Back at the start of the month we told you all that Sony Mobile were kindly donating an Xperia PLAY for us to give away.

As usual the method of entry into the competition was via Twitter and we had a huge response with hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of retweets.

Thank you to all that participated but I am afraid there can only be one winner. And that lucky person is….. @lindsaydr

Well done David, we will be in touch.

Stay tuned everybody as we have another competition starting in the next couple of days. And of course thanks to Sony Mobile for supplying the awesome prize.

RIM will continue to focus on the consumer, despite what the media is saying.

BlackBerry-Logo

You may have seen on more than one of the main news channels today details of RIM’s earning call last night. You may also have noticed that several of these channels, including the BBC, have stated that RIM say they are going to focus on the enterprise segment of the market and not the consumer.

Whoever wrote these articles clearly didn’t listen properly to the earnings call. These claims are totally misleading. Sure, Thorsten Heins did say that the company would re-focus on core strengths, including the enterprise customer base but he certainly didn’t say that they would not continue to support the consumer market. In many parts of the world the consumer market is where Research in Motion is strongest, including here in the UK. The BlackBerry Curve 8520 has been hugely successful and continues to be.

One thing that Thorsten also said, which the bigger media channels didn’t pick up on, was that RIM would be bringing new low end devices to market within weeks. If this is the case how on earth can RIM not be focusing on the consumer!

The HTC One Series goes Sky Diving

Sky

To launch its new HTC One series, HTC, a leading global designer of smartphones, has put a consumer at the heart of its’ latest TV commercial by challenging one to capture the world’s first free fall fashion shoot on a mobile phone. The campaign, which kicks off in the UK on 5th April, is designed to push the boundaries of performance for the mobile handset and its camera capabilities by demonstrating that it is possible to capture great shots whatever the environment.
To really bring the shoot to life, HTC challenged Nick Jojola, an amateur photographer, who had never skydived before to capture high production fashion imagery on the HTC One handsets whilst freefalling at 126mph. This not only delivered an unforgettable personal experience but it also created an amazing real-world product demonstration.
Filmed on location in Arizona, by skydiving cinematographer Norman Kent, the shoot features world champion skydiver and model, Roberta Mancino. Shot at dusk and dawn this complex and demanding advertising creative is designed to bring to life the simultaneous video and photo capture functionality and instant capture capabilities of the new HTC OneT handsets. Both the HTC OneT X and HTC OneT S challenge traditional digital compact cameras by delivering a range of features including high quality images even in low light conditions, instant image capture, auto focus, burst mode and backlight HDR technology and the ability to take stills from already shot HD video footage that operate effectively in both normal and adverse conditions.

Gloucestershire Police Adopt The BlackBerry Solution

9790

We have reported a couple of times in the past about UK Police forces using the BlackBerry solution. It seems that Gloucestershire Constabulary have taken the plunge and adopted the BlackBerry in a bid to save costs and make officers more efficient out on the street.

Officers will use the phones to carry out paperwork and update logs, jobs previously carried out from the office. It comes after the force closed and put up for sale 13 of its stations in a bid to hack £18 million from its budget.

Katy Roberts, spokeswoman for Gloucestershire Police, said: “641 BlackBerry devices are being issued across the county to PCs and PCSOs working in our Local Policing Areas. The devices will give officers access to the majority of the systems used in their work, allowing them more time on patrol and less time travelling to or working within police stations. This is part of our drive to increase the number of officers working in high- visibility roles. It will also reduce bureaucracy and improve efficiency, thereby cutting overall policing costs.”
