Vodafone get HTC Legend exclusive?

leg v

Well that’s a turn up for the books. It looks like the only network you will be able to buy the HTC Legend on will be Vodafone!

I posted over the weekend that Vodafone had a sweet selection of devices coming soon and it would appear that the Legend is not being shared with the other UK carriers. That’s too bad if you ask me as the Legend is an awesome device and one that I believe will sell like hot cakes.

Such a shame that many people will now miss out if they are not willing to switch to Vodafone.

If you did not see our HTC Legend review please do so. It’s a good read, even if I do say so myself 🙂

Screenshots of BIS 3.0

bd2 An interesting email dropped in to my inbox this morning. We’ve all been hearing about the new version of BIS that’s coming but few have actually seen it yet. The email had a few images attached to it (below) and they are apparently of the new BIS 3.0 admin pages.

The email is from one of our readers calling himself the BlackBerry Master and was sent through an anonymous email account. Whoever you are BlackBerry Master thanks for sending these to us to share with our readers, I hope there will be more to follow!

Nokia N97 Mini Review

Nokia-N97-mini James reviewed the original N97 back in July last year (you can view the review here). It seemed in general to be quite a nice phone, Nokia’s best so far. I read a few other reviews of the N97 and I was surprised to see that the opinions were very mixed.

It has been pretty difficult to get our hands on this little(ish) handset. Over the past few months there have been many rumours about its withdrawal from sale by some carriers (Orange?) which has, perhaps, only fuelled many peoples desire to own one.

So at last I’ve been given the Nokia N97 Mini to review. It will be interesting to see if this scaled down version has any improvements over its bigger brother and if any of the early reports of stability and performance issues have been ironed out.

Let’s find out…

Sony Ericsson Xperia X2 competition

sony-ericsson-xperia-x2 I’ve been hinting that we’d have a new competition for a few weeks and I am pleased to say that the time has come!

Thanks to our friends at Sony Ericsson we have an Xperia X2 to give away. James picked up the X2 at MWC last month and Sony Ericsson are letting us use it as a competition prize.

If you’ve been following the progress of the X2 you’ll no doubt be aware that SE have decided not to make the Xperia X2 available in the UK, indeed it’s only going to be available to buy in a limited number of countries so entering this competition may in fact be one of the only ways of having a chance of getting your hands on the X2!

So have a look at the details on how to enter after the jump…

A fine selection of devices coming to Vodafone

vodafone-logo I just popped over to the coming soon pages on the Vodafone site and they have some seriously cool devices heading their way.

I posted earlier that the Sony Ericsson Vivaz is now available and this will be followed shortly by the Xperia X10 which looks set to be very popular with its Android OS and 8mp camera.

Vodafone are also to have the HTC Legend, HTC Desire and Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 and, later on, they will also have the Nexus One. Interesting that they will carry the Desire and the Nexus One as they are so very similar.

You’ll find full details and the official press release after the jump. There is one thing that we will want to check out is the Vodafone version of the HTC Legend as Vodafone will be adding Vodafone 360 to it and that can be very much a love/hate thing!

Sony Ericsson Vivaz free on Vodafone

Vivaz_Front There is a new wave of Sony Ericsson handsets coming over the next month or two and the first one, the Vivaz is now available on Vodafone.

The device is free on contracts starting at £30 per month and I think this device will appeal to not only Symbian users, but everyone. Sony Ericsson have put a nice overlay on top of the traditional Symbian one so its almost like not using a Symbian handset.

Sporting HD video recording and a 8.1 MP camera the Vivaz is certain to get a decent number of sales. Lets just hope Sony Ericsson have less issues with this device than they had with the last one, the Satio.

Matt unboxed the Vivaz last week and I now have the device so keep you eyes peeled this week for the full review.

HTC Tattoo to get upgrade to Eclair

HTC have confirmed that the HTC Tattoo will be getting the upgrade to Android 2.1, Eclair.  Tattoo

No date has been announced yet as HTC are still in the process of porting Sense UI to the version.

So if you have a HTC tattoo sim free then be patient, the update is coming.

Here in the UK, if you have the Orange branded version I’m afraid it could be a much longer waiting game. I will pop an email over to Orange but I would imagine an update, if any, could be some way off.

Trouble unlocking the 3GS

81835

Unlockers are finding iPhone 3G S models manufactured this year over-ride their software hacks when re-booted. New models with the latest version 3.1 3software update return to their original set up when they are re-booted after being switched off, removal of the SIM or the battery dies.

Some unlockers have been supplying customers with a PC program to enable them to ‘jump-start’ their 3G S when this occurs by connecting the device via a USB cable and unlocking it again themselves within a minute.

One said: “This has been problematic for us and it’s been frustrating not being able to overcome this. We’re continuing to look for a good commercial solution for this and there are rumours on forums that one may come to light soon, so it looks promising.”

Another unlocker said: “There’s no solution for this and with the availability of the 3G S now a lot wider due to Orange and Vodafone now selling it, more of the newer devices are getting out there. It’s therefore becoming a real problem. The various software houses will be working on this so hopefully there will be a solution for this soon.”
