Still remember the Skytone Alpha 680 Android netbook? Yeah, it’s been a while since we last talked about it, but luckily, we’ve now got snapshots of it live and in the flesh. That’s the good part. Unfortunately, while this Android-powered 7-inch touchscreen equipped netbook’s hardware looks good to go, it also says in the report that it’s still “not really stable” which casts aside any hope that it’ll be available in the market anytime soon. On the bright side, however, at least we’ve now got a handful of pictures of the Skytone Alpha 680 Android netbook to keep us entertained for the time being. So, how about it guys? Like what you see so far?
Just yesterday we broke the news that the power-house known as the HTC HD2 was about to land on T-Mobile. Not only that, but the Touch2 is coming too. Great news all round. Today we’ve had another anonymous tip, this time with a picture attached showing it on the T-Mobile systems under the name "HTC Touch HD2". You know the deal by now – 1Ghz CPU, 5 megapixel camera and all the goodies you could ever want. This looks set to be one of the most powerful and sexiest Windows Mobile phones ever.
Acer seem to be releasing quite a lot of handsets recently and this Acer Tempo F900 is one of the latest handsets to be released in the Tempo range.
The Acer Tempo F900 HD
The F900, still showing fairly obvious Eten design characteristics, appears to be Acer’s answer to the popular HTC Touch HD, having virtually the same screen and a similar footprint. Whether or not the F900 can hold its own against the Touch HD we’ll find out over the next few weeks as we test it for the full review. One thing is certain though, the F900 is a lot cheaper than the Touch HD at under £190 from eXpansys it does, on the face of it, seem like good value for money.
We’ll have the full review for you within the next few weeks. As always if there is anything specific that you would like to know then please let us know via the forum. For now have a look at the unboxing video below for a brief overview of the Aver F900.

Are you ready for a new Android in your life? Well if you happen to live in the UK then you will be able to pick up Huawei’s Pulse which is now available from T-Mobile UK. The Pulse is Huawei’s first Android phone but it certainly looks pretty interesting. The phone will offer you a 3.5-inch touchscreen display, HSPA connectivity, GPS, WiFi and, of course, Android running in the background. As long as you’re willing to get a new T-Mobile contract the phone will be available free of charge. However, if you’re not looking forward to a new contract then the Pulse will cost you around $280 with a pay-as-you-go plan. Considering that Microsoft is just about to launch Windows Mobile 6.5 to the masses, what are you more likely to get? A brand new Android phone or a Windows Phone? And we have certainly shown you lots of handsets lately running different OS so I bet the decision is not as easy as it would seem!
A couple of weeks ago I posted the fact that the HTC Tattoo was showing as coming soon to Vodafone. Well, today it has also appeared on the Orange website which is good news.
HTC Tattoo
This device will obviously be available on contract but I am also looking forward to finding out if it will also be on PAYG. If it is then the big question will be cost. Just this week T-Mobile announced there own Android device, the Pulse and this is priced at £176.00 on PAYG. Will Orange use the Tattoo to compete? I do hope so as I think I need an Android device for research purposes and although not as good as the HTC Hero or Samsung Galaxy it will be a good option for me as long as the price is right.
I was unaware up until this announcement that Blackberry owners had gone with out an official desktop client on the Mac, until today. I’m sure this news will please a far few around the globe. Get it here!
Samsung has made available another firmware update for its first Android-powered device – i7500 Galaxy. Although it keeps Android 1.5 Cupcake, firmware version I7500XXII5_VIAII5 will apparently make the phone snappier, more stable, while at the same time ensure the battery lasts longer. In addition, the built-in compass has been improved to better sing along such apps as Google (NSDQ: GOOG) Maps, Sky Maps and Wikitude; and users can now send bitmap MMS. Finally, the screen-unlock has been improved and now the unlock time is just 0.5 seconds.
To update your Galaxy, grab the Samsung’s PC Studio software and follow the steps provided on the screen. Once an update is applied, the Korean giant suggests factory reset…
In Germany the best coverage according to the independent measurements of “connect” magazine is provided by Vodafone network. The cheapest prices are offered by E-Plus operator. Yet iPhone is exclusively sold only by T-Mobile Germany. Similarly in USA only AT&T Wireless is selling iPhone although everybody knows that in USA the best coverage is provided by Verizon Wireless and the cheapest prices are offered by T-Mobile USA. Shortly speaking: operators instead of competing on prices, coverage, transfer speeds, are focusing instead on one strategy for the success only: selling iPhone exclusively. It is bad for all cellphone users. Very bad.
Let’s take another example: Switzerland, where both Swisscom and Orange CH were offering iPhone right from the beginning. In this case such negative effect could not be observed:
Just yesterday I posted about the HTC HD2 is apparently being released on O2 soon. Well, the word on the street (the Internet actually) is that it will also be available on T-Mobile as well.
T-Mobile Touch HD2
As usual with the HTC devices, T-Mobile have changed the name of the device slightly and are calling it the Touch HD2. They just have to make it a bit more confusing!
With only four days until the launch of Windows Mobile 6.5 I am hoping Orange also pick up the HD2 as I am due an upgrade soon and the HD2 specs are pretty hot. I may have to get some bigger hands though to cope with the massive 4.3 inch device!
We have heard numerous blogs and reports today that the HTC HD2 has been published ahead of its launch date by O2.
We therefore went into an O2 shop in Bournemouth this afternoon and can confirm that the HTC HD2 appears in full colour pictures on page 9 of their October catalogue!
Their headline is
“Watch, play and surf in style with the new HTC HD2, featuring the largest screen yet on a mobile”
They promote the HTC HD2 as running windows mobile 6.5 with a 4.3inch WVGA screen and a 5mp camera with twin LED flash.
The blogs go on to mention it offering a 1ghz processor making it one of the fastest devices on the market.
We will have full details on this product on our website on the official launch date which is due to be the 6th October so make sure you visit here on Tuesday
