Samsung Wave pre-orderable at Vodafone

screen

A phone demoed that this years Mobile World Congress was the Samsung Wave now available to pre-order from Vodafone. Something of a powerhouse of a phone that was capable of running Need For Space [Insert name of game here] at quite a smooth pace was one thing that caught most people eyes. The other was that it was presented with Samsung’s own operating system, Bada. Likely to be a big seller, the Wave does however feel somewhat indeterminable from several other phones on the market, mostly from Samsung.

Whereas the M001 features 7 inches of LCD viewing space, the M003 is an 8-inch device that also runs Android and pretty much functions like a tablet with WiFi-connectivity. At $240 a piece it’s cheaper than the Apple iPad albeit with a much lower built-in storage, which is readily addressed using SD cards of up to 32GB. htc-mondrian-leaked-from-rom-cab

Those Tinkerers over at XDA-Developers have managed to pull this image that might just be the HTC Mondrian, a rumoured device mentioned in the offical ROM leaked out last week. XDA-Developers have also pieced together specs from an ongoing analysis of the registry and RGU files. So far they’ve spotted references to a 4.3-inch WVGA (480×800) display from Optrex and a 1.3GHz QSD8650A/B Snapdragon from Qualcomm.

More Android Froyo rumours

android22

Word is that Froyo will be 450% faster than the current Android 2.1 system, and according to a source of TechCrunch who provided this screenshot, will also include native USB tethering as well as the ability to turn it into a mobile WiFi hotspot for sharing your mobile internet connection with other devices. Android 2.2 is also expected to come with full Flash support and will finally allow Android users to install apps on the memory card instead of just limiting them to the phone’s memory.

Motorola Motoroi to be upgraded in the UK

motoroi

News has surfaced about the Motoroi release here in the UK. Pocket-lint has apparently gotten confirmation from Motorola that this particular Android handset is indeed coming to the UK, and will come with better features than the Motorola XT701 that was launched in Taipei. Similar to the Motoroi for Korea, the UK-bound model will sport an 8-megapixel camera with Xenon flash, 720p video recording capabilities, but ups the ante with a faster processor, and Android 2.1 as its OS possibly with MotoBLUR.

No specific date was mentioned, but it is expected to be released within the next couple of months. The question at the back of our mind is, due to its delayed release, is anybody still interested in the Motoroi?

Skype will be coming to Windows Phone

skype

There’s a lot of speculation that Skype won’t be going down the portable Microsoft route in the near future. First off the original quote was that they are “not developing software for the new Windows Mobile software due later this year.” However, have a look at the update on Engadget:

Update: Looks like this quote might’ve been taken out of context. MobileTechWorld followed up and learned that while Dan Neary left out Windows Mobile and Windows Phone from a list of currently supported platforms (which makes sense, since one is dying and the other isn’t out yet), he said Windows Phone 7 "is on the roadmap." The question seems to be more of a "when" than an "if" they’ll start building it.

Sounds a little more positive, it seemed massively silly for Skype to not push out something on a platform that is guaranteed to sell a few units.
