HTC Desire review

HTC Desire review Ever since I first saw the HTC Desire, a week before MWC, I’ve been thinking that it could well be the handset that I’d use on a daily basis. Indeed there has been some discussion here at tracyandmatt about who will be doing the review. However, as I was the one to review the Nexus One I’ve pulled rank and it’ll be mine to review!

I’m sure that many will look at the HTC Desire and think of it as being simply HTC’s own version of the Google Nexus One and I guess in some respects that could be a fair assessment but is it as simple as that? There are a few differences under the hood and plenty within the user interface that make the HTC Desire look and feel quite different. We’ll talk about those differences as we go but probably the main differences are the optical trackpad and buttons on the Desire where the Nexus One has a trackball, single mic on the Desire vs the dual noise-cancelling mics on the Nexus One and finally HTC’s own sense UI on the Desire where there is a more ‘vanilla’ Android experience on the Nexus One.

So does the HTC Desire meet expectations? Read on to find out… (a word of caution, there are a LOT of images but you can click on any one for a full-sized view.)

HTC Desire demo video

Desire-Brown_Front Back Left I’m in to my second full day of use with the HTC Desire and I have to say that I am really enjoying it. We just have a few more days to play with it before it has to go back off to HTC ready to go out to the next reviewer.

Yesterday I posted on Twitter and asked for your questions regarding the HTC Desire and lots have you have given me some work to do! I’ve decided to record another video of the HTC Desire in use where I can answer a few of those questions and also look at some of the apps in use as well as pointing out one or two of the problems that I’ve been having.

It’s another 20 minute video for you so sit back and enjoy!

Memory Booster Demo Video

bbmb If you are like me and use your BlackBerry a hell of a lot you may notice on occasions it slowing down. This is caused by the devices internal memory being used up.

With a lot of applications installed on the device and with the BlackBerry not having a huge memory this can be a common problem.

I have been using an application called Memory Booster for about a month and as you will see in the video below its a rather good way of keeping the BlackBerry running as efficiently as possible.

There are several apps that do the same sort of job as Memory Booster so I’m not endorsing this one, it’s just that this is the one I like. Demo video after the jump.

HTC Desire unboxing video

desiregrab Well to be honest the title of the post may not be doing justice to the video, it’s a bit more than just an unboxing video!

I’ve been waiting patiently to get my hands on the HTC Desire since I saw it just before its launch at MWC last month. I previously had the Goolge Nexus One which I loved but the HTC Desire seemed to want to take Android to a whole new level with the customisation and Sense UI that HTC added on to it.

The HTC Desire is the second of the four handsets announced by HTC at MWC to actually go on sale. The Desire not far behind it’s smaller brother, the HTC Legend.

There is perhaps a lot of hype around the HTC Desire so I’m sure we are all hoping that it will live up to our expectations. I’m going to spend the next week using the HTC Desire as my main phone and I will be putting together the full review along the way.

For now have a look at my rather lengthy introduction to the HTC Desire in the video below. Hopefully I’ve covered enough in there to whet your appetite for more so please do make use of the forum to post your comments or questions and let me know what you would like me to cover in more detail.

Samsung B3410 review

samsung-b3410 Here we have the Samsung B3410 or Delphi as it is otherwise known. This is a very different attempt at mobile phone technology from Samsung as they have chosen to join in with other manufacturers such as Nokia by integrating a full slide out QWERTY keyboard for ease of use; Samsung as a company have been manufacturing mobile phones for many years now and every year have impressed us more and more with their unique looks and little quirks that make Samsung mobiles so intriguing on the eye.

Does the all new approach by Samsung appeal to you? And will it live up to expectation? Let’s find out…

Acer neoTouch P300 unboxing video

P300 Acer seem to be releasing new handsets at a rate of one every three to four weeks. Here we have the latest handset from Acer, the neoTouch P300 which follows on form the E101 and E200 that we reviewed last month.

The P300 is a Windows Mobile 6.5.3 handset with a sliding QWERTY keyboard. There don’t seem to be many Windows Mobile handsets being released at the moment, perhaps some manufacturers holding back after the Windows Phone 7 Series announcement last month at MWC. Acer don’t seem to be holding anything back though as this is the third such handset to be released this year.

The P300 that we have here is a pre-release model. It’s final hardware and ROM but, as you’ll realise when you see the video below, it’s not final retail packaging. You can pre-order the P300 from Clove Technology and we have them to thank for managing to get their hands on the device so early and helping us get the exclusive on the unboxing.

We’ve only got the neoTouch P300 for a day so we wont be writing the full review just yet. I’ve tried to go in to a little more detail in the video below but we’ll have full review for you once the retail version becomes available.

INQ 3G Chat review

INQ 3G Chat review INQ have identified a gap in the market for a low-cost handset that focuses on core functionality without trying too hard to be a jack of all trades.  The INQ Chat 3G is the filler for that gap.

Accidentally dialling ‘999’ when a mobile phone is in your pocket is not what I had in mind when taking the Chat 3G for a spin but thankfully this little incident doesn’t detract from what has turned out to be an interesting addition to the world of social mobile.  More about that later though.

From the box through to the instruction cards and the phone itself, everything looks to be geared towards the youth market with it’s bright colours and comic/Manga imagery.  Whilst it’s never going to compete with touch screen smartphones in terms of sheer ability, underneath all the gloss is a capable device that comes pre-loaded with fully integrated social networking applications for the likes of Facebook, twitter, Skype and MSN Messenger.

My review unit came with a 3 PAYG SIM giving free Skype-to-Skype calls and Windows Live Messenger usage.

Acer beTouch E101 Review

e101 Announced back in October last year the Acer beTouch E101 is one of those handsets which I’m not really sure where it sits compared to the competition. It’s clearly a smartphone as it’s running Windows Mobile 6.5 however it seems to be lacking a few features which you would come to expect with any smartphone these days.

I will be basing this review on the fact that the beTouch E101 is a budget handset so will not be comparing it to the high end Windows Phones out there at the moment. At only £176.25 the beTouch E101 certainly has an attractive price tag but the question is, do we think it is worth the money and will users gets frustrated at the lack of high end features?

Read on to find out!
