Acer X960 unboxing video

We reviewed the Acer DX900 a few weeks ago and Steve was reasonably impressed with it, especially with the flexibility offered by the dual-SIM cards. This X960 could well be considered as the DX900 little brother, both having quite similar specification but the X960 only having the single SIM card.

The Acer X960

Once again Acer have come up with a reasonable looking handset. I think it looks similar to the XDA Zest in styling but the Eten design influence is still apparent in my opinion.

No compromises. Acer Tempo X960 has everything you’ve ever dreamt of in a smartphone: GPS, PDA, camera, MP3 player and a widget-based friendly interface for instant access to the web, email and your life online

Who says you need more than one device to organize your life on the go? Meet the Acer Tempo X960. Browse the web, read and reply to emails, socialize online and of course make phone calls: the Acer Tempo X960 was designed for adventure. And with GPS software pre-installed, you’ll always know how to get there.

A high-resolution 2.8-inch VGA touchscreen and five-way navigation button allow easy manoeuvring. The intuitive widget-based user interface provides quick access to all your contacts, emails and messages, browser and bookmarks, calendar and events, date and time, world weather and music player.

HTC Touch Pro2 unboxing video

It doesn’t seem like long ago that I was all excited and telling you about the latest HTC Touch Diamond2 that I’d managed to get my hands on. However this week something else turned up at tracyandmatt towers that I think could be even better! I am of course referring to the eagerly awaited HTC Touch Pro2. I’ve been a fan of the HTC TyTN II for a long time and in fact I still have my original TyTN II and I use it now and then but almost 2 years on it looks and feels a bit old and the Pro2 is the obvious replacement. The Touch Pro just didn’t do it for me!

The HTC Touch Pro2

So here we have the now customary unboxing video. Note that this is the full UK retail model. As we had such great feedback from Piero’s HTC Touch Diamond2 review we’ve passed the handset over to him for review. He’ll be putting it through its paces for about a week to give it a good real-world test so please be patient. However, if you want to make sure that he covers something specific or to ask him any questions while he’s doing it then please email or post comments below.

Sanyo Xacti WH1 unboxing video

If you are a regular reader you’ll know that I’ve reviewed several Sanyo Xacti camcorder models in the past, from the more entry-level HD700 to the most recent of the HD models, the HD2000.  Overall, I think that the Xacti range is really good and I remain impressed with my HD1000 and that is the camera that I use to shoot the majority of my unboxing videos.

The Sanyo Xacti VPC-WH1

The Sanyo Xacti VPC-WH1

Sanyo recently started to expand the Xacti range with some non-pistol grip models as well as adding a number of waterproof models to the range. So this week we are looking at the Xacti VPC-WH1 described as a ‘Waterproof Dual Camera’ and it’s rated to a depth of 3 metres so it’ll be ok for snorkelling or using at the pool on holiday. Even if you don’t plan on using it in the water it’s a great idea to know that you wont ruin your camcorder if you are caught in a sudden down-pour.

You may think that being waterproof you may trade-off quality and features but the WH1 is still quite well spec’ed offering 720p HD recording and still shooting modes. As for the quality of recording, well you’ll have to see what our verdict is when we publish the full review in a week or so! For now, have a look at the unboxing video below to see the WH1 in a little more detail. Oh and if the yellow colour isn’t to your taste, don’t worry it’s also available in silver!

Sanyo Xacti WH1 unboxing video

With SANYO’s advanced waterproofing technology, the SANYO Xacti WH1 can be used without thinking twice in the rain; for water sports such as surfing or snorkeling, or for winter sports such as skiing or snowboarding. This Xacti camera keeps up with active lifestyles.
The SANYO Xacti VPC-WH1 has earned the highest possible IEC 60529 waterproof rating – IPX8 – allowing high definition 1280 x 720, 30 fps footage to be captured without worrying about the effects of water or snow.

O2 XDA Guide unboxing video

XDA Guide is the name O2 have given to the HTC Touch Cruise 09. O2 released the handset a while ago in Europe and have just now released it here in the UK. The O2 XDA Guide or Touch Cruise 09 is a nice looking handset with a decent amount of RAM/ROM and is the first handset to have HTC’s ‘Footprints’ feature.

The new HTC Touch Cruise is the first mobile phone to offer HTC Footprints, an application experience that enables people to permanently chronicle their special moments by capturing a digital postcard on their phone. Once captured, Footprints provides the ability to take notes and an audio clip of that favourite restaurant or special place while identifying its specific geographical location. In addition to identifying each postcard with its specific GPS co-ordinates, Footprints also auto-names each postcard with its general location or area.

The O2 XDA Guide (HTC Touch Cruise 09)

The O2 XDA Guide (HTC Touch Cruise 09)

The nice thing about buying an XDA device with GPS from O2 is that they always provide you with a car mount and in-car charger for the handset so that you can use it as an effective in-car Cat Nav.

The HTC Touch Cruise 09 is exclusive to O2 as the XDA Guide – you can’t even buy it in a SIM-free guise in Europe which is a bit of a shame for non-O2 customers.

Steve is putting together the review of the O2 XDA Guide for us at the moment and he’ll have more to say about the Footprints feature. Have a look at the unboxing video below to get a taste of what the handset has to offer.

LG Cookie (LG KP500) unboxing video

LG seem to be coming up with some popular touchscreen handsets lately and the LG Cookie (LG KP500) follows in the footsteps of the LG Renior that we reviewed a few months ago. The LG Cookie has a similar look to the Renior but is a little smaller and slimmer but retains many of the same styling cues such as the three-button arrangement below the 3" display.

The LG Cookie (LG KP500)

The LG Cookie (LG KP500)

From LG’s experience in producing stylish and sophisticated handsets, the LG KP500 also receives the same attention to the finer details. Slim-profiled and lightweight, the LG KP500 is affordable but not at the expense of style.

As a slim and sophisticated handset, the LG KP500 is a GSM phone which can operate in four frequency bands, giving it a far-reaching reception range. The LG KP500 can also be used in 39 languages right out of the box. But no matter what language one speaks, the vivid and intuitive user interface of the LG KP500 is simple for anyone to understand with vivid icons on the wide 3 inch screen.

So we’ll be reviewing the LG Cookie over the next week or so but leave you with the unboxing video:

Sony P19WN Vaio unboxing video

We’ve looked at a number of ‘netbook’ PC’s in the past and almost all of them have one particular drawback; Small physical dimensions inevitably leads to a small screen which, while fine for casual use, can become a bit of a pain when it comes to web browsing etc.

Sony think they’ve come up with a solution though with the Sony P19WN/Q Vaio, they’ve crammed an 8" 1600×768 TFT display in to a 25 x 12 x 2cm package. The result is a beautiful looking small netbook with an amazing widescreen.

The Sony P19WN/Q Vaio

The Sony P19WN/Q Vaio

So slight and slim, you might not even know its there. About as thin as most cell phones, VAIO P series Lifestyle PC is a cinch to tote. Designed specifically for the ultra-mobile professional, this 8" miniature PC is small enough to fit in a jacket pocket. A lot of miniature PCs out there feature low resolution screens which makes for a sub-par web browsing experience. Basically, a low resolution screen means that you need to scroll side to side to view an entire web page… very annoying and time-consuming, especially when on the go.

I’ve only used the Sony P19WN/Q Vaio briefly as we only had a short-term loan of this review model but I have to say that it really is very impressive! The screen is stunning and overall it performs well. I’m expecting a retail version of the Sony P19WN/Q Vaio to arrive soon and I’ll be reviewing that as soon as I can. For now I’ll leave you with the unboxing video:

HTC Snap unboxing and preview video

We first saw the HTC Snap back at the beginning of April, the announcement probably made a number of Windows Mobile Smartphone (Windows Mobile Standard) fans happy as there seem to have been fairly few Smartphone powered handsets released lately.

The HTC Snap looks a lots like the older HTC S620 but I’m not sure if you can call this an update. In reality the Snap is a whole new phone, new CPU, more RAM and ROM, built in GPS etc. but it does take some design queues from the S620.

The HTC Snap

The HTC Snap

HTC Snap Description

Designed with a set of features selected to deliver everything you need without overwhelming you with things they don’t, the HTC Snap makes it easier than ever to stay in contact with life’s most important people.

Many people find they are overwhelmed by the amount of email they receive. In response to these issues, HTC’s innovative Inner Circle feature allows HTC Snap users to press a dedicated Inner Circle key to bring emails from a preselected group of people to the top of their inbox, enabling important messages to be acted upon immediately.

With a slim, sleek profile designed to fit perfectly in the hand, the HTC Snap measures less than a half-inch thick (12 mm), yet it can deliver up to eight and a half hours of talk time with the standard battery.

Thanks for my friends at devicewire.com I managed to get my hands on this pre-release version of the HTC Snap. The hardware is final but the ROM build is likely to change before launch so bear that in mind when you look at the unboxing and tour video below.

HTC Snap unboxing and preview video

Sadly we were only able to borrow the HTC Snap for 24 hours, not really enough time to get to know the handset so I’ll hold off reviewing until such time as I can get a retail version to play with. I did previously like the HTC S620 so if you are a fan of the Blackberry style fixed QWERTY design then I suspect you’ll enjoy this handset.

The retail version should be available within the next few weeks but you can pre-order the HTC Snap from devicewire.com today!

HTC Snap Specification:

  • Windows Mobile® 6.1 Standard
  • Dimensions: 116.5 X 61.5 X 12.0 mm ( 4.59 X 2.42 X 0.47 inches)
  • Weight: 120 grams (4.23 ounces) with battery

Orange Vegas unboxing video

We’ve mentioned the Orange Vegas a few times on the site already but we managed to get hold of one to review.

The Orange Vegas

The Orange Vegas

Although the Vegas looks a bit like the HTC Touch, and has some obvious design similarities, it is in fact made by ZTE as the ZTE X760 rather than being made by HTC. It’s also not a Windows Mobile handset instead having it’s own custom UI.

Orange claim that the Vegas is the smallest, lightest and cheapest touchscreen handset available, while I agree that the £49 price tag on PAYG probably does make it the cheapest touchscreen, I feel sure that the smallest/lightest prize would go to the Neonode N2.

So the Orange Vegas is designed as an entry level handset, there are no bells and whistles. The lack of WiFi and 3G as well as the poor camera resolution will, perhaps, make the Vegas a no-no for the more sophisticated consumer. However the price point will certainly be a big plus!

We’ll have a review of the Orange Vegas up shortly but in the mean time have a look at the quick unboxing video and handset tour.

Orange Vegas specification:

  • 1.3 megapixel camera
  • MP3 player
  • FM radio
  • Bluetooth® technology
  • internal memory 64MB
  • external memory supports up to 4GB
  • Dual band
  • GPRS
  • Flickr and Facebook apps.

    Sony Ericsson W715 unboxing video

We’re continuing to look at the Walkman and Cybershot phones that Sony Ericsson have to offer and this week we have the Sony Ericsson W715. As the name suggests this is one of Sony Ericsson’s more music-centric Walkman handsets.
