Another Chromebook arriving soon from Acer

Acer ChromebookThis appears to be of week the Chromebook. Acer has announced new C720 Chromebook alongside the HP’s Chromebook 11 at the even lower price of $249.99. Sticking with Intel’s x86 chips rather than the ARM-based processor in HP’s machine, the Acer C720 introduces the Haswell-generation Celeron 2955U for better performance and battery life. Also boasting the promise of up to 8.5hrs of runtime despite being 30-percent thinner in your bag.

Acer have chosen to remove the hard-drive seen in their previous Chromebook and replace it with an SSD with options starting at 16GB and 4GB of memory. Connectivity includes WiFi a/b/g/n, an HDMI output, a USB 3.0, and USB 2.0. Unlike the HP you get an SD card reader. The screen has an 11.6-inch 1366 x 768 display.

Altogether this looks to be a tidier package than the HP 11 however it does not seem to possess the good looks of the HP.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 – Video Test

Galaxy Note 3 video testOne of the best ways to test a video camera is to take it out at dusk. At dusk the light levels vary greatly as you have light sunlight, car headlights, shadowed areas and, for the most part, ideal lighting conditions. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is taken for a drive in to see just how well the video deals with many of the different elements that the phone will have to deal in it’s lifetime. Check below for the video.

The drive gives the anti shake mechanism a workout, auto focus is constantly being pushed thanks to a bit of dirt on the windscreen and the microphone isn’t terribly distorted by the mighty 3.0ltr engine. For the most part the video camera performs rather well.

Motorola Xplay on the way

moto_xplay_2.pngIn Phablet news a 6.3-inch device called the Xplay from Motorola is actually prepping their own large-sized phablet device, which will be called the Xplay. Supposedly it will be sporting a 6.3-inch display at a full HD 1080p and will launch in 2014. That’s not all we have though. It has been indicated that Motorola is also already working on the next progeny of the Droid Ultra. This one will be called the Droid Quantum and is scheduled for sometime in 2014 as well.

Not a single other relevant piece of information was shared on this subject, but we will keep an eye out for it now. Perhaps we will see something pop up at one of the first trade shows of next year like CES in January.

iPhone 5s unboxing video

iPhone-5s-space-graySeveral weeks ago Apple launched the latest iPhones, the iPhone 5c and the iPhone 5s. As always, the launched has been met with a very mixed response, from those loving the new phones to those seeing them as a pointless incremental and even a disappointing update.

We’ve spoken about the issues with iOS 7 a few times already and the expected iOS 7.0.3 has yet to surface as expected.

I’ve finally managed to get my hands on the iPhone 5s, my mistake was in ordering a gold 64GB version initially which is, apparently, the model seeing the highest demand. As a consequence my gold phone still isn’t here.

I realise that there are lots of iPhone unboxing videos out there but sticking with the tradition of the site and unboxing everything that comes through the door, this is ours:

Playstation Plus November Update

PS-Plus-Logo.jpgAs we know now PlayStation Plus is something of an awesome subscription based goody for us PlayStation owners (PS3, Vita and soon to be PS4 too!) October saw us receive Far Cry 3 free of charge! and in the previous month we got Assassins Creed 3 too so its safe to say that it is definitely worth coming back for more.

And November is in my opinion the best month yet! PlayStation have signed up with both Capcom and Konami to bring subscribers a couple of seriously awesome games absolutely free! The games in question are none other than Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and Remember Me which if you will remember i was very excited about before its launch? This sure is an exciting month for PS Plus subscribers and i personally can’t wait!

There are also a couple of decent fun PS Vita games joining on October 23rd and they will be listed below.

Below are a list of games both leaving and joining PS Plus from the 23rd October so if you haven’t played the following games i suggest you get downloading today so that you don’t miss out! I say this because as long as you download them before 23rd October and carry on your PS Plus subscription then you can carry on playing those games, an added bonus if you ever needed one!

Leaving:

  • Far Cry 3 (PS3)
  • Mafia II (PS3)
  • Spec Ops: The Line (PS3)
  • Street Fighter X Tekken (PS Vita)
  • Touch My Katamari (PS Vita)

Joining:

  • Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (PS3)
  • Remember Me (PS3)
  • Oddworld: Strangers Wrath (PS Vita)
  • Motorstorm RC (PS Vita)

If you do agree with the fact that the next month is going to be awesome then i fully recommend that you sign up for a PS Plus subscription if you haven’t done so already, prices start at £11.99 for a 3 month subscription and for a whole year it is £39.99 which considering the content that you get for your devices is extremely good value!

Eurogamer Expo 2013

Eurogamer Expo 2013This year marked the largest ever Eurogamer Expo at the Earls Court Exhibition centre in London and me and my partner were lucky enough to have been given the chance to go for the third year in a row!

Now I should give you a bit of background on me as a gamer and me at the show in previous years, first of all I have been an avid gamer for going on 17 years now and I’ve gone through many of the what we now call ‘Retro collectable consoles’ such as the Sega Mega drive and Master system, the NES and SNES from Nintendo, original Gameboy, Gameboy colour, advance…and from there I now own the PS3 and Xbox 360 and I have pre-ordered a PS4 which I will receive before Christmas this year (so excited!! and you will see why later on in this post) So basically I LOVE gaming and I continue to be so exited by new release games and consoles that I annoy the heck out of my family because all I want to do is buy these new and exciting products!

So that is a little background on me as a gamer, now to explain how my last two appearances at the Eurogamer Expo went.

Mowing your lawn in the 21st century

Well this is something a little different for a Friday afternoon and heading in to the weekend may well be something that many of us will thing about over next few days…

miimoThe ancient art of garden maintenance has been catapulted into the future, thanks to Honda – the Japanese manufacturer most commonly renowned for its turbocharged motorbikes, sleek autos and that fun ‘Hate Something, Change Something’ TV ad.

Honda’s range of garden products includes the nifty little Miimo, a lawn mower with a difference – think of it as a Henry Hoover for your turf, but with a far more futuristic feel. Every feature of this characterful robotic mower has been expertly designed and refined for a more intuitive, and therefore a more efficient, grass-cutting experience. It can follow random cutting patterns – ideal if yours is a garden with decorative ornaments or fiddly borders that a more cumbersome mower might struggle with. Quite miraculously, it also knows when it needs a top-up of machine food, and will make its own way back to the docking station when the time comes.

The Miimo operates a no-mess-no-fuss policy. It mulches as it mows, and spreads miniscule particles of grass across the lawn, which act as a fertilizer. Over time you’ll notice how effectively this reduces the number of bothersome weeds in your garden. A model helpmate, the Miimo is quiet as well as clean – it will work through the night without making irritating whining or buzzing sounds, so you and your neighbours can get your 40 winks without disturbance.

This one-of-a-kind mower has a thoroughly likeable appearance and mower-personality. It’s polite as anything, and will stop as soon as it touches a person or object, thanks to its touch-sensitive 360 degree floating cover. It’s also safety-conscious, and has three reversible cutting blades made of ductile heat-treated steel. In human terms, this means that if the Miimo ever happens to hit a solid object, these blades will rotate inwards rather than shatter.

Take a look at the Miimo on the Honda website. Alongside a bunch of useful stats and specs that will answer any questions you have before you decide to buy one, there’s also a fantastic feature that lets you drag an image of the Miimo around for a 360 degree view. Making the Miimo twirl will make your day.

Apple readying iPad 5 & iPad mini 2 launch

Apple-iPad-5Apple are set to hold their new iPad event on October 22nd, according to various sources on the interwebs. Later than the October 17th date that had previously been touted, the event date now looks to be more definite.

It’s likely that the event will see various announcements, certainly we anticipate the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2, but then there’s the matter of OS X Mavericks that went Gold just recently too.

Furthermore, Apple have been teasing us with images and video of their new Mac Pro, so could we see this new beast released at the same time? Certainly the hopes are that each of these new products will be available pre-Christmas.

As we near the launch date several new high-quality images of the iPad 5 have surfaced. These clearly show the reduced bezel size on the new iPad which is now similar to the iPad mini in that respect. Furthermore, it seems increasingly likely that both the iPad 5 and the iPad mini 2 will have the fingerprint unlock technology from the iPhone 5s and a suggestion that the iPad 5 will have an A7X chip, slightly different from the A7 chip existing in the iPhone 5s.
