HTC Touch Diamond extended battery

When we first heard that the HTC Touch Diamond came with only a 900mAh battery we, like many other people, questioned the descision to include such a low capacity battery and wondered if the battery life would suck.

Mind you, I have to say that I’m finding the Touch Diamond battery life to be pretty good and on par with my TyTN II giving me around two days use between charges.

However, when questioned about the battery life at the Diamond launch event HTC themselves commented that there was nothing wrong with the battery life but that there would be an extended battery made available soon!

Something of a mixed message there then.

As it happens though, ‘soon’ is now as eXpansys have the extended battery packs, including raplacement back cover, available for pre-order. The replacement extended battery is 1350mAh so offering a 50% increase over the standard battery.

You can pick up a standard battery from eXpansys for just under £41 and you can pre-order HERE.

You’ll notice that the replacement back maintains the angular design of the original back. Personally, as much as I like the look of the angled back, I’d really like to see someone come up with a replacement plain back. The angled back makes the Diamond wobbley!

O2 taking iPhone 3G orders from 4th July

iphone 3g Just returned from a visit to my local O2 store and had a long chat to the manager of the store. He told me that all O2 stores will be taking orders for the the iPhone 3G from 4th July. This is a fastrack order system so you will actually be able to sign up for service from 4th July select your contract go through the credit checks etc and organise any number porting from this date. On the 11th July you can avoid any in store queues and guarantee that you will get an iPhone 3G on launch day. If you are porting your number this can also be arranged so that it is ported on the 11th when you get your new iPhone 3G so no hanging around. I will be doing this on the 4th July so I will keep you all informed how it goes.

Palm optimistic for future

palm windows mobile Mobile handset giant Palm is putting a positive spin on its $43.4 million loss this quarter. The company credited roughly $20 million of that loss to compensation and restructuring costs as it attempts to shift its business plan to better accommodate the consumer smartphone market. In addition to its own restructuring, Palm faces stiff competition from longtime rival Research In Motion and the growing threat of the Apple iPhone, which launches a 3G model next month.

Long term test – the new Jawbone

jawbone-earwearWhen I was in the states a few weeks ago I picked up the new Jawbone from an At&T store.  A small sleek black unit, with hidden buttons, leather bound ear loop and the killer feature "Noise Assassin" technology.  Well I’ve been using this device for lots of phone calls, from both my BlackBerry pearl and my T-Mobile Touch Plus (HTC Touch Dual) and I’m now ready to talk about using the device on a day to day basis. Form and Function after the break…

Nokia N810 internet tablet unboxed

About a year ago we reviewed the Nokia N800 internet tablet. John was quite impressed with the device but one of the things he felt it was lacking was a QWERTY keyboard.

Howerver, Nokia recently released a new internet tablet, the N810, which includes many enhancements, including a full sliding QWERTY keyboard.

Other enhancements include a faster CPU, newer OS and better software support. On top of that there’s built in GPS and Sat-Nav software which, on that hi res screen, promises to provide a quality navigation solution.
