Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini unboxing video

GALAXY-S3-Mini

The Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini is clearly the little brother of the popular Galaxy S3 and while the specs and size are not as great, that is because it is aimed at a different style of consumer. Not everyone wants the biggest and best smartphone and cost is always a factor, so the SGS3 Mini slots nicely into the mid range selection of smartphones on the market.

It pretty much gives us the same experience as on its bigger brother but just with a smaller form factor. The 4 inch Super AMOLED display is glorious and we still get some decent power with the 1GHz dual-core processor. Running Android Jelly Bean straight out the box is another bonus.

Due to its size, the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini fits perfectly in the hand and will give consumers an easier one handed experience for sure.

You can check out the unboxing video and the full specs below:

HTC Windows Phone 8S unboxing video

HTC Windows Phone 8S It’s been a while since I last did an unboxing video so I was pretty pleased to get hold of HTC’s latest phone, the HTC Windows Phone 8S.

While the name may be a bit of a mouthful the phone itself isn’t too much of a handful with a 4″ display and carefully curved back in a textured finish this is a phone that’s easy and comfortable to hold.

HTC have made this one available in a variety of colours and this red one that we are looking at looks quite smart and stands out from the crowd. It’s quite festive too!

The 8S is the first Windows Phone 8 phone that I’ve had the chance to use in earnest so I’m looking forward to the next few weeks of testing. Initial impressions are that it runs really smoothly and rapid at most tasks despite the processor clock speed seemingly a little slow, on paper at least.

Check out the video below which covers the basics of the hardware before delving in and reviewing some of the OS and UI features.

White Mobile launches PAYG services in the UK – and it’s cheap!

sim

White Mobile SIM cards have gone on sale today. The MVNO uses the EE infrastructure and is offering mobile calls for only 6p per minute. The new package will also allow customers to call in the UK for free to others with the MVNO, or for 3p per minute to UK landlines and 6p per minute to UK mobiles. That’s a long way off the 25p plus that other PAYG networks charge!

White Mobile already offer international calling cards but the introduction of the UK PAYG service is new. It was brought to the UK by former Virgin Mobile sales and marketing chief Graeme Hutchinson.

He said: “Prices of PAYG have been going up over the years as other MVNOs try to push people towards contracts. But we believe there is still a genuine appetite for PAYG.

“Customers should not be punished for not being someone who can’t commit to a 24-month bundle.

“Anyone can price at this rate if they want to. We designed a low cost business so we can offer these prices.”

Hutchinson added that in future White Mobile will add micro SIMs to their offering, and perhaps nano SIMs.

With prices getting this low on Pay-As-You-Go it really is a nice alternative to the lengthy contracts that most of the major UK carriers want us on.

Virgin Atlantic to support Passbook – Great news for iOS users

Passbook

Virgin Atlantic today announced it is the first UK based airline to integrate Passbook into its mobile boarding cards, allowing passengers a paperless journey through the airport with their iPhone or iPod touch.
During the online check-in process, passengers will now have the added option of sending their boarding card directly to Passbook on their iPhone or iPod touch enabling them to by-pass check-in kiosks and heading straight to security or via baggage drop if carrying luggage.

Simon Lloyd, Virgin Atlantic’s Director of Marketing said; “We continually look for ways to enhance our passengers’ experience when they travel with us and that begins before they even reach the plane. Passbook integration works seamlessly with our website – and will enable a speedy check-in and ensure your boarding card is stored safely and securely in the Passbook app on your iPhone or iPod touch. Critically, it also cuts down the impact of printing physical cards. Our trials have shown passengers really enjoy using Passbook and we’re sure many other airlines will now follow our lead.”

After using online check-in and selecting to send the boarding card to Passbook, an email is sent to the passenger containing a Passbook attachment. As the attachment is opened the boarding card is securely loaded into the app ready to be scanned at the departure gate ahead of boarding the plane.
Passbook stores the boarding card data in an industry standard barcode which can be scanned and read at departure gates at all Virgin Atlantic UK departure airports – Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester. Passbook and mobile boarding card technology is available to use at key UK airports, selected airports around the world and will be rolled out to more airports as authorities approve it.
