry the HTC Vox/HTC S710 as the Orange SPV E650 so we were quite surprised to learn that the device has already appeared in the Dutch Orange magazine.

SPV VOX

You’ll notice that the device is appearing under its codename (SPV VOX) and that it’s listed as running Windows Mobile 5. We believe that the device will have WM6 and that the name will change to SPV E650 once it launches. The E650 is expected to be available to all Orange markets.

No UK release Orange SPV M650

Lots of us have been waiting patiently to see the Orange SPV M650 finally released in the UK. We certainly get a lot of questions and feedback about the device. However, today we had terrible news from our source close to Orange. Apparently the SPV M650 will NOT be released in the UK as there is ‘Too Much Overlap’ with the flagship SPV M700.

Orange SPV M650

This seems like a strange turn of events given that the M650 and the M700 are available from Orange in France. Do they not consider that the same overlap in technology to be an issue in the other European markets? We are seeking confirmation from Orange UK on this.

Check out more info on MoDaCo.

So who will be buying this the Advantage? Are you looking to purchase one? We would like to hear your thoughts about the device!

For those amoung you that are impatient our friends at Clove are offering the chance to pre-order the HTC Advantage on their website.

    HTC Advantage

Infosync world have been talking about the device on their site:

Though the Advantage has a quad-band GSM/EDGE/HSDPA radio, HTC told us they don’t imagine this device taking the place of a cell phone, which makes sense because holding the device to your ear would be ridiculous. The device is quite large, even larger than some UMPCs we’ve seen, which puts the Advantage in a strange position.

Read more about the HTC Advantage HERE and HERE.

Hands-on with the Orange SPV E650

Arne over at the theUnwired, lucky guy that he is, is currently at 3GSM and has managed to get a hands-on with the Orange SPV E650 / HTC s710.

    Orange SPV E650

No question, HTC’s latest Windows Mobile Standard smartphone, the HTC Vox (commercially available as HTC S710 and Orange SPV E650), is a compact and stylish messaging device which features – more or less – everything except UMTS (unfortunately).
On the first sight, this compact smartphone just looks like a stylish phone, but, thanks to the cleverly concealed semi-sliding keyboard, it makes light work of messaging, web browsing and calls. Viewing Microsoft Office Word and Excel documents on the go is a pleasure on the 2.4″ screen with landscape view option and users can stay connected via user-friendly, real-time E-Mail in its original rich HTML format (thanks to Windows Mobile 6) and the ability to chat over Windows Live

Read what else he has to say over at theUnwired.

    Orange announce HSDPA service

Today Orange have announced their HSDPA service rollout in the UK:

    Orange Logo

Orange Launches Fully Trialled and Tested HSDPA to Complement Existing Range of HSDPA-Enabled Devices and Mobile Office Cards

Orange announced the availability of its HSDPA service. Orange 3G+ is a fast upgrade to its existing 3G network which covers over 90% of the UK outdoor population. Orange UK’s overall strategy has been to deliver ongoing enhancements to its market-leading network and HSDPA-optimised mobile office cards and devices throughout 2006 in preparation for the rollout of 3G+ across its 3G footprint from today.

Orange 3G+ is being initially concentrated on key commercial zones such Greater London and airports. The service will be rolled out to the top five cities in the country during 2007.

Customers have a wide choice of the 3G+ enabled devices and Business Everywhere mobile office cards that are already available from Orange, including: Sierra Wireless 850, the current Option 3G/EDGE card* and the Fujitsu Lifebook E: Laptop with embedded 3G+. 3G+ enabled devices include the SPV M3100 and Motorazr maxx V6.

‘Mobile broadband is designed to increase the productivity of our customers, wherever they happen to be working,’ said Neil Laider, VP of Orange Business Services. ‘3G+ provides faster response times and enhances applications where bigger file downloads or faster data streaming is required. For example, a 3MB PowerPoint presentation will typically take just 34 seconds to download using Orange 3G+ compared with 20 minutes via GPRS. Customers with 3G+ enabled mobile office cards will notice these benefits as 3G+ is rolled out across the network. Orange is future proofing by ensuring all mobile office cards are 3G+ ready.’
