Samsung Wave at MWC

Samsung Wave_GT-S8500_4 Well I am back from Mobile World Congress and the collection of videos I have are either in the process of being edited or else being uploaded to YouTube. There will be plenty of videos for you to have a look at over the next few days along with photos, press releases and other comments from the event in Barcelona.

One of the first things I wanted to see at the show was the Samsung Wave with the new Bada OS.  We’d heard a lot about Bada already so I was keen to go and play with it myself.

So the short video clip below is just a teaser of what’s to come. I do have a longer video uploading where a Samsung rep demos the OS to me and that will be posted later, just as soon as Matt finishes editing and uploading it. There are also tons of other videos of other devices to upload so please be sure to check back frequently!

As you will see I was rather impressed. The screen is amazing!

Windows Mobile 6.5.3 running on Acer

DSCN0794

Acer had a number of demo units out that incorporated Windows Mobile 6.5.3. Well, two. The Neotouch P300 and the Neotouch P400. The P300 has a 3.2” touchscreen, slide out Qwerty keyboard and a paltry 500mhz processor. The P400 has 3.2 HVGA touchscreen, but no mention of processor. Windows Mobile 6.5.3 seemed to run quite well on them however there was no way to see if it got bogged down.P400 picture after the break:

Acer BeTouch E110

DSCN0799 Another little Android device from Acer is the BeTouch E110. This one features a 2.8” touchscreen and a music streaming app called Spinlets that is free to use. There was no mention of what version of Android this runs but it looks like 1.6. The Liquid which was on display also didn’t have 2.1 running but it’s in the post, hopefully the same is in store this this wee fella also.

Samsung Galaxy

DSCN0742

The Samsung Galaxy was a much anticipated Android device and they have gone an revised it with v2.1. It’s got a handsome 800mhz processor and a a longer lasting 1500mha battery. From the display there were two different colours available. The hard buttons have also been given a facelift, a multiplied if memory serves, I think this is one of the first phone revisions I have seen that increases the amount of buttons on the device.

Samsung Chat Wi-fi

DSCN0746 Here is another one for the kids. A simple little messaging device that combines a generously proportioned Qwerty keyboard with a small form factor. This is a low end messaging device and with a 2mp camera integrated, widgets, Wi-fi, FM Radio and Activesync.

Motorola Backflip

DSCN0768

I haven’t quite made my mind up on this one. On the one hand it’s quite different and has a lovely keyboard, on the other it seems a little silly to have the keyboard flip round instead of slideout. The flip is solid and feels oddly natural but it just doesn’t look right when in the more compact position. Motoblur runs quite nicely on this and I’m looking forward to getting one in to spend a little alone time with.

Samsung targeting girls

DSCN0729

Samsung have unleash girl power at Mobile World Congress. Two little devices caught my attention for the girlies out there. The first was the Diva, combining a pearly, feminine look with illegible writing it’s a phone for little girls. The Widgets remain and there seems to have been some developments on these as they are pinker and contain things like a wish list for shopping

DSCN0731

The second girlie phone is the Diva Folder. A very basic phone but it has a neat display on the quilted over. Personally, I hated it. The D-pad was useless whilst they exterior of the phone was quite attractive the innards looked like someone had torn off a prettier interface.

Alcatel’s budget smartphone

DSCN0784

Okay, it’s not quite a smartphone but it will probably be the cheapest alternative on the market. The specs are short and snappy, 2mp camera, Edge (no 3G), Email, Facebook, Twitter and media playback. Comes in two flavours, One Touch Chrome and One touch Carbon, after the break:

Samsung Shark phones

DSCN0739

There were two dumb phones amidst the Samsung’s collective. The Shark and Shark Slider. The Shark Slider reminded me a lot of the older D500’s from some years back. A lot of the manufactures are pushing Smart phones so it is nice to see a more traditional dumb phone amongst the biggies. Sitting with a 3mp camera and FM radio the Shark and Shark slider are handy enough. Some pics after the break:

Samsung Monte

DSCN0725

The Samsung Monte looked like a nice little device. downscaling the features of the phone this Bada device has a 3.2mp camera, 3G, Wi-fi, GPS and a rather attractive design. a real fashion phone that looks to come in at a fetching price tag for all the kids to enjoy. Couple more pics after the break.
