Review : ASUS EEE PC 701 XP

image I have had the Asus Eee PC 701 in my hands or should that read hand, for the last few days and to be honest I wasn’t expecting very much from this as I have used quite a few UMPC devices before all running Vista and found the compromises to be too great to be useful and performance very poor.

Well I have to say my opinion has turned full circle after using this little device for a couple of days.

Apple limiting what Apps can use GPS on the new iPhone

Having launched the new iPhone and with the new SDK on the way Apple have added in a couple of clauses to curb what developers can do with the GPS built into the new iPhone.  According to Electronista the agreement states that the GPS cannot be used for real time navigation applications.

Looks like Apple are planning to keep the navigation pie all to themselves.  TomTom are known to be working on an application, so the question is do they have an exclusive agreement?

So, what’s the use of GPS if you can’t get real time data out of it?  I think we’ll see the most innovative GPS aware applications coming from areas outside of navigation.  Some sort of "what are people listening to near me" type of app is going to be a good bet!

QIK for iPhone coming soon

image Qik has a video showing off a demo app for the iPhone, bringing the popular video streaming service to the Apple platform. The iPhone isn’t designed to record video, but Qik has not only made it possible to record, but also stream it to their lifecasting site, where people can watch your handiwork. Much like the video apps from Sling and Flixwagon, Qik appears to be running an unofficial app on a jailbroken iPhone. The demo looks very plain, in terms of UI, but the video streams to the Qik site like any other phone client. Qik expects to get alpha versions of the software out soon.

Apple WWDC Keynote 2008 in 60 Seconds

image Unless you were a bit sad like me and listened to the live audio stream of the full 2 hours of the Steve Jobs keynote on Monday night, you might want to spare 60 seconds to watch this.

Crunchgear have condensed every interesting item in the keynote into this brilliant video for us to enjoy, 2 hours into 60 seconds missing out all the flannel and bull. Wish I had waited for this before torturing myself on Monday.
