Microsofts Kin Phones are no more

Kin

It was back in April that Microsoft announced their range of KIN phones and to cut a long story short they were rubbish and they are not moving forward with the project!

“Microsoft has made the decision to focus on the Windows Phone 7 launch and will not ship KIN in Europe this fall as planned. Additionally, we are integrating our KIN team with the Windows Phone 7 team, incorporating valuable ideas and technologies from KIN into future Windows Phone releases. We will continue to work with Verizon in the U.S. to sell current KIN phones."

The two KIN devices were set to be released here in the UK this year on the Vodafone network but that clearly will not happen. I am not totally surprised to be honest. Although the KIN phones look nice they had a very limited OS with no additional apps being able to be downloaded to the phones. Combined with the not so good price tag in the States I can certainly see why the youngsters would go for another platform rather than KIN.

It kind of makes you wonder why Microsoft went down this route in the first place. With Windows Phone 7 on the horizon you would have thought they would plough all resources into that. Oh, well. A lesson has been learned in the Microsoft camp.

Now we just need to wait until the end of the year to see if we will have any disappointments with Windows Phone 7.
