Quick Review: GPSpeedOMeter for BlackBerry

appworld.blackberry.com

I’m a sucker for having a speedometer on whatever device I am using. I have one on my iPhone, Android and even my BlackBerry PlayBook that is dash mounted in the car. Just the other day I realized I didn’t have one on my BlackBerry Smartphone and that just wouldn’t do. What if i needed one in an emergency (snigger).

So I stumbled upon GPSpeedOMeter which has a free version as well as the paid. Free is good with me so I gave it a try and I have to say it is absolutely awesome!

There are many GPS speedometer apps to choose from on every platform. What I liked out this one was the fact that is is way more than just a speedo. There are other cool features that lie beneath the surface.

Read on to see what they are and I bet you go try it for yourself.

The Vodafone 155: A phone for the old, complete with SOS options!

Vodafone_155_front

The new Vodafone 155 mobile phone is designed with senior mobile users in mind, to make dialling numbers, listening to calls and writing and reading text messages as accessible as possible – and all for just £25 on Pay As You Go price plans.
With an emergency ‘SOS’ feature, the Vodafone 155 also helps to provide peace of mind for users as well friends and family concerned about their wellbeing. When the ‘SOS’ button on the back is held down for a set number of seconds, the phone emits a loud alert sound, sends out a ‘help’ text message to four designated SOS contacts, and will then automatically try to ring them via hands free.
A large uncluttered display and big buttons makes keying in numbers easy and features such as hearing aid compatibility, high volume ringtones and noise cancellation technology make it ideal for the hard of hearing.
Reliability and practicality are crucial, so the Vodafone 155 has an extraordinary standby time of at least twenty nine days, and a talk time of up to 600 minutes – making it easy to stay in touch should there ever be an emergency. The phone also includes a desktop charger and loudspeaker.
Customers can pick up the Vodafone 155 in store now, where the staff can also help to transfer the contacts and content from their previous phone to their new handset using Vodafone RED Box.

T-Mobile confirms no 1Mb/S data restriction on ‘The Full Monty’ plan

t-mobile_logo1

“Our groundbreaking Full Monty plan allows for full enjoyment of data services on the latest smartphones, such as social networking, browsing, music downloading and video streaming.

We continually look at our customers’ data needs and requirements to ensure we’re able to provide a great network experience for everyone.

We can confirm that we do not have a 1Mb/S maximum data download speed in place for The Full Monty plan – nor for any of our other pay monthly or pay as you go price plans – and we are confident that our average data speeds are as good, if not better, than anyone else in the industry.

T-Mobile joined forces with Orange in 2010 giving customers free access to each other’s signal and coverage. Further to this, thanks to the ‘big 3G switch on’ last year, we now offer our customers the UK’s widest 3G coverage. We are constantly developing our network, and recently announced we’re investing a further £1.5billion in network improvements over the next three years.

We apologise for any confusion caused by this matter.”

PHONES 4U LAUNCHES ‘JUMP’

phones4u

Phones 4u is today announcing the national rollout of JUMP (‘Just Upgrade My Phone’) – a new type of contract which enables consumers to upgrade their mobile phone, from a selection of the latest smartphones on the market, as often as every 6 months.

Differing from other flexible offerings on the market, JUMP doesn’t require any upfront fees at the point of upgrade and customers own rather than lease the handset. For the added flexibility of being able to upgrade as often as every six months, customers will only need to initially pay an average added monthly cost of £2.99 – £3.99, dependent on the original JUMP contract chosen.

JUMP has been successfully trialled since May 2011 in 100 stores. The national rollout begins today and the offering is expected to be available in all of Phones 4u’s 586+ stores, via Phones 4u online and via Phones 4u telesales by May 2012. We will also be supporting JUMP as part of a wider multi-million pound ATL Phones 4u campaign this year.

Alistair Firth, Director of Customer Development at Phones 4u said: “Technology is moving fast and innovative handsets are launching all the time on the market but to date there’s been a disconnect between the frequency of smartphone releases and the length of mobile phone contracts on offer. We want to give our customers the freedom to own the very latest smartphones like the iPhone 4S without having to wait 18-24 months for an upgrade. The idea for JUMP was born out of research we conducted that revealed people were frustrated by the inability to upgrade their handsets sooner”.
