LG Launches the Tone Series Bluetooth Headset Lineup

large01LG Electronics (LG) will unveil its most premium addition to the TONE Series of Bluetooth headsets at MWC 2016 in Barcelona, Spain which runs from February 22-25. In addition to its good looks, the new TONE Platinum delivers unrivalled style and superior audio quality through a partnership with Harmon Kardon®.

Having secured the Harmon Kardon Platinum grade, the newest TONE Platinum is designed for both professionals and avid music lovers. LG has adopted the Balanced Armature design as the sound module for the latest TONE Platinum model to minimise distortion. The design is usually reserved for high-end wired earphones. In addition, its aluminium earphone housing helps deliver a more sophisticated sound performance.

The headset features aptX™ HD Audio Codec to deliver CD-like quality audio over Bluetooth that faithfully reproduces the full audio bandwidth and minimises latency by significantly reducing the bit rate without affecting sound quality. The premium headset also offers noise cancelling dual microphones for clearer calls even in the noisiest environments.

The TONE Platinum’s sleek aluminum finish adds a premium look and feel to the device while its ergonomic design allows users to wear the headset for hours without discomfort. To further enhance convenience, LG added Voice Command to handle incoming calls just by voice while the Tone & Talk app has been enhanced to support Voice Memo and Find Me via any Android smartphone (version 4.1 and higher).

“The LG TONE Platinum is a showcase of innovative technologies that aims to deliver premium sound quality in a form-factor that millions of customers have come to embrace,” said Michael Park, vice president in charge of Innovative Personal Devices Business Division at LG Electronics. “LG’s TONE offerings are second to none in the wireless Bluetooth world which is a key growth area for our mobile business.”

“We are excited to collaborate with LG on the LG TONE Platinum,” said Michael Mauser, executive vice president and president of Harman’s Lifestyle Division. “Harman Kardon has over 60 years of experience creating premium audio and ground-breaking sound technologies. When a product like the LG TONE Platinum carries the Harman Kardon name, it is confirmation that the device will offer class-leading audio quality and outstanding design.”

LG plans to roll out the latest premium Bluetooth headset in the United States in March, followed by other key markets in Asia, Europe and Latin America. Visitors to Mobile World Congress are encouraged to stop by LG’s booth in Hall 3 of Fira Gran Via from February 22-25 to see the newest TONE Platinum.

Sennheiser unveils new version of the HD 800

opopopThe Sennheiser HD 800 is cherished by music lovers throughout the world for its brilliant sound image and impressive spatiality. With the HD 800 S, the audio specialist now presents a new version, which even surpasses the listening experience of its predecessor: Acoustically, the proven transducer technology and the innovative earcup design of the HD 800 are still being employed, while the sound image has once again been further optimized in the medium and low frequency range. Sennheiser has also enhanced the equipment level of the HD 800 S with the addition of a symmetrical XLR4 cable. The color was also slightly changed: the earcups of the new model are resplendent in a premium matte-black finish.

Ever since its launch, the HD 800 has been a firm favourite among music lovers and audiophiles. Brilliant trebles, precise bass reproduction and a particularly clear sound image combined with a frequency response from 4 to 51,000 Hz – these are the outstanding qualities of the multi-award-winning HD 800.

 p

With the HD 800 S, sound reproduction has been optimized even beyond the high benchmark set by the HD 800. This is made possible through the innovative absorber technology that was first introduced in the IE 800. This patented technology ensures that the so-called “masking effect” is neutralized. This acoustic phenomenon, that diminishes sound quality, arises as the human ear is unable to perceive higher-pitched sounds, that have low-volumes, at the same time that sigificantly louder sounds in a lower frequency range occur. Through the application of the absorber technology, the energy of the resonances is absorbed, thus preventing any unwanted peaks in the frequency response and ensuring that even the finest nuances in the music remain audible over the entire frequency range.

ppo

Impressive sound experience – outstanding technology

The improved audio quality of the HD 800 S is based on the high-end technology of its legendary predecessor. As before, the core of the new model is a unique transducer system which, as in the HD 800, is the source and guarantee of an exceptionally detailed sound image. Measuring 56 millimetres, it is the largest transducer currently to be found in a set of dynamic headphones. In spite of the size of the transducer, the patented diaphragm with its innovative ring design minimizes any distortion that might occur especially at higher frequencies – keeping total harmonic distortion to less than 0.02 percent. Meticulous attention was also paid to the design of the earcups. These are designed in such a way that the sound waves are directed to the ear at a slight angle. This ensures a particularly natural and spatial sound perception.

In order to achieve even better audio quality in the reproduction of audio sources with a symmetrical output, such as the Sennheiser HDVD 800, the HD 800 S comes with a symmetrical XLR4 cable.

 oop

Luxurious materials for luxury headphones

“The HD 800 is in a class of its own. During its development, we took time to focus on every single detail,” explained Maurice Quarré, Director Business Segment Select & Audiophile at Sennheiser. And that is also true for the new HD 800 S. Like their predecessor, these high-end headphones from the audio specialist use only the highest quality materials – not least to optimally support the outstanding sound properties. For example, the transducer is embedded in a specially manufactured stainless steel gauze. For the headband, the audio specialist has chosen a design consisting of several layers of sound-attenuating plastic and stainless steel, while the connector contacts are gold-plated to ensure optimum contact. The earcups are made of high-quality, high-attenuation plastic, which is used in aviation engineering as a substitute for metal. It is precisely these components on the HD 800 S that feature a matte-black, silk-gloss finish, providing the new high-end headphones with a unique, silky luxurious look. In this way, the outer appearance of the HD 800 S is in perfect harmony with the exceptional quality of the sound image.

Like the HD 800, the HD 800 S is hand-crafted at the company’s German headquarters in Wedemark. It will be available from mid-December 2015.

Sennheiser launches marble encased headphones for €50k

Orpheus_printframe3_rgbSennheiser today announces Orpheus – the best headphones in the world, offering an unprecedented audio experience. The electrostatic headphone system combines the most innovative technology, highest quality craftsmanship and luxurious materials including Italian Carrara marble. The high-end headphones, which will be hand-crafted in Germany from next year onwards, will carry a price tag around 50,000 EUR.

Orpheus fulfils an ambition of the audio specialists, to build a high-end headphone which sounds so brilliant that you feel that you are in a concert hall; creating acoustics that surpass anything that has been heard before. The new launch is the second in the Orpheus series, bringing new technology that surpasses the original design created in 1990/1991, which took the audio world by storm. The product became an icon of the audio industry and was recognised as the best headphones in the world – until now. Almost 25 years later, Sennheiser is now opening up a new chapter in audio history with the successor, one that shares its famous name: “With the new Orpheus, we once again push the boundaries and show that we can repeatedly set new benchmarks in excellence and with that shape the future of the audio world,” said Sennheiser CEO Daniel Sennheiser.

With the first few models only just being created, there have been a series of limited listening sessions and alongside star producer Steve Levine, Grammy award-winner Gregory Porter was one of the first to be invited to an exclusive listening trial. “When I record my own music, I always try to convey my emotions. I don’t know how exactly, but these headphones really do succeed in getting those emotions across,” said the jazz musician, describing his listening experience with the Orpheus.

The unique Orpheus experience begins even before you start listening. When the system is inactive, the components are all retracted and the Orpheus has the serene beauty of a sculpture. Gently pushing the on/off-volume control brings the sculpture to life: the control elements, each of which are crafted from a single piece of brass and then plated with chrome, slowly extend from the marble housing, before the vacuum tubes enclosed in quartz glass bulbs rise from the base and start to glow. Finally, a glass cover is raised, allowing the headphones with ear cups finished in genuine leather to be removed.

The Orpheus uses an innovative amplifier concept that combines to perfection the advantages of a tube amplifier with those of a transistor amplifier.

The selection of all materials consequently supports the acoustic excellence of this milestone product.  Over 6,000 components were meticulously chosen to ensure an outstanding acoustic performance. Sennheiser used exclusive components such as gold-vaporized ceramic electrodes and platinum-vaporized diaphragms. The marble that Sennheiser chose for the amplifier housing comes from Carrara in Italy and is the same type of marble that Michelangelo used to create his sculptures.
