One of our readers David Hush has been testing out the just released beta of Point UI Home 2 and has very kindly shared his experiences of this much improved software for Windows Mobile. David has been using it on his HTC Touch HD and these are his thoughts:-
First of all I downloaded the .cab from the Point UI website (www.pointui.com) on my Touch HD using my t-mobile HSDPA connection (it’s only 500k!). Ran the .cab to install, changed my today plugins by deselecting Touch Flo 3D and selected Point UI and WOW! Read on for the full review.
UK communications regulator Ofcom has taken the next steps in its plan to release more radio spectrum to support mobile broadband services. The watchdog has launched a consultation today on proposals that could lead to faster, more reliable wireless broadband services in homes, offices and businesses across the UK. "In particular we are consulting on how we should implement a proposed European Directive and a draft Radio Spectrum Decision that would require the 900MHz and 1800MHz bands to be made available for UMTS (3G) as well as GSM (2G) technologies," said Ofcom in the summary section of its consultation.
Eric Chu of Google has announced what we already knew, “ I’m pleased to announce that Android Market is now accepting priced applications from US and UK developers. Developers from these countries can go to the publisher website at http://market.android.com/publish to upload their application(s) along with end user pricing for the apps. Initially, priced applications will be available to end users in the US starting mid next week. We will add end user support for additional countries in the coming months.

The guys over at PocketPC.ch have got hold of a Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM for the HTC Touch HD and have shared a shed load of high resolution screenshots for our viewing pleasure Gone is the crazy looking big eyed bird thank you and we can now see a new slide to answer / slide to ignore screen, rounded notification and menu boxes and the Market Place and My Phone shortcuts. Looks like the home screen can interact much more with the media player enabling you to control media playback and a few other things. More pictures after the break.

Pocketgear have unleashed a powerful weblink that will take you straight to a simplified version of their site. Once there you can browse through the “2500” games and apps and purchase at your leisure. Unlike the Apple App Store, this will not monitor your downloads and offer you update notification as this is … a weblink.
Not entirely the App Store I had in mind however I guess it has it’s uses until the Marketplace hits later this year. Palm have worked their way down this lane and it must have been success enough for Pocketgear to painstakingly go to the lengths of making an installable weblink in your Programs menu. However, as an incentive you’ll also receive 25% OFF your first download when you enter coupon code MOBILESHOP.
Today, Skyfire have released the 0.9 Beta for Windows Mobile and Symbian. The most noticeable change is a real-time activity wall that aggregates customized feeds from news, media, Facebook and Twitter. It’s preconfigured with feeds from Digg, ESPN, Google News, Hulu, YouTube and Yahoo! News – all displaying real-time updates on the start page. You can easily customize it and add feeds from your favorite websites. Just launch Skyfire, and at a glance you’re connected with fresh content that’s relevant to you.
If you have a Facebook and Twitter account, you can import your news feeds and Twitter streams into Skyfire and easily publish your status to your friends. You can also share and publish any web page to your Facebook and Twitter streams by simply going to the share menu in the Skyfire browser. This means that now you can share any web content from Skyfire either one-to-one via SMS or share one-to-many via your social network.
TeleNav have announced that their TeleNav GPS Navigator software will be available for the T-Mobile G1 on the 24th of February. For those that don’t know this GPS service is a turn by turn solution with speech recognition but it is a subscription based service with a monthly cost and only available in the U.S. although there is a 30 day free trial available. Still no mention of an iPhone version but another step in the right direction for the Android platform. A few more details after the break and a video of it in action thanks to Android Community.
